JUKEBOX 2025 – Week 33 Five New Rad Tracks Added Twice A Week

In order to not miss a beat TURN UP THE VOLUME scans the musical
horizon daily, for 10 years now, to pick ace tracks and add 5 new ones
twice per week, to the one and only JUKEBOX playlist that matters.

ALL TOGETHER

The 5 fresh ones
TRACK BY TRACK

Band: THE LIVING PINS
Who: Flaring indie duo – Carrie Clark and Pam Peltz who found each other on
the edge of the delicately ramshackle playground of the 1990s Austin (Texas)
music scene. They released their 4-track debut EP Let It Be So in 2023,
followed by some ace singles.

Track: 108
Their newest single.

Pam: “108” is like 1980s Austin, downtown around 6th St. and Lamar, when there were abandoned car dealerships and weeds growing everywhere and driveways to nowhere.
I would be walking around in the extreme heat, almost so hot I couldn’t see. But loving it,
cuz I kind of love the Texas heat, which I know is wrong.”

Carrie: ” One of the things that I love about the Texas heat is that it feels purifying.
It burns your soul clean. It’s almost like you’re going through this baptism of heat to
really feel like you’re at home in Austin. You get the baptism of cold in Barton Springs,
but the rest of the time, walking down the street, it’s a baptism of heat.”

TUTV: Expect another foot-tapping living pins cherry bomb, powered by gloriously
creaking guitars and a sing-along/hum-along chorus. Funky and groovy kick, all
day long.

Band: LOS PALMS
Who: rock trio Adelaide, Australia who deliver a soundtrack soaked in vintage fuzz.
Their signature “desert jangle” sound, has 60s garage, spaghetti western and modern
psych influences.

Track: WAY TOO COLD
Newest single from their upcoming debut LP,
entitled Sorrows. It’s out on August 29th.

“Way Too Cold is four minutes of sunburnt ‘60s jangle, stomping choruses, and a dark psych detour before slamming back for the kill. The video rips through Los Palms’ South Australian stomping grounds, A tribute to the country towns and rugged coastlines carved into the band’s DNA.”

TUTV: Jingly jangly guitars, a galvanizing groove, vivid vocals, back-up harmonies
and a peppy chorus combine for an electrifying psychedelic thrill. The 60s were
and still are an uplifting and exciting force.

Band: IT’S KARMA IT’S COOL
Who: Psych pop rock
outfit from Lincoln, UK

Track: 21st CENTURY MEDS
Newest single from their upcoming new,
3rd album, titled ‘One Million Suburban Sunsets‘.

Jim Styring (frontman/songwriter): “The song is about living in this modern world, doing what it takes to get by and basically survive. We all need something to get us through these troubled times, so we all self medicate. Be that with drugs (legal or otherwise), alcohol, or any addictive behavior, whatever it may be, we’re all looking for that magic ‘something’.

But the song’s not judgemental, I’m just saying ‘look, this is how society has got us all, we’re all hooked on one thing or another, numbing ourselves behind a wall of 21st century medication. Perhaps it’s time to take a step back and look at ourselves”

TUTV: 21st Medicine Meds races and rushes like today’s merciless rat race, propelled
by layers of aggressive guitars, full-energetic percussion and feverish vocals. Listen to
it 3 times in a row per day, and 6 times on Sunday. It can help you to tranquillise your insecurity about these confusing times’ insanity.

——————————————————————————————————————————-

Band: ESCAPE GOATS
Who: 3 indie noiseniks from Glasgow, Scotland who
are among us only since the early days of 2024.

Track: ROMPECABEZAS
2nd single of the year.

I had no clue what that title means. So I googled it. It’s Spanish for
thinking very hard about a problem to try to find the solution to that
thing, not always successfully, but the expression is about trying. Well,
I guess this is what the band had in mind.

“A three-minute blast, capturing the feeling of being pulled in conflicting directions,
playing on double meanings and pseudowords, paired with angular guitars and
powerful drums.”

TUTV: No songs about the birds and the bees for these fortissimo Scots.
They have an unyielding appetite for boisterous guitar rampage and capricious,
yet sticky melodiousness, sturdy drum/bass firepower and full-throated vocals.
Crackajack stroke.

Linktree

Band: MAGNETIC SKIES (London, UK)
Who: Synth-pop trio formed in 2019 with a
shared love of 80s synth-driven post-punk.

They released their debut
album Empire Falling in 2023.

Track: BACK TO LIFE
2nd shared single from their forthcoming album,
named Fragments. It’s out in November.

“‘Back To Life’ explores the tension between our deep, universal connection and the fragmentation we face in the modern world, It’s about sensing that chaos, feeling the
void, the noise, and still holding on to the hope that we can come back from the edge.
It’s a call to reconnect, to bring something broken back into wholeness.”

