To Hell With Blue Mondays – Here Are… TABLE SCRAPS

Weekly firework to splinter Blue Mondays into a thousand pieces…

mondaybluesremedy

From Birmingham, UK. Here are… TABLE SCRAPS

tablescrapstrio

Twisted three-piece with the perfect sledgehammer to smash up your bloody Blue Monday. Noisy outlaws producing some fucked up garage frenzy. Like Mötorhead on tons of speed, produced by Steve Albini after listening for 24 hours to The Damned‘s debut album played LOUDER THAN WAR! Deranged vocals, vicious adrenalin and a mean punk attitude. Score!

Electricity is on their explosive 2015 album ‘More Time For Strangers’

THE KILLS Doing It To Death in AMSTERDAM…

THE KILLS – Paradiso, Amsterdam – 21 October 2016

p1120497

Alison Mosshart and Jamie Hince are back after five years. Still keeping on their mean side. Hard to describe the intense energy and the crushing dynamic they developed last Friday in the legendary Paradiso club in the centre of the tremendous city of Amsterdam, in The Netherlands. My most beloved venue – a converted former church building from the 19th century – where I saw so many great concerts over the past twenty years. A truly perfect location for the heated garage blues of THE KILLS. Perfect for Alison‘s staggering voice – really outstanding tonight – and her sensual snake moves. Perfect for Jamie‘s cracking guitar firework and his little dancy footsteps in the middle of the stage. And they clearly both loved it as much as the ecstatic crowd did. One of the most vibrant and hypnotizing gigs I witnessed all year. As I said it’s hard to reproduce the overwhelming magic of their performance with words. I’ll try with some pics & some live footage found on YouTube

AMY WINEHOUSE – ‘Rehab’ Single Released 10 Years Ago…

Back

‘Rehab’ by AMY WINEHOUSE
Released 23 October 2006

amyreahb

The song that made her immensely famous
The song that emphasized her superb voice
The song even non Amy Winehouse fans liked
The song that told so much about her problems
The song that attracted even more greedy sharks
The song that should haunt her father forever…

They tried to make me go to rehab
I said, no, no, no
Yes, I been black
But when I come back, you’ll know, know, know
I ain’t got the time
And if my daddy thinks I’m fine
He’s tried to make me go to rehab
I won’t go, go, go

I’d rather be at home with a Ray
I ain’t got seventy days
‘Cause there’s nothing, there’s nothing you can teach me
That I can’t learn from Mr. Hathaway

I didn’t get a lot in class
But I know we don’t come in a shot glass

They tried to make me go to rehab
I said, “no, no, no”
Yes, I been black
But when I come back, you’ll know, know, know
I ain’t got the time
And if my daddy thinks I’m fine
He’s tried to make me go to rehab
I won’t go, go, go

The man said, “why do you think you here?
I said, I got no idea.
I’m gonna, I’m gonna lose my baby
So I always keep a bottle near
He said, I just think you’re depressed
This, me, yeah, baby, and the rest

They tried to make me go to rehab
But I said, no, no, no
Yes, I been black
But when I come back, you’ll know, know, know

I don’t ever want to drink again
I just, oh, I just need a friend
I’m not gonna spend ten weeks
Have everyone think I’m on the mend

And it’s not just my pride
It’s just till these tears have dried

They tried to make me go to rehab
I said, no, no, no
Yes, I been black
But when I come back, you’ll know, know, know
I ain’t got the time
And if my daddy thinks I’m fine
He’s tried to make me go to rehab
I won’t go, go, go

THE HIVES – Your New Favourite Band Is 15…

Looking and listening back at memorable moments in sonic history…

bACK INTIME

‘Your New Favourite Band’ by THE HIVES

hives

Swedish punk tornado THE HIVES released YOUR NEW FAVORITE BAND on 22 October 2001 – fifteen years ago. A compilation album with four tracks from earlier LP’s (1997’s Barely Legal and 2000’s Veni Vidi Vicious) and four bombs from their EPs. A red-hot punk rock collection that finally put the band on the world map. From there on the rousing gang, led by PELLE – their madly hyperkinetic frontman – set fire to stages all around the globe. One of the best live bands I ever witnessed (and I’ve seen many). They were born to set stages on fire. Loud, spectacular, fast & funny and with a gigantic smile on their sweaty faces. 150% Rock and Roll Entertainment! Explosive opening track ‘Hate To Say I Told You
So’
(single released in 2000 and re-released in 2002) says it all. Here’s a smoking dynamite live version. Hell yeeeeeaaaaaah…

