PETER HOOK & THE LIGHT Fronted By Awesome Voice ROWETTA Cover JOY DIVISION Majestically…

‘New Dawn Fades’ by PETER HOOK & THE LIGHT with ROWETTA on vocals
Original by JOY DIVISION

Four reasons to feature this song. One: to my devoted fan ears NEW DAWN FADES is
the darkest, the gloomiest and most affecting track Manchester legends JOY DIVISION
ever produced with monumental vocals by the late Ian Curtis. Two: next Saturday (19 August) I will see PETER HOOK (ex-Joy Division/New Order, as all fans know of course) playing live again at W-Festival in Belgium. His outstanding and mind-boggling way of playing the bass was/is, unquestionably, essential for both band’s truly unique sound. Without Hooky no JD or NO as we know them today. Three: this live rendition with ace singer ROWETTA (most famous as a member of Happy Mondays) is nothing less than stunning. Her towering voice gives ‘New Dawn Fades‘ another dimension. Suddenly this pitch-black masterstroke sounds touchingly soulful & romantically melancholic. WOW! Although the audio quality of this clip isn’t 100% I guess you’ll understand why I say that Rowetta is blessed with one of the greatest soul voices I ever heard. My supplication to Hooky: bring Rowetta along for next Saturday’s gig…

A change of speed, a change of style
A change of scene, with no regrets
A chance to watch, admire the distance
Still occupied, though you forget

Different colors, different shades
Over each mistakes were made
I took the blame

Directionless so plain to see
A loaded gun won’t set you free
So you say

We’ll share a drink and step outside
An angry voice and one who cried
‘We’ll give you everything and more
The strain is too much, can’t take much more

Oh, I’ve walked on water, run through fire
Can’t seem to feel it anymore
It was me, waiting for me
Hoping for something more
Me, seeing me this time
Hoping for something else