TUTV: Shiny synth-pop delight from start to finish. Again, the trio wrap an elevating
tune in a sphere of electronic bliss juiced with alternating, heartening harmonies.
Exhilarating piece.

“We are made of stars / we are meteor showers /
losing all control / empty out the soul.”

Band: ROBOT HIVE
Who: 6-piece synthwave/electronic-rock team hailing from Regina, Canada. They draw inspiration from a diverse array of influences, including Depeche Mode, Nine Inch Nails, Devo, Tool, and many others

They released their debut album Prophylaxis in 2019.

Track: HEAVEN’S GATE
A provocative alt-pop anthem that skewers blind belief and modern
delusion, this song challenges listeners to follow evidence over fear.

TUTV: A booming bass beat that grooves and moves all the way through propels
this spicy stomper with brio and gusto. An irresistible feet-tapping buzzer that peaks
when the ablaze chorus comes on strong. Striking stroke.

Press photo by Frances Carter

Artist: FAZERDAZE
Who: Power-pop singer-songwriter
Amelia Rahayu Murray from New Zealand.

Track: MOTORWAY

About: “A feeling of being trapped between a city and a relationship, searching for home in both, but finding it in neither. It explores an enmeshment with familiarity; and the motorway becoming a symbol of that for me; repetitive, a loop to break out of, a false sense of freedom.”

TUTV: Fazerdaze‘s unswerving drive on the motorway works like a mind-bending
magnet. Sultry synths, distorted guitars and sensuous vocals cause an overpowering
thrill. Intoxicating psych pop for the twilight hours.

Instagram – Linktree
——————————————————————————————————————————-

Artist: RIVAL QUEENS
Who: The solo project of British guitarist Sally-Anne Hickman
who has played as a session and live guitarist with many bands
over the years.

Track: RIGHT NOW

Press info: With shades of the sparkling indie-pop of bands such
as Best Coast as well a clear inspiration from the British DIY scene.

TUTV: Right Now is a riff-repetitive pop ripper. Energizing, stimulating and
rollin’ fast-forward. Hickman‘s vivid vocals add extra vibrancy to the racy vibe.

Instagram – Linktree
——————————————————————————————————————————-

Band: HOME IS WHERE
Who: Emo rock team
from Palm Coast, Florida.

Track: DRIVE-BY MOONING
Closer from their 2nd, brand-new album
Hunting Soon.

TUTV: Raw, rough, perfectly out of tune, juiced with bluesy harmonica
and drunk fire camp harmonies. DIY indie at its genuine best.

.
Instagram – Facebook

Band: DRINK THE SEA
Who: New supergroup started by
R.E.M.’s guitarist Peter Buck.

Track: OUTSIDE AGAIN

TUTV: I played this sparkling ballad a few times on repeat. Every single
time, I thought it was a lost, bittersweet Mark Lanegan reverie.

8. ‘Vampires’ by BY THE WAVES (Manchester)

By the Waves are a dynamic 4-piece band based in Manchester. A uniquely eclectic sprinkle of soul, dream-pop, reggae, rock & indie make their sound exciting and unforgettable in equal measure.

They bring beautifully constructed lyrics, delivered with a signature blend of falsetto melody lines and anthemic choruses, which are layered over driving rhythmic beats and groove-ridden baselines, all topped off with sun-drenched, reverb-soaked guitar lines and a pinch of synth.

Marcie (vocalist) about the single: “Someday’ nearly didn’t make it onto the EP.
When we first played it as a band, we turned it into a dancey indie track. When it
came to recording the tune, we realised it didn’t work and left it on the sidelines.

After I first heard Mitski’s ‘Bug Like An Angel’ last summer, I picked up
my guitar and played ‘Someday’ again for the first time in months.

I realised it needed to stay the way it sounded when I first wrote it, intimate
and fragile. We recorded the song a few days later and decided to release it
after all.”

Crystalline vocals, endearing acoustic sonority, tender and romantic pearl.

.
TRACK BY TRACK

1. ‘No Economy’ by MANTARAYBRYN (Wales)

No Economy is a battle cry against the hyper rich properties and second homes bursting from Cornwall’s ancient clifftops. Taking the perspective of the desperate Cornish native, the song holds back zero punches, laying all the problems of London Money with zero subtlety.

TUTV: From the handclaps and a-cappela intro on, you feel ecstasy running throughout your veins. This tantalizing tune is just irresistibly sticky. If your body doesn’t react when this high-spirited protest chant hits your headphones, check your meds.

Striking stroke.

