Great bands from the past
9 February 2022
Band: CARTER THE UNSTOPPABLE SEX MACHINE (London, UK)
Original name turning into Carter USM later on.
Who: Indie electro-punk duo featuring Jim “Jim Bob”
Morrison and guitarist Les “Fruitbat” Carter.
Active: 1987–1998, 2007–2014
The duo’s pretty superb third LP 1992 – THE LOVE ALBUM
(their only No 1 hit album in the UK) turns 30 next May.
AllMusic said: “What turned out to be Carter the Unstoppable Sex Machine’s
shortest album, at a mere 36 minutes, was also its most commercially successful,
debuting in the U.K. at number one and confirming the band as a massive draw.
With 1992 their shouldn’t-succeed-but-still-does combination of synthesizer/rock
fanfares is particularly brilliant. “ Score: 4.5/5.
Gone but definitely not forgotten.
Three great CARTER USM moments…
– THE ONLY LIVING BOY IN NEW CROSS –
(Top 10 single from The Love album)
– ANYTIME ANYPLACE ANYWHERE –
(Mind-boggling symphonic punk-pop.
From 30 Something LP)
– SUPPOSE YOU GAVE A FUNERAL AND NOBODY CAME –
(Awesome title, awesome tune – also from The Love album)
