TUBELIGHT – Belgian Garage Trash Force With Hottest Album Of The Moment…

Weekly vibrations to soundtrack your favorite 48 hours…

24 March 2018

They rattle, they rumble, they roar and they roll. They are TUBELIGHT. A cracking 5-piece out of Belgium that released its second album EXPERT BY VIRTUE, THEREOF just a few weeks ago. A blazing record Turn Up The Volume had on his earphones every single day since it hit the streets (review:  here). Imagine the early Velvet Underground with Mark E Smith – who’s singing instead of barking – producing some hellish hullabaloo jams. Fierce, sharp, nasty and hair-raising with frontman Long Tall Lee spitting and sneering like the demonic best. Pretty awesome! Best gang of the moment, on record and on stage. Why
I hear you ask? Here’s why…

ON RECORD

.
ON STAGE
Yesterday the trashy engine played my hometown Ghent again and turned their stupendous longplayer into a smashing powerhouse on stage at the Charlatan
venue with an overall riotous knockout sound that makes your head spin 360°.
Boiling guitars, kicking rhythm section, Ray Manzarek‘s ghost on keys and Lee
Swinnen
‘s screaming and shouting on top of it. No nonsense, no special effects,
no arty farty shit. Just: MIND-BOGGLING GARAGE NOISE HAVOC TO GO NUTS TO!…

TUBELIGHT Is Dead! Long Live TUBELIGHT! New Fantabulous Album ‘EXPERT BY VIRTUE, THEREOF’ Out Now…

New sonic impulses to activate your senses…

new-stuff

24 February 2018

Belgium‘s striking collective TUBELIGHT, led by singer/songwriter Lee Swinnen has just released their sophomore longplayer, titled EXPERT BY VIRTUE, THEREOF. The band makes a truly spectacular, sonic U-turn. From dark, psychedelic musings on their debut album Heliosphere to The Fall inspired wickedness and the Velvet Underground‘s raw
jam electricity and eccentric stories on the new record. I was speechless after one spin.

A true tour de force with a rip-roaring result. Swinnen sneers and spits, at times, like
the late, great genial badass/narcist Mark E. Smith did whole his turbulent life with one notable difference, the fact that Swinnen actually can sing (Isolation / Snake Oil Salesman / Reverberate – Ribbit Parade). At times it feels like the LP was recorded in 1967 in New York City in Andy Warhols’ Factory club (Nervous Jim / Complexity / LSD Coy Boy). Yes, ladies and gents, trust me, I’m euphoric for the right reasons. And on top of it the revamped line-up nailed it live, yesterday in my hometown Ghent (Belgium) at their album release party. Now a 5-piece with Ray Manzarek‘s spiritual grandson on organ Tubelight played a non-stop stunning set with a I Wanna Hit bravado. TUBELIGHT is dead! Long live TUBELIGHT!

TUBELIGHT Returns With Some Totally Different Shit – Here’s New Spitting Single ‘PERFECT ROUTINE’…

12 February 2018

I can’t remember a band changing so drastically in sound after one album as Belgian
5-piece Tubelight does right now. As much I loved their debut album Heliosphere, an eminent work of dazzling psychedelia pop, their brand new single PERFECT ROUTINE
hits new sonic territory that makes you long for the band’s future and not its past. Here’s
a totally different animal shaking things up tremendously as the late, great Mark E Smith did non-stop all his troubled life. What you get here are ramshackle guitar drones doing your poor head in, cracking garage drum beats pumping up your adrenalin and spitting sneers by frontman Lee Swinnen daring you to throw your widescreen televion through the bloody window. This is a wayward high-quality smack! Imagine The Velvet Underground on tons of acid instead of brain-killing heroin. The Fall is dead! Long Live Tubelight! Capture the nasty fever right here…

TUBELIGHT – Lee Swinnen’s Gloomy Side Almost Back..

liveblglo

TUBELIGHT – Café Afsnis, Ghent, Belgium – 15 November 2016

t1

Belgian singer-songwriter & garage rocker Lee Swinnen‘s gloomy psychedelic underground band TUBELIGHT (with a new drummer and a new awesome guitarist), had a try out gig,
to test new material on stage last Tuesday in a crowded bar – not made actually to host
live music – in my hometown Ghent. And it started damn marvelous. Like a psycho punk TubeHeavy fronted by Captain Beefheart with snippets of Jefferson Airplane and The Doors keyboards atmospherics turning, at times, into some mind-blowing jams. Sometimes try-out’s are far more spontaneous, honest and perfect in an imperfect way than show number 17 of a series of routine like performances. And this was, almost, one of those unique and special happenings. But an incredibly bloody annoying part of the audience kept babbling their lives away DURING the concert, so badly, that Swinnen finished the
set before playing, as was the intention, his masterpiece I WANNA HIT. A sudden but not totally surprising end when you were paying attention to what was exactly going on, off and on the podium. But I don’t want those same indifferent people spoil my mood further on. I saw a newborn Tubelight engine and here’s that brilliant, nasty knockout right now, right here…

.
Anyway, new Tubelight music will be coming our way around March next year…

TUBELIGHT Scores Contender For Best Track Of 2015 With ‘I WANNA HIT’…

TrackDay1

10 June 2015

Tube4-800

Band: TUBELIGHT

Home: Diest, Belgium

Track: I WANNA HIT – the minacious & thunderous closer on
their excellent debut album ‘Heliosphere‘ (Spotify link below)

Score: From the bass drone intro on, followed by frontman Lee Swinnen‘s threatening
vox and the way he warns us that he wanna hit, you can feel a diabolic electricity in the
air. Midway the creepy ride the sonic thunderous orchestration gets heavier and nastier. The drummer hammers gloriously frenetic before he goes completely bonkers. Then the fantastic, psych injected banging groove takes over again and leads this wall-of-frantic-sound towards a rousing finale. This is an overwhelming mind-bending hit. Get your headphones on, turn up the volume and freak out. This way, folks…
