The Legendary THE SLITS Heard MARVIN GAYE Through The Grapevine…

‘I Heard It Through The Grapevine’ by THE SLITS

In honor of two unforgettable artists, each brilliant in their own way. MARVIN GAYE,
soul genius and phenomenal voice & German-born ARI UP (real name: Ariane Forster), gloriously outspoken & eccentric frontwoman/co-founder (at the age of 14!) of unique female punk crackerjacks THE SLITS. Marvin Gaye (real name: Marvin Pentz Gay, Jr.) was killed, only 45, by his own father on April 1, 1984. Cancer defeated Ari Up. She died, only 48, on October 20, 2010. Rest in peace, legends. I HEARD IT ON THE GRAPEVINE was actually written by Norman Whitfield and Barrett Strong for Motown Records in 1966,
but it was Gaye‘s version that turned the immortal diamond into a global hit two years later. The Slits recorded the song for their fabulous 1979 debut album CUT. Their funky punky reggae trademark interpretation still sounds catchy as hell. Frolic dancing is allowed…
