The Grooviest Punk Disco Gang On The Planet Inflamed AMSTERDAM – Here’s… THE MOOLANDINGZ

THE MOONLANDINGZ – Paradiso, Amsterdam – Wednesday 26 April 2017

Due to heavy traffic – bloody annoyance – it took me 4 hours instead of 2 and a half to drive from my hometown Ghent (Belgium) to the cool capital of The Netherlands. Was
a 45-minute rock gig worth all the aggravation in the car? Damn, it was! It’s quite simple: THE MOONLANDINGZ is the most exciting gang at this very moment on this troubled planet. Their debut album ‘Interplanetary Class Classics‘ is smashing-punk-dance-dope for body and mind. And live these outlaws are one hell of a thunderous groove machine. This freakish collective includes Sheffield’s electronic weirdos The Eccentronic Research Council and Fat White Family‘s possessed frontman Lias Saoudi. If you never heard of these wicked anarchists get their mind–boggling Saturday Night Fever vibe here…

Exhibitionist Lias aka Johnny Rocket – whether he likes it or not (I bet he does) – is the unquestionable star. Not a preaching Bono or Alex Fake Turner kind of star. No, he’s for REAL. He became an outsider not by choice but because of the way narcissistic monkeys rule this damaged world. He’s intelligent, politically outspoken and his anger & frustration turned him into a provocative songwriter and demonic performer on stage (I saw him going bonkers, four times, with the mental The Fat White Family before). I’m sure one day he’ll scream his brains out… literally. This live footage from a London show will give you a blazing idea of his exorcistic and intoxicating presence when he hits the podium. Release the bats…

Lias about rock and roll: “You don’t need anything to do it. It’s an art form which is a truly democratic medium. In its own way. The tone is ridiculous and yet serious, and I enjoy that it’s all over in 2/3 minutes. It doesn’t demand much. So for me, you can be more free than in rock than in anything else.”

I guess you know by now why I suffered for hours in my car. I wanted to see, hear and experience the Grooviest Disco Punk Gang Of The Moment and I returned at night, with a
big grin on my face and loaded batteries, back home at full speed (in 2 hours, no traffic) with Interplanetary Class Classics on my stereo…

OasissOME

Twenty-two years ago Manchester legends OASIS released SOME MIGHT SAY. Their
first Number One single hit the top spot of the UK charts two weeks after its release.
There were three more excellent tracks on the cd single. Intimate ballad Talk Tonight,
storming anthem ‘Acquiesce’ and punk outburst ‘Headshrinker’. Here’s the cool black
and white clip for‘ Some Might Say’…

Some might say that sunshine follows thunder
Go and tell it to the man who cannot shine
Some might say that we should never ponder
On our thoughts today cos they hold sway over time

Some might say we will find a brighter day
Some might say we will find a brighter day

Cos I’ve been standing at the station
In need of education in the rain
You made no preparation for my reputation once again
The sink is full of fishes
She’s got dirty dishes on the brain
It was overflowing gently but it’s all elementary my friend

Some might say they don’t believe in heaven
Go and tell it to the man who lives in hell
Some might say you get what you’ve been given
If you don’t get yours I won’t get mine as well

Some might say we will find a brighter day
Some might say we will find a brighter day

Cos I’ve been standing at the station
In need of education in the rain
You made no preparation for my reputation once again
The sink is full of fishes
Cos she’s got dirty dishes on the brain
And my dog’s been itchin’
Itchin’ in the kitchen once again

Some might say Some might say
Some might say Some might say
You know what some might say
You know what some might say
You know what some might say

Bobby Gillespie also spoke to Dazed and Confused Magazine about his fascination for record stores: “You know, at their best they are magical, beautiful places where you can go
to lose yourself and dream and maybe fall in love with a new song or sound that you haven’t heard before, and that little vinyl record that lasts three minutes and twenty seconds can be the beginning of a lifetime’s trip into the unknown. Music has never let me down, ever. My record collection is precious, it’s my life, right there, pure vinyl magic.”