________________________________________________________________________________________________

2. ‘Oh Shit’ by THE LIBERTINES (London)

The British infamous mavericks release their 4th full-lenght,
called All Quiet On The Eastern Esplanada, on April 5.

To keep us happy while waiting, the Libs have
dropped single number 4 from the longplayer.

TUTV: Oh Shit is an inflamed crackajack sung by Carl Barât
and joined on the chirpy chorus by his buddy Doherty.

Oops, shit is coming.

________________________________________________________________________________________________

3. ‘Mirror Muscles‘ by SOFT PLAY (UK)

Press photo

This British post-punk duo know as Slaves until 2022. (“The name ‘Slaves’ is an issue
and doesn’t represent who we are as people or what our music stands for any longer.

TUTV: This new track off their upcoming 4th LP is a reckless shocker
combing hardcore aggressivity and punk dynamite. Hallelujah.

“We love to work out. We frequent the local gymnasium.
These are some thoughts we had while we were there”.

________________________________________________________________________________________________

4. ‘Pistol Whip’ by TOTALLY SLOW (North Carolina)

Photo: Melanie Mae Bryan

Pistol Whip is this ferocious band’s third single from their forthcoming fourth LP,
titled The Darkness Intercepts will be launched on March 22 via Refresh Records.

Scott Hicks (guitarist and vocalist): “We wanted to find a more dynamic balance for this record. The track order wasn’t taken lightly and there are lot of interesting samples and between-song transitions that I hope folks can find the time to receive fully as a whole piece. “Pistol Whip” is a tone-switch, and brings the BPM down a bit. The intensity level is still peaking but it still feels like breathing space – with lyrics conveying that we live inside of chaos and trying to find some peace in accepting the intractable nature of “being”. So it’s a sonic break and really an emotional break as well.”

TUTV: With this riff-insane projectile Totally Slow goes totally hard. Although the band says they’re taking a breather here – oh my, what a hazardous volcano album is waiting around the corner to be unleashed? – the combative level is huge. This in their face middle finger for all rotten politicians is loud and clear.

Hell yeah.

.

5. ‘My Favourite Place’ by CADET CARTER feat. Kayleigh Goldsworthy (Germany)

Pop Punk and Emo music has seen a remarkable resurgence over the past year. Although Cadet Carter consider themselves very much part of this genre, their sound is much closer to the likes of Jimmy Eat World and Taking Back Sunday. CC have a new album, called Self-Maintenance out on April 12, 2024

TUTV: This new piece has an instant electrifying impact with its bouncy riff rhythm
and vivid duet vocals and goes wholly heartfelt on the ardent chorus. You know
where to find the repeat button. Top thrill.

Enjoy.

________________________________________________________________________________________________

6. ‘Strangers’
by TUSKS (London)

London-based artist Emily Underhill aka TUSKS will have her new album GOLD out
on April 12. Strangers is the newest track off the longplayer.

TUTV: Synth splendor, affecting pop melodiousness,
and impassioned vocals come together here and will
undoubtedly seduce your ears.

________________________________________________________________________________________________

7. ‘Wild God’ by NICK CAVE & THE BAD SEEDS (Aus)

Nick Cave and his Bad Seeds have canned album number 18. It’s baptized Wild God and will be shared with the world on August 30. The LP is produced by Cave and his buddy Warren Ellis.

Along with the news came the title track.

One word: BRILLIANT.

________________________________________________________________________________________________

8. ‘Working Hard’ by DARK MEAN (Hamilton, Canada)

The musical project of Dark Mean refuses to slip away for good. The collective has been quietly chipping away in their Hamilton, Ontario studio. Once again they have focused their spontaneous fits of inspiration, typically captured on basic phone apps and wired between Ottawa and Hamilton, into something concrete.

About the new composition: “In terms of what inspired the song, or the lyrics… umm probably desperation. Feeling so desperate for something to happen while full-well knowing time is not on your side and there is nothing you can do but wait. So the opening of the track begins with this sort of cathartic release “Working hard, killing time. I woke up wrong, just to feel right.” Doing nothing is often harder than doing something, right?”

TUTV: Despite the mixed emotions at play here, there’s one thing this Canadian trio does to the limit: working hard on this new emotive mid-tempo cry out. You can just feel the agony in Mark Mean‘s voice. Bone-chilling and spellbinding. Don’t go away again, guys, keep on sharing your desperation. We love it.

________________________________________________________________________________________________

9. ‘Box’ by NEPTUNE’S CORE (Chicago)

Chicago‘s double sisters indie act just released two new songs: Box and Anyway

About BOX: “A life-changing” experience. We all were beaming and screaming and we just felt so good. The four of us all hopped in the vocal room and together, recorded the lyrics, ‘over again, never be all yours.’ Creating this part of the song is one of my favorite memories of being a musician.”

