JOY DIVISION – ‘She’s Lost Control’ – BBC 1979…

Joy Division
‘She’s Lost Control’
On BBC Four
‘Something Else’ show
September 1979

Confusion in her eyes that says it all.
She’s lost control.
And she’s clinging to the nearest passer-by,
She’s lost control.
And she gave away the secrets of her past,
And said I’ve lost control again,
And of a voice that told her when and where to act,
She said I’ve lost control again.

And she turned around and took me by the hand
And said I’ve lost control again.
And how I’ll never know just why or understand
She said I’ve lost control again.
And she screamed out kicking on her side
And said I’ve lost control again.
And seized up on the floor, I thought she’d die.
She said I’ve lost control.
She’s lost control again.
She’s lost control.
She’s lost control again.
She’s lost control.

Well I had to phone her friend to state my case,
And say she’s lost control again.
And she showed up all the errors and mistakes,
And said I’ve lost control again.
But she expressed herself in many different ways,
Until she lost control again.
And walked upon the edge of no escape,
And laughed I’ve lost control.
She’s lost control again.
She’s lost control.
She’s lost control again.
She’s lost control.

I could live a little better with the myths and the lies,
When the darkness broke in, I just broke down and cried.
I could live a little in a wider line,
When the change is gone, when the urge is gone,
To lose control. When here we come.

PINS ! Moody Pop Pearl…

TrackOFday-800 - kopie

27 November 2015

This all female Manchester gang scored with their second LP ‘Wild Nights’ one of the best guitar pop albums of the year. A remarkable rich record. From fully charged pop anthems to dreamy power ballads which they perform life with extra adrenalin, an irresistible flair and a sensual swagger as I experienced last September in Brussels.

PINS now just shared a video for ‘God It Bad’ one of the highlights. A moody reverb pearl. Get lost in it…

IAN DURY – ‘Sex & Drugs & Rock & Roll’ – Live On Dutch TV 1978…

Legendary singer/songwriter and especial Cockney live performer IAN DURY (12 May 1942 – 27 March 2000) scored his biggest hit – together with the BLOCKHEADS – with ‘Sex & Drugs & Rock & Roll’ – a brilliant track & single from his magnificent and classic debut album ‘New Boots and Panties !!‘ (released 30 September, 1977). Due to Dury’s policy of not including singles on albums the song only appeared on repressings of the LP.

On January 28, 1978 Ian Dury and The Blockheads appeared on the weekly and highly succesful Dutch ‘Top Pop’ TV show. Great fun to watch. Let’s go back in history…

EAGLES OF DEATH METAL – ‘I Love You All The Time’ For Paris Victims…

26 November 2015

Here’s the first interview of EAGLES OF DEATH METAL after the horrific Paris tragedy…

The band asks every artist regardless of their musical genre to cover ‘I Love You All The Time’ a track of their new album ‘Zipper Down’. All fees will be donated to the Paris victims and their families. Josh Homme added also: “I would challenge iTunes, Spotify, Amazon, Tidal, whomever delivers music to get on board and if that song is recorded to donate all of it so the entirety is designated to help anyone that was a victim of this Paris attack and ruined by this to recover again.”

Here’s the song…

MELTING TIME! High-Voltage Post Punk From Belgium…

26 November 2015

In their own words: “Melting Time is a four-piece band from Lier, Belgium.
Born from the ashes of black trench coats and post-punk trashers. They express themselves in a compelling and energetic way.”

Turn Up The Volume’s words: they’re damn right, they’re a smoking volcano trying to get rid of scary demons – how in the world, shame on me, did I only heard/saw them for the first time just last week when they were support act to the new British pop heroes Wolf Alice in Brussels.

Works: Two singles. ‘Eyes’ (2014) and ‘Sun’ (2015). Discover both powerful cuts here…

‘EYES’ – A slow-burning apocalyptic, mighty bass-driven groove turning into a high-voltage frenzy. Intoxicating stuff to soundtrack your weekly exorcism party!

‘SUN’ – Exploring trip into the darkness guided by electrifying guitars, menacing bass/drums and early Joy Division drones. Their sun is a black star…

In 2008 The Pogues released a 5-CD compilation titled… hold your breath… ‘Just Look Them Straight In The Eye And Say… Poguemahone!! – The Pogues Box Set’.

109 tracks from 1983 demos (pre-dating their first recordings for Stiff Records) through
to live recordings (from 2001 when they played for the first time since they disbanded in 1996), rarities, outtakes and covers. Here’s the (very) long tracklist and you can explore a revealing track by track guide by late Pogues’ guitarist and songwriter Phil Chevron here.

One of the most captivating covers on this box is Rod Stewart’s worldwide hit ‘Maggie May’ which appeared on his ‘Every Picture Tells a Story‘ album in 1971. Let’s have
some fun and listen to both versions…
