‘Leopard Skin Pillbox Hat’ by BECK – original by BOB DYLAN
Fans of fresh Nobel Prize winner BOB DYLAN who saw the man perform live, more than once, know the lifelong troubadour loves to play his songs differently when he’s on stage. Slower, faster, in another key or pace. I must admit I even experienced a couple of times that I recognized a song only by the lyrics. The 75-year-old legend never liked to do the same thing over and over again. Funnily enough BECK treated Dylan‘s LEOPARD SKIN PILLBOX HAT with that idea in mind, some years ago. The fantastic L.A. artist didn’t change the chord progressions and melody as such but fueled the song with a mighty dynamic drone in a way the heartbeat of this rollin’ blues track got more blustery, more forceful and heavier overall. Yes, almost unrecognizable. I still prefer the original but
this is a blazing rendition. Here’s the heat… .
BECK covered the song for HEROES a compilation album with various famous artists
(Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Elbow, Franz Ferdinand and many more) in 2009, in aid of WARCHILD.
A non-governmental organisation founded in the United Kingdom in 1993 which provides all sorts of assistance to children in areas experiencing life threatening conflicts.
The original version of Leopard Skin Pillbox Hat is on Dylan‘s magnificent
