‘Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band’ by THE BEATLES
On 1 June 1967 the FAB FOUR released their most innovative album so far in their career. SGT. PEPPER’S LONELY HEARTS CLUB BAND was musically and conceptually different from anything they did before and sounded and looked spectacularly at that very time, fifty years ago. Listening to that non-stop symphony magic still feels quite special today. Becoming a devoted and experimental studio band – with the incredibly impactful vision from fifth Beatle George Martin – after their decision not to play live anymore the Liverpool legends created a masterpiece (almost) everyone loved, then and now, and it was the perfect soundtrack for the 1967 summer of love. I’m sure even the ones who didn’t/doesn’ like the best ever popular music band in history at least listened once to that magnum opus. A great 1987 Rolling Stone Mag piece on the album with Paul McCartney anecdotes tells a lot about the birth and the making of that timeless record. You can read it here.
Now, music maestro, please!
‘It was 50 years ago today Sgt. Pepper
taught the band to play’…
The iconic Peppers album sleeve even inspired my wife and me for our 2009 wedding invitation (the size of a 7″ single with all info of the wedding party on the back)…
