GIRL BAND ! Louder Than War…

30 September, 2015

TrackOFday-800 - kopie

GIRL BAND are four stunning noisemakers from Dublin, Ireland. Already much praised by the critics after they catapulted a couple of wicked EP’s earlier on and played many astounding gigs. They produce massive distorted post punk drones. Deconstructed steel ‘songs’. Hypnotic thunder. And incredibly exciting too as you wonder all the time when they are going to crash. I saw them performing in my hometown last year without knowing what to expect (they supported FAT WHITE FAMILY). I still remember I didn’t close my mouth during the show. Spectacular louder-than-war havoc and I can’t wait to see them again next month in Brussels.
Just last week they released their debut album ‘Holding Hands With Jamie’.
Concrete thwacks. Monotonous rants. Ear-splitting madness. PERFECT !
‘Pears For Launch’ is one of my favorite out-of-control tracks. It has all the aforementioned ingredients. Test your ears and scare your whole village…

ROME IS NOT A TOWN! Spectacular Buzz In Belgium…

ROME IS NOT A TOWN – Café Video, Ghent, Belgium – September 28, 2015

BAND: ROME IS NOT A TOWN (guitarist Susanna Brandin – also a member of HUNT – told me that the first name they came up with was ‘Rome’, but after some beers it was decided that Rome is a city, not a town)

WHO: 4 charming ‘indie ‘looking girls from Sweden until they take the stage and their unleashed demons rock your socks off – members: Caroline Kabat (Drums), Susanna Brandin (guitar, vocals), Kajs A Poidnak (main vocals, guitar) and Emma Wättring (bass, vocals)

SOUND: muscled noise rock slams delivered with heavy, barbed wire panache – an avalanche of burning riffs, electrifying hooks, towering drums and a times mighty hypnotic jams – on top of it frontgirl A Poidnak’s powerful & passionate voice manages to challenge the gloriously fiery post punk noise level with touching success – and they have plenty of splendid songs on their setlist – about time to experience their force, here’s brand new single ‘Stupid‘…

CROCODILES ! Live in Brussels – Popsychedelic Whirlwind…

25 September, 2015…

CROCODILES – Botanique Club, Brussels – September 24, 2015

Rowell & Welchez – A capella soundcheck…

Finally ! For different reasons I had to miss these swirling American psych pop/rockers’ previous gigs in Belgium. So this is my first Crocodiles live experience. I love these noisemakers from New York-via-San Diego. Core members Brandon Welchez and Charles Rowell released their fifth studio album, titled ‘Boys‘, last May. They tour as a quartet – more is louder – and are now in the middle of their European promo tour. Yesterday they came to bomb Brussels with their psychedelic big-pop-beat strokes. With
tons of distorted guitars and squeaky feedback they roar through a ‘greatest hits‘ set.
The only time they actually slow down is to sing, with vocal help from an enthusiastic crowd, ‘happy birthday‘ for their rousing drummer.

The show is actually one long & loud hypnotic journey. Every spectator is moving one or more body part(s). Guitarist Rowell hits his guitar strings while making shaking Elvis hip moves and Welchez‘s voice fights continuously with the towering mix. Perfect ! Ending the stirring concert with that punky 70s ‘Ca Plane Pour Moi‘ pop hit from Belgian’s one-hit-wonder Plastic Bertrand (released by the band as B-side of one of their singles from the third album as Brandon Welchez told me afterwards – must find that single !) assisted by the amazing girls of support act PINS was just brilliant. As I said this was my first Crocodiles live treatment. I want more…
