this, it’s fine. Impossible to resist this tremendously infectious corker spinning around like forever inviting you to pirouette yourself dizzy while duet vocals push the pace. No pause, no breathing space, no interval, always straight on.

‘Wytch Lych’ by VAZUM (Detroit, MI)
Sonically this surreal saga wouldn’t be out of place on a Gary Numan album. Lyrically it’s like an ode to the unknown eternity. In my imagination Wytch Lych resonates like a funeral hymn, celebrating the imperishability of the soul. Stunning vocals, striking synth shadows, and an overall spellbinding impressiveness. Top stuff!
‘Case History’ by LOSSLINE (Manchester, UK)
When I listened to this new little pearl on Spotify for the first time, it was followed
by the title track of the upcoming LP of The War On Drugs. I swear I thought that
it was another Lossline song. It was that melancholic guitar glow that confused
my ears. It wasn’t until Adam Granduciel‘s voice came up that I knew it wasn’t
the Manchester duo.

Last Friday ‘I’ll Be Your Mirror – A Tribute To The Velvet Underground’
came out with a cast of big names honoring the iconic band’s 1967 debut LP.
It’s impossible to top the classic original Sunday Morning (sung by Lou Reed)
but Michael Stipe‘s is pretty impressive.

Anniversary album: DIAMOND AND PEARLS – 13th LP
Released: 1 October 1991 – 30 years ago
Score: #1 in the US and Australia, #2 in the UK
Pitchfork said: “By 1991, Prince’s unsurpassed run of brilliance had ended, but he still
had a lot of great music in him. Diamonds and Pearls had a clutch of future classics along
with some odd experiments… As with all the greatest pop stars, Prince was a master at simplifying life’s most complicated emotions into catchphrases. He encompassed lust, jealousy, fear, spirituality, avarice, the impulse to run away, and the need to strip everything to its core—sometimes literally, sometimes figuratively. The man who believed in everlasting love died alone and childless, adored by almost the entire world. A song like “Diamonds and Pearls” illustrates why. For all the flamboyance and idiosyncrasy, Prince just wanted the same things as everyone else.” Full review here. Score: 8/10.

we heard what the duo was actually doing. They dropped a characteristically Americana ballad called WASTED DAYS, written by Mellencamp, sing by himself and The Boss who
also plays acoustic guitar.

Lost album: TOY
A record Bowie wanted to release in 2001 but stayed in a box on a shelf.
Although it leaked already in 2011, an official release is now planned for
7th January 2022, the day after the Thin White Duke‘s birthday.
The late hero recorded the LP after Glastonbury 2000 with his live band at
the time, featuring songs he originally had put on tape between 1964-1971
along with the then-new closing track ‘Toy (Your Turn To Drive).’ The idea was
to capture a live-in-the-studio feel and drop the record by surprise. But for
technological problems, it didn’t happen and Bowie started working on the
2002 Heathen album.
Mark Plati (musician/producer/songwriter) who produced Toy together with Bowie:
“Toy is like a moment in time captured in an amber of joy, fire and energy. It’s the sound
of people happy to be playing music. David revisited and re-examined his work from decades prior through prisms of experience and fresh perspective — a parallel not lost on me as I now revisit it twenty years later. From time to time, he used to say “Mark, this is our album” — I think because he knew I was so deeply in the trenches with him on that journey. I’m happy to finally be able to say it now belongs to all of us.”
In addition to the standalone Toy release, also an expanded edition called
Toy: Box featuring all sorts of alternate takes and mixes plus B-sides, will
be available. More info here.
