THE POGUES Released ‘HELL’S DITCH’ Album 25 Years Ago…

6 November 2015

25 years ago today folk-punk rockers The Pogues released their fifth album. The last to feature brilliant legendary frontman/songwriter Shane MacGowan. An underrated record of vintage Pogues brilliance. The album was produced by The Clash’s Joe Strummer who would replace MacGowan afterward for some live shows. Hell’s Ditch will always be in the shadow of previous masterpieces Rum, Sodomy & The Lash (1985) and If I Should Fall From Grace With God (1988) but contains enough pearls to embrace this body of work. Also, MacGowan’s fascination with Asian and Latin themes resulted in one of the best songs he ever wrote: ‘Summer in Siam’. An immensely enchanting ballad. A glittering diamond. Let’s go back to this charming beauty…