ROD STEWART & JOHN PEEL 45 Years Ago…

Looking and listening back at memorable moments in sonic history…

backtime-old

‘Maggie May’ by ROD STEWART

magiemay

Forty-five years ago – 22 October 1971 – Scottish rocker/singer-songwriter/playboy ROD STEWART had the number one spot on the British singles with MAGGIE MAY one of his biggest hits ever. Two weeks before he was on the fabulous BBC show Top Of The Pops.
A special performance for three reasons. One: his former band mates The Faces joined him for the occasion. Two: John Peel, the late, legendary English DJ also accompanied – on mandolin – Rod the Mod. Three: Ronnie Wood played some football at the end of the song. Here’s the fun…

On his third solo album … Every Picture Tells A Story

Superb noise and other related havoc that makes me scream, real loud…

‘The Realm’ by ELEFANT

dsc06549

The four horsemen of the Apocalypse are back in town and ready to mess up your Halloween party with a real spooky horror pumpkin. Don’t open the door, lock up your children & rabbits and pray to the devil that Donald Trump isn’t one of them. But most
of all stay completely calm and call – NOW! – the CIA, FBI, Robert de Niro and your pizza dealer because those ELEFANT creeps won’t go away just like that. They are determined
to destroy THE REALM of all normal people. They are deadly serious about their mission
as you will see in this new dramatic video secretly filmed – as I was told by my dear friend Pussy Riot (a former, vodka hooked, female KGB babe) – in the post-Brexit Empire. You’ll see, the Brits‘ future is doomed and so will be yours if you don’t buy the freaks‘ bloody records!

Warming Up My Brains To See… THE KILLS

TrackDay1

Already 12 years, in 2004 (I looked it up in my personal concert history book as my memory fails now and then) since I saw THE KILLS make some twisted noise for the
first (and only time so far), playing at the Pukkelpop Festival in Belgium. They released
their blazing debut album ‘Keep On Your Mean Side‘ the year before. Alison ‘VV’ Mosshart
was really skinny and hid her face, all the time, behind her very long black hair. Weird
and damn cool at the same time…

kilss

She didn’t sing, she screamed, while Jamie “Hotel” Hince tortured his guitar like a mad man and tried to get some piercing backing rhythms out of a small beatbox between songs. Weird and cool at the same time. I loved it. I kept following the band’s releases but for reasons I can’t remember (that lazy memory!) I never saw them live again. With this year’s new LP ‘Ash & Ice’ – their fifth – I planned to see them finally on a stage again. But so far I couldn’t get tickets, beyond my will (very long story), for all of their 3 concerts in Belgium, my home country. So tomorrow, Friday, I’ll travel to the wonderful city of Amsterdam to
get my much-needed dose of that awesome duo. To warm up, here’s that brill song that probably messed up my memory over the years…

BABYBIRD – Twisted Magnum Opus ‘UGLY BEAUTIFUL’ Released 20 Years Ago…

Looking and listening back at memorable moments in sonic history…

backtimebw

‘Ugly Beautiful’ by BABYBIRD

babybird

Many know and will remember romantic hit single You’re Gorgeous but will probably have long forgotten who actually wrote and sung this tremendous, misunderstood pop song about “male photographers who want to use women to sell things using sex” as the author himself explained the real meaning of the song long after its release. The same people
certainly can’t name the title of the album that successful sing along was on. Yes, the
South Yorkshire‘s singer/songwriter Stephen Jones better know as BABYBIRD was a one
hit wonder to the charts-only-loving public but a damn intriguing artist for those who digged deeper. Despite the sonic accessibility of most of his post-indie work he was
just too weird, too eccentric – mentally and lyrically – and too dark for the masses.
UGLY BEAUTIFUL, his first album for a major, after four lo-fi LP’s, contained mostly
re-worked songs. Bigger, richer and fuller in sound than his own previous self-made recordings. It was released on 21 October 1996 – 20 years ago – but didn’t age one bit. Melodic, haunting and gloomy, spiced with captivating vocals. Compelling songs, unusual observations on love (Goodnight / King Bing / Jesus Is My Girlfriend ), life and death with a, sometimes, macabre and/or freaky approach ( I Didn’t Want To Wake You Up / Dead Bird Sings / Cornershop) and overall cleverly twisted lyrics. A superb, multi-layered, diamond with many highlights. Here are three of them…

DEAD BIRD SINGS (magnificent live rendition)

GOODNIGHT (poppy)

KING BING (creepy)

(Okay, I surrender…) YOU’RE GORGEOUS
