Smoking Engine WEEK NEEZ Thunders With Propelling Force On New Single ‘JENNY’

20 April 2021

Who: A musical act of some kind from
Wollongong, New South Wales

Pick: JENNY – brand new single
About: “A romantic tale of deep longing and unrequited love.”

Score: Holy moly! Wham bloody wham bam! This jagged jackhammer explodes from
the badass kick-off with propelling force working its way to the knockout chorus with
fired-up dash. Can’t remember hearing such a smoking love song. Sounds like Green Day on ecstasy, like Black Sabbath if they had been a pugnacious punk band in overdrive, like The Clash if they had been a white-riotous hard rock band. This a fucktastic sucker punch with a volcanic climax. Red-hot-blooded stroke!

NO MUSIC ON A DEAD PLANET – Reworked JOY DIVISION Album Cover For Charity Campaign

Legendary graphic designer Peter Saville created the iconic
front sleeve of Joy Division‘s hugely influential debut LP
Unknown Pleasures
back in 1979.

He made some changes to the image destined for a charity t-shirt
to support the No Music On A Dead Planet campaign initiated by
Music Declares Emergency.

A group of artists, music industry professionals and organisations that
stand together to declare a climate and ecological emergency and call
for an immediate governmental response to protect all life on Earth. We
believe in the power of music to promote the cultural change needed to
create a better future.

No one than better Peter Hook – JD’s heroic bassist –
is the man to promote the project

He explains: “The truth of the matter is that the world is in terrible
trouble now and if we don’t look to address the climate emergency
facing the planet immediately then ourselves and all future generations
face tremendous problems. If everyone can look to make changes,
we could all have a huge impact.”

JULIAN COPE – Highly Acclaimed Album ‘PEGGY SUICIDE’ Turns 30

20 April 2021

Artist: JULIAN COPE (Welshmen, 63 years old)
Album: PEGGY SUICIDE – 7h solo album
Released: 22 April 1991 – 30 years ago

ALL MUSIC wrote: “Casting the ill-advised attempts at too-clean modern rock from his late-’80s days firmly aside and fulfilling the promise of Skellington and Droolian, Cope on Peggy Suicide produced his best album to date, overtopping even his Teardrop Explodes efforts. Showing a greater musical breadth and range than ever before, from funk to noise collage — and more importantly, not sounding like a dilettante at any step of the way. An absolute, stone-cold rock classic, full stop.” Score: 4.5/5 – Full review here.

TURN UP THE VOLUME‘s favorite tracks: Pristeen / Double Vegetation / East Easy Rider / Soldier Blue / Hanging Out & Hung Up On The Line / You / Beautiful Love / Las Vegas Basement

Out Of The Blue ENTER SHIKARI Surprise With A Passionate Homemade LP

20 April 2021

Band: ENTER SHIKARI (St Albans, Hertfordshire, England)
Who: Noise-core-rockers active since 1999 / seven albums (so far)

Released: 16 April 2021

Info: A companion album to their 2020 LP Nothing Is True & Everything
Is Possible
. As the pandemic prevented the group from touring the album the
band soon started their Live At Home series playing songs from ‘Everything‘.

All those Live At Home sessions, a couple of covers (Bowie’s Heroes is pretty cool),
some solo performances by frontman Rou Reynolds and more special moments
are now collected on this new record that landed out of the blue last Friday.

‘Nothing Is True & Everything Is Possible’ artwork

Rou Reynolds (frontman): “With no live shows, and no real contact with the rest of the band, it was nice to at least be able to do some remote sessions together,” reflects the vocalist. “It was also interesting to develop acoustic and alternative versions of some of the new tracks. These performances went some way to filling the gaping hole in our lives!”

Turn Up The Volume: This is an awe-inspiring, intense and feverish record. Most of all the acoustic versions of recent songs (and a couple of covers) burst with passion, melancholia, and ardency. Lockdown blues at its emotional best. Fantabulous surprise.
