The One And Only Great SPANDAU BALLET Song – ‘CHANT No. 1 (I DON’T NEED THIS PRESSURE ON)’…

Knockouts from the past

14 May 2019

When I just read in my musical history book that 80s photoshopped synth pop models SPANDAU BALLET scored, commercially, their biggest album with their third one called TRUE this day 36 years ago, on 14 May 1983 I decided immediately to ignore this fact – as they were one of the worst brand bands ever IMO – but to honor them on the other hand for that one and only brilliant song they came up with two years earlier.

Oh yes indeed, ladies and gents, ‘CHANT No. 1 (I DON’T NEED THIS PRESSURE ON)‘ was and still is a solid gold 24 Carat cracker. A top dance floor killer sounding like a mix of A Certain Ratio‘s Shack Up and Pigbag‘ Papa’s Got A Brand New Pigbag. It earned them, rightly so, a Top Ten score on the UK singles chart. Come on, shake those lazy legs…
