KING KRULE (born Archy Ivan Marshall in London 28 years ago)
has his new – 4th – longplayer, titled SPACE HEAVY out.
Pitchfork: “His songs have always felt close to home, charcoal-smeared with London dusk and the nocturnal cadence of London jazz. On Space Heavy, for the first time, the great London singer-songwriter’s ambitions feel accordingly local, too.” Full review here. Score: 7.5/10.
TUTV: Archy found himself fascinated by the notion of “the space between” – the space haunted by dreams of love, touching a narrative of lost connection, losing people and situations to the guillotine of the universe. Lots of mood swings on Space Heavy which disturbs the balance of Krule‘s stream of consciousness, lyrically and musically, now and then. He’s a gifted songwriter but also a capricious and wayward one. He should leave his shadowy bubble more.

Band: CAUTIONARY TALES
Who: An experimental art-rock collective that draws inspiration from a
diverse range of influences, blending them into a unique and captivating
sound. Based in Berlin but with roots in Aotearoa and NYC, the band is
fronted by Will Marshall, a songwriter with a commanding baritone voice.
With a musical palette borrowed from contemporary art-rock, Greek
mythology, modernist poetry, electronic music, indie pop, and post-punk,
CT defies easy categorization.
The name Cautionary Tales refers to a fundamental type of storytelling that
explores the consequences of our actions. Rooted in folklore, myth, and various
forms of literature, these stories illuminate the myriad ways life can go terribly
or comically.
New single: WOMEN
The second shared cut from the upcoming
self-titled debut LP, out on 18th August.
TUTV: Vocally, legendary baritone voice Scott Walker comes to mind and musically
my ears tell me that Cautionary Tales operate somewhere in between romantics The National and the late great Mark Sandman‘s Morphine. This is gloomy pop coming
from the corners of dark minds.
Frontman’s Will Marshall doesn’t write/sing about the birds and bees here, but about impressive women, from the past and present. Well that’s what I can comprehend from the lyrics. Women is an enigmatic piece of compelling music driven by magnetic bass play and orchestral arrangements. It sticks and invites you to have this composition on repeat for a while in order to find out what the song’s wandering souls are actually at.
St Hildegard earned great regard, a prophet in her time
Wrote the Lingua Ignota, the sibyl of the Rhine
St Joan of Arc, she made her mark. was killed, then canonised
For the Dauphin’s claim of immortal fame but she’s the one now lionised
And Patti Smith on the cover of Easter
Well she brought me to my knees
We’re lucky babe, we’re doing fine to live through times like these
Annie Clark took us all apart, the greatest in her times
Walked that line between idolic art and the secrets, swamp & grime
Tune in.

Former Beatle and grand pop singer/songwriter/composer
PAUL McCARTNEY is 81 today. He was born in Liverpool
on 18 June 1942.
Without a shadow of a doubt, one of the most influential artists ever with
an immense and astounding canon. With all what Sir Macca realized musically,
in the first place with the immortal fab four The Beatles, afterward with Wings
and his numerous solo albums he achieved, rightly so, a Godlike genius status.
3 big moments.

Two weeks ago crooner BAXTER DURY (yes, the son of Ian) released
his new, 7th longplayer, baptized I Thought I Was Better Than You .
Dury about the making of the new LP in an interview with The Book Of Man: “I don’t really have a ritual about songwriting, one thing happens after the other. I found bits of music I liked by me or my son and just sang a story type of thing over the top. Like how you would in a hip hop way. But my songwriting instincts still kick in, so there’s a songwriting landscape to it, those chorus instincts.”
Dury still is a nightdreamer making music for nightdreamers, lonely souls, melancholic people, barflies and all easy-going ears that embrace moony musings like these.
