SYSTEM OF A DOWN Released Self-Titled Metallic Powerhouse Debut Album 20 Years Ago…

Going back in sonic history looking for memorable albums…

29 June 2018

Band: SYSTEM OF A DOWN

Album: Self-titled debut

Released: 30 June 1998 – 20 years ago

ALL MUSIC wrote: “System of a Down’s self-titled major-label debut finds the Los Angeles
band consolidating its gothic alt-metal, sharpening its deadly riffs, strengthening its brutal rhythms, and adding muscle to its attack. The band differentiates itself from the legions of Southern Californian alt-metalheads by emphasizing its Armenian musical heritage, which
gives the music an eerie, otherworldly quality. Part of the success of System of a Down lies
with producer Rick Rubin, who helps give the band focus, but ultimately the record works because of the band itself, since they have contributed a set of strong songs that illustrates
this is a band that relies on smarts as well as sound.”
Score: 4/5

TODAY’S YESTERDAY ALBUM – ’16 Lovers Lane’ – Sixth LP By THE GO-BETWEENS

Remarkable albums from the past…

’16 Lovers Lane‘ by THE G0-BETWEENS
Released: August 1988

gobetweens

ALL MUSIC wrote: “Arguably Australia’s greatest pop group ever, The Go-Betweens seemed
to save the best for last when they split in 1989. (They reunited in 1999, and have issued two more studio recordings since that time). 16 Lovers Lane is simply breathtaking; it is a deeply moving, aurally sensual collection of songs about relationships and the broken side of love
that never lapses into cheap sentimentality or cynicism. Songwriters Robert Forster and Grant McLennan had always been visionary when it came to charting personal and relational melancholy and heartbreak, but here, their resolve focused on charting the depths of the romantic’s soul when it has been.” disillusioned or crestfallen, is simply and convincingly taut. While it’s true that the group was going through its own version of a soap opera-styled romantic saga, that emotional quagmire seemingly fueled its energies and focus, resulting in an album so texturally rich, lyrically sharp, and musically honest, its effect is nothing less than searing on an any listener who doesn’t have sawdust instead of blood in his or her veins.”

Californian Psych Rockers TOMBSTONES IN THEIR EYES With New Wall-Of-Hypnotic Sound Track ‘SILHOUETTE’…

Daily fuel to load your sonic batteries…

27 June 2018

tomb

These Los Angeles noiseniks tested the flexibility of Turn Up The Volume‘s headphones before and their brand new wall-of-hypnotic-sound escapade, titled SILHOUETTE does
the trick over again. This 5-headed kaleidoscopic force grabs you by the ears from the
very start with layers of magnetizing psych turbulence that infiltrates your bloodstream without asking.  Like a bang-up slo-mo Black Rebel Motorcycle Club outburst mixed with the darksome  orchestrations of The Black Angels. I guess this time my poor headphones will surrender, certainly if I keep on turning up the decibels with every spin, as I’m doing now for the past 30 minutes. I just love it when this kind of prodigious symphonies take over your mind. Try it for yourself right here, right loud…

PUBLIC ENEMY Released Razor-Sharp Album ‘IT TAKES A NATION OF MILLIONS TO HOLD US BACK’ Thirty Years Ago…

Going back in sonic history looking for memorable albums…

27 June 2018

Band: PUBLIC ENEMY

Album: IT TAKES A NATION OF MILLIONS TO HOLD US BACK – their 2nd LP

Released: 28 June 1988 – 30 years ago

ROLLING STONE wrote: “Loud, obnoxious, funky, avant-garde, political, hilarious. Public Enemy’s brilliant second album is all of these things, all at once. Chuck D booms intricate rhymes with a delivery inspired by sportscaster Marv Albert; sidekick Flavor Flav raps comic relief; and production team the Bomb Squad builds mesmerizing, multilayered jams, pierced with shrieking sirens. The title and roiling force of “Bring the Noise” is truth in advertising. “If they’re callin’ my music ‘noise,'” said Chuck D, “if they’re saying that I’m really getting out of character being a black person in America, then fine – I’m bringin’ more noise.”

TURN UP THE VOLUME says: these explosive rap masters were the most furious,
the most opinionated and the most inspiring ones ever. Pure street punk poetry!

26 June 2018

CROATIA

Band: CROATIA

Who:With a heavy nod to the revolutionary sounds of 80’s era pop and electronic, Victoria, BC, Canada synth quartet CROATIA are creating their own unlikely – and at times darker – brand of pop.”
