VANT – God Save The Queen – Anno 2015…

shoutout

Band: VANT

Who/home: London-based (coming from Sunderland) four-piece with an outspoken mission – they want to use the rock medium to discuss and speak out about issues that really matter in live !

Track: THE ANSWER – brand new single…

Score: Frontman Mattie Vant launches a new crystal clear attack on living in the UK right now. The poison is definitely the English media and the UK’s global, US colored, politics. “You’re from England? Well hello there, my brother. Keep sucking my dick, while my friend fucks your mother…” The new single is a blatant barbed wire point of view on the present status of good old proud Britannia. ‘God Save The Queen‘ all over again – nothing has changed obviously ! ‘The Answer‘ is also musically the band’s best masterstroke so far. A crushing garage rock rush with a brilliant intro as a herald for the vitriolic outburst to come ! Essential stuff…

THE PRODIGY ! Tons of Testosterone in Germany…

TrackDay1

Essex punk rave veterans The Prodigy are back. New album ‘The Day Is My Enemy’,
their sixth studio LP, is another steamroller packed with mammoth tunes and dynamite grooves. Reasons enough for Liam Howlett & His Gang to be omnipresent at the European Festivals. Last month they bombed Germany (Rock am Ring Festival). Put on your safety helmet and start your private pogo. Here’s the devastating title track from the new record. Tons of Testosterone coming your way…

EDITORS ! Brilliant Gloomy Debut Album is 10…

Editorsback room-800

Editors, the Birmingham rockers, released their stunning debut album ‘The Back Room‘ 10 years ago today – July 25, 2005 – to my ears by far their best work and still a fascinating record, from start to finish, to experience today – we all know that strange feeling of getting rid of our demons by listening to sad music and feeling good afterwards – absorbing ‘The Back Room’ does the trick perfectly – the band deals with Death, Disease and Hopelessness but strangely enough the overall captivating & melodramatic sonic tone of the songs radiate Optimism – also their concerts back then were just ecstatic – after this breakthrough Tom Smith & band decided to go for stadium success (and succeeded with flair – respect !) but I’m sticking to their brilliant firstborn – here’s
‘All Sparks’, one of the outstanding highlights…

ELEFANT – Poignant Post Punk Exorcism…

shout

24 July 2015

Elefanten2-800

Band: ELEFANT

Who/home: a blasting supergroup quartet with members from four different
Belgium bands formed at the end of last year to ventilate their true demons…

Track: A BRIEF HISTORY

Score: this intriguing track made me go and see wackos Elefant for the very first time in my hometown Ghent, Belgium. My guess is that their white suits are stolen from former chemical Chernobyl scientists, especially since they even look like those deadly pale scientists with the white ‘deadly pale’ powder of their wifes on their faces.

Once they kicked off the gig you almost forgot immediately about their nuclear power plant look – their post-punk havoc interwoven with dark krautrock patterns take you by the throat from hit one – sledgehammer blows on the drums, freakish guitar chords, stomping bass drones, tortured keyboards and from time to time aggressive vocals, often in Kraftwerk language, on top of the barbed wire beats – partly instrumental, partly with clamorous belches – I hope they will transfer their musical exorcism on record soon – experience the demonic stuff right here…

EXPERT ALTERATIONS ! Stripped Pop Punk Glory…

Black - kopie-800

Artist: EXPERT ALTERATIONS
Who/home: vivid indie pop punk trio from Baltimore, Maryland – Alan Everhart (drums), Patrick Teal (guitar, deadpan vocals) and Paul Krolian (bass)…
Track: VENETIAN BLINDS – opener from their thrilling self-titled EP released on 12″ via Slumberland Records
Score: 1.28 minutes of ‘less is more’ pop punk glory – this young trio creates pure lo-fi brightness – no special effects, no overflowing sounds nor sensational bombast – palpitating jingle jangle build around a catching melody – lively stuff as we like it !…

Track Of The Day In Memory Of ROB COLLINS…

TrackDay1

23 July 2015

RobCollins-800

Robert “Rob” James Collins died in a car crash on 22 July 1996, aged only 29, after he had been recording keyboard parts for The Charlatans 5th album ‘Tellin’ Stories’ at a studio in Wales. That’s how we, music fans, know Rob Collins. As the organist of The Charlatans creating that brilliant catching sound that became most essential and characteristic for the West Midlands band. Every time I hear their smash hit (1990) ‘The Only One I Know‘ I hear that delightsome and andrenalin fueled organ, every time I hear that organ I hear Rob Collins. Rest in peace…

Flaming Firework From Leeds With ‘THE CONTRAVENES’…

shoutout

Band: THE CONTRAVENES

Who/home: four new hungry rockers from Leeds (UK) – Denny Parker (rhythm guitar, vocals), Craig Swallow (bass), Simon Shillito (drums), Shaun Swallow (lead guitar)

Track: LOADED GUN

Score: 27 seconds in and the ominous vocals of frontman Denny Parker hijack the song and will dynamite it with the smoking hot complicity of unleashed guitars and a bashing rhythm section – midway the tempo goes down to reload for a second punk rock speed attack and a thunderous finale – towering slam !…
