You Ain’t Seen Nothing Yet… Here’s ELEFANT!

They look mental, they sound mental, they ARE mental!
4 Metallic Phrenetics conceived by vicious punk aliens,
dropped somewhere in a creepy basement in Belgium
They just want to poison this whole messy planet
starting with you! Yes, you’re the first on their list…
They’re after your brains, your bones, your viscera,
your beloved pets and anything else they can stuff
in their propaganda video’s! Get ready, but don’t
go to your cellar after you’ve seen all this…

Oh my God… they’re already in the house…

From Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. Here’s BASEMENT REVOLVER…

Ineffable vocal luster bathing in a scorching wall-of-psych-sound. Think Sundays girl Harriet Wheeler fronting ear-splitting noisemakers My Bloody Valentine. Like daylight turning into darkness with a blistering intensity. LAKE, STEEL, OIL will blow your mind in slow motion…

To Hell With Blue Mondays. Here’s… SUEDE

Trash by SUEDE

Veteran glam rockers SUEDE have tons of firing tunes to blow blue Mondays forever into space. All together now… we’re TRAAAASHHH

Maybe maybe it’s the clothes we wear
The tasteless bracelets and the dye in our hair
Maybe it’s our kookiness
Or maybe maybe it’s our nowhere towns
Our nothing places and our cellophane sounds
Maybe it’s our looseness
But we’re trash you and me
We’re the litter on the breeze
We’re the lovers on the streets
Just trash me and you
It’s in everything we do
It’s in everything we do
Maybe maybe it’s the things we say,
The words we’ve heard and the music we play,
Maybe it’s our cheapness,
Or maybe, maybe it’s the times we’ve had,
The lazy days and the crazes and the fads,
Maybe it’s our sweetness,
But we’re trash, you and me,
We’re the litter on the breeze,
We’re the lovers on the street,
Just trash, me and you,
It’s in everything we do,
It’s in everything we do

KASABIAN – Breakthrough Album EMPIRE is 10 Today…

EMPIRE by KASABIAN – Released 28 August 2006

I just loved the dance rock craziness of Leicester gang KASABIAN from day one. A natural born live band setting stages on fire around the globe. Masterful entertainers with a damn cool ‘we do what we like’ attitude and an irresistible swagger. Their second album EMPIRE was released 10 years ago and confirmed their huge potential to the whole wide world.
An album to start and end all real rock ‘n’ roll parties. A hurricane of killer drones to go bonkers to in stadiums. A huge celebration of mastermind Sergio Pizzorno‘s adrenalin fueled songwriting qualities and frontman Tom Meighan‘s charismatic force. Now, let’s dance. Here’s the awesome title track Empire, released back then as smashing lead single…

I know we’re in the middle of a heat wave
but let’s go berserk with the birthday album in full…

RYKER – Swinging Soul Pop Music For A Heatwave…

Cyclone by RYKER

Wow! What a crushing heat wave week in Belgium, actually all over Europe. I guess we all need a beat to handle the heat. Sheffield artist RYKER has the perfect vibe to do the trick. Soulful, swinging, sensual and sweaty. Her debut pop vibration CYCLONE feels like a sexy ice-cube. Fresh and seducing. Perfect sixties drive to stomp your feet gallantly to, to move your head graciously to, to sway your whole body stylish to… and still holding a firm grip on your exotic cocktail!…

PETER HOOK & THE LIGHT – A Blue Tuesday in Belgium…

PETER HOOK & THE LIGHT / W-Festival Wortegem-Petegem, Belgium / 23 August 2016

When PETER HOOK – original bass player of JOY DIVISION and NEW ORDER – started a solo project some years ago, not to create new music but to play the (old) records of both bands he was part of, I was utterly suspicious. Why do that? For the money? As a vivid fan of Joy and Order I was persuaded that no member, whoever, could recreate solo the music the right way. But when I came across some live footage of gigs Hook played with his band THE LIGHT (including his son) on YouTube I just loved it from the first second. Why? Here’s why…

… yes, pretty awesome, isn’t it? It made me realise again that he was after all a major force in the development of Joy Division‘s unique sound. Nobody played the bass as he did when that stellar Manchester gang started to make some brilliant noise as Warsaw back in 1976 and later on, after the sad death of Ian Curtis, with New Order. Also he was/is the coolest cat of both bands. Therefore seeing & hearing the man play in the flesh last Tuesday was damn special. I saw him performing before with NO several times, but this was different, this was the only rocker of those legendary bands doing impressive stuff with his bass in the middle of the stage now. And, yes, he did justice to any Joy/Order song just perfectly. This amateur clip (thanks to Numaoid65) of Isolation will give you an idea of the vibe last Tuesday…

The show was almost perfect (even without a real drummer who missed his flight to the festival). From ‘Your Silent Face’ to ‘She’s Lost Control’. Why not plain perfect? Well, he didn’t play LOVE WILL TEAR US APART. I was really hoping for it. Damn you, Hooky. Even worse,
I just learned he initially planned to perform the gloomy cracker but cancelled it at the last minute for unknown reasons/pleasures. How do I know? Here’s the set list as showed on the band’s Facebook page after the concert…

But, hey, no worries, long live the internet. Here’s a beautiful cathedral choir version of that timeless classic..

ANGEL OLSEN – Moody Splendor With New Track ‘SISTER’…

‘Sister’ by ANGEL OLSEN

The wonderful American singer-songwriter ANGEL OLSEN will release her third album
MY WOMAN next week, 2nd September. But before that she shared now ‘SISTER’. The
3rd track/video from that new LP. A gripping pearl with Olsen‘s distinctive, vulnerable
voice aiming at your heart and soul. Like a female Roy Orbison. Moody splendor. Here’s
the clip directed by herself…

HEAVEN 17 – Red-Hot Dance Party On A Red-Hot Day in Belgium…

HEAVEN 17 / W-Festival in Wortegem-Petegem, Belgium / 23 August 2016

HEAVEN 17, the Sheffield electro pop pioneers played a gloriously stirring set, yesterday,
at the very first edition of an electronic/new wave festival in Wortegem-Petegem. A small, green village part of one of the most beautiful regions in Flanders, Belgium. The band was formed in 1980 by synths junkies Martyn Ware and Ian Craig Marsh (former members of the equally magnificent THE HUMAN LEAGUE) and vocalist/frontman Glenn Gregory. Their 1981 debut album PENTHOUSE AND PAVEMENT is a spectacular electro pop classic. A bona fide party soundtrack with a lyrical outspokenness. An enriching drug for body and soul. A liberating dance opus without an expiring date…

Without Marsh but accompanied by extra key board player Berenice Scott and two brilliant female backing singers Gregory and Ware scored the most swirling, the most uplifting and hottest set of this new, cool festival on a bloody red-hot day. Here is a glimpse of their rad swinging boys/girls performance…

And if you never heard of HEAVEN 17 before, this is the one that will convert you in just 4.25 minutes. Get those dusty-sexy-glittering-dancing shoes out of your closet, open all doors and windows, alert the whole neighbourhood and go mental in the street…
