SCHONWALD – Dark & Warm Italian Waves in Belgium…

Italian waves…

Artist: Schonwald
Who: dark/cold wave duo Luca Bandini (guitar) and Alessandra Gismondi (vox and bass)
Sounds: Schonwald is all about atmospheres, hypnotic minimalist mood and a noise inclination with echoes of Suicide, New Order, The Cure, mingling with synth melodies straight from the 80’s – they released two albums so far ‘Amplified Nature’ (2009) and ‘Dream for the Fall’ (2014) – they’re music is inspired by the unique atmosphere of their hometown, Ravenna, from its swamps and lagoons, from the mist which often veil the surface of the water…
‘Shout Out’ tracks:

Released on a compilation album ‘Deep’ on Daft Records last month.

The single from their second album ‘Dream For The Fall’.

How was it for me: Schonwald played in my fav club ‘Café Video’ yesterday (May 18) in my hometown Ghent (Belgium) – I’ve never heard about the Italian duo before and I’m not completely familiar with the cold/dark wave genre but what I heard on their SoundCloud page attracted me to go out and try them – I’m a sucker for discovering new stuff that surprises me on the spot and makes my day/night – Schonwald definitely did the trick – their performance started with black colored, slow-moving soundscapes, intense trance like ‘Alessandro’ vocals and panoramic wailing ‘Luca’ guitar lines – midway the concert the tempo and volume went up – the songs were more colored and irresistible dance beats were added – a ‘warm’ atmosphere started to fill the room and we all moved/danced to the fuelled up melodies and the now almost euphoric ‘Alessandro’ guitar vibes – this upbeat mind-pleasing reversal got us all in a beatific mood and their wayward cover of The Cure’s ‘A Forest’ ended a beautifully dark-colored night – grazie, Schonwald !…

More ‘Schonwald’ here on Bandcamp…

Beautifully dark & warm colored vibes…
