EL VY – ‘No Time To Crank The Sun’ – Melancholic Beauty…

EL VY is the new band formed by Matt Berninger (The National) and Brent Knopf (Menomena). Last month they released their critically praised debut album ‘Return To The Moon’. And now they shared a new video for ‘No Time To Crank The Sun’, one of
the highlights of the record. A love ballad turned into melancholic beauty like only Berninger‘s voice can. Here’s the ‘fast forward’ clip directed by Tom Berninger, Matt’s brother, who also directed The National documentary Mistaken For Strangers

THE SURRENDERS ! Budding Blues Rock Debut…

Who/Home: passionate, 60s influenced youngsters based in Birmingham, UK
Members: Connor Brooks (lead Vocals/harmonica), Richard Jones (lead guitar/backing vocals), James Williams (bass guitar) and Scott Flavell (percussion/drums & backing vocals)
Track: THE SUN SONG – first track of forthcoming debut EP
Score: this fresh, unsigned gang is busy to accomplish all the steps of their master plan – first, before even playing one note, they stole every single record from their parents’ collection – then they locked themselves up with their unbeatable vinyl catch in a quarantine for a couple of months – only recently they came out of the box with an unstoppable desire to produce steamy blues rock after listening on repeat to Cream, Jimi Hendrix, Led Zeppelin and all of the other blues motherrockers of that golden decade called the sixties – ‘Sun Song‘ is the first slice of music they really want to play – it’s a rough diamond, an unpolished blues cut driven by intense vocals and instrumental electricity – all wrapped up and delivered with a psychedelic swagger – you can almost touch the mighty potential – it’s clear that this confident rascals are on their way to create thrilling sonic kicks… as written in their master plan !

THE CORAL Getting Ready For The Real Comeback…

24 November 2015

Some cool news in these troubled times. The psychedelic Liverpool pop rockers The Coral will return early next year with a new album and a UK tour (followed by Europe, I hope). Distance Inbetween will be released on March 4 and is their 8th full body of work. All details here. It’s their first since the excellent 2010 Butterfly House album and last year’s ‘lost album’ The Curse Of Love. Here’s a trailer for the new LP…

Frontman James Skelly on the new one: “Before we started making the album we had discussed that we wanted it to be more minimal and rhythmical. We thought ‘if you’ve got a rhythm section that’s been playing together for almost twenty years, why not make that the centre of the songs?’” The album is dedicated to Alan Wills, the band’s early mentor and Deltasonic label boss who died in 2014.