TUTV: Totally captivating. This goosebumps power ballad grabs your aural intention
right away. The contrasting vocals create an echoing intenseness fueled by incandescent guitars. The build up/break down vehemence feels as if an emotional eruption is about to happen any second, but instead we get a surprising choir-like finale and an abrupt end.

Fascinating.

________________________________________________________________________________________________

10. ‘Wounded’ by TODDY (Vancouver, Canada)

There are seemingly endless possibilities to self-expression, and Vancouver-based comedian and trained opera singer Toddy is out there breaking new ground. With a winning combination of drag, standup comedy, opera, classical and pop music, Toddy (she/they) is redefining the very idea of pop stardom.

Debut single, “Wounded,” is very strategically written to be for several different types
of relationships whether it be family, romantic or friendship. Inspired by abusive relationships Toddy has been in, they wanted a wide variety of victims to be able to
put themselves into this song.

TUTV: Toddy‘s heart-and-soul touching voice stands out on this stunning debut. Wounded is an arresting piece of melodrama that stirs and arouses feverish sentiments. Impressive, artistic introduction.

2. ‘Lights Down Low’ by DIE SEXUAL (Los Angeles)

Die Sexual is a Los Angeles-based dark electronic duo, that conjure their influences
of EBM, techno and electropop, their sound is an intoxicating mix of analog synthetics and seductive vocals, touching on themes of desire and despair, domination and submission.

Bang-on.

3. ‘Horrors Of Your Hometown‘ by KISS BANG (Los Angeles)

It’s this Los Angeles duo’s – Kaya Stewart and Max Mercier – very first
track and is part of their upcoming debut EP, out on March 15.

Stewart: “From the minute we met we knew that we were musically kindred spirits. I think
we both have qualities in our own music that make us so individual and unique, and working together created a sound that neither of us had ever heard before, but felt so true to who we were.”

Mercier: “Kiss Bang is the biggest blessing for me as it allows me to create outside of the strict mental confines I set for myself when making music. Kaya’s music taste spans all genres and eras just like mine and she has an incredible ability to extract different sounds out of me. It’s super inspiring.”

‘Horrors Of Your Hometown’ is a revved-up electro-pop stomper peppered with sensuous power vocals and a sultry, catching chorus. Enough fuel to energize your limbs on the spot and get you going for the rest of the day.

5. ‘Phase’ by KERRIGAN BARRY (Cleveland, Ohio)

Raw, real, and unapologetically reckless, Kerrigan Barry was born with a fire in her heart, stoked by rock ‘n’ roll in her bones. This Cleveland, Ohio native (now living in Nashville) found catharsis and truth in writing lyrics and melodies after watching Bruce Springsteen
& The E Street Band
live as a 5-year-old kid. She began her lifelong love affair with music earlier than most. It has since proven to be the most beautifully intoxicating relationship she ever imagined experiencing.

New single Phase takes us back to the sounds of early 2000s teenage
nostalgia, giving us the modern Avril Lavinge fantasy we’ve always wanted.

It’s a bouncy, lively, rhapsodic and temperamental
forth-and-back rollin’ ripper. Inflammable stuff.

Here we go.

6. ‘Two For His Heels’ by RICHARD HAWLEY (UK)

Press photo by 📸: Dean Chalkley

British gloomy songsmith delivers his 10th full-length,
named In This City They Call You Love on May 31st.

The album’s title is taken from the song ‘People’, which might well be the greatest song Hawley has written about his beloved Sheffield, the city’s proud industrial past and the enduring determination of its citizens.

Hawley: “I’ve made three albums where I had the title before I’d even begun to record,
where I had an agenda. One was Truelove’s Gutter. Another was Standing At The Sky’s Edge when I wanted to turn everything up and make the music a lot more aggressive, and then this one. I wanted it to be multi-coloured in a way focusing on the voice and what voices can do together… I deliberately only played a handful of guitar solos to keep it focused on voices,
the song and space.”

Here’s the top-notch movin’ and groovin’ taster, called Two For His Heels.

________________________________________________________________________________________________

7. ‘Just Sayin’ by GAME CHANGER (Canada)

8-bit pop sounds like.

“The song is about overcoming the curveballs that life can throw at you; that there are many new and different things that can weigh you down, and it’s up to you to cut the cord and go with it.”

Whistle, hum and/or sing along right here.

15th full-length. It’s baptized The Other Side and shows up on April 19.

The first single Waiting For You features backing vocals by female duo Lucius.
It’s a vintage romantic, yearning, bittersweet, sentimental and good old love
ballad.

Magnificent.

TRACK-BY-TRACK

1. ‘Eat It And Beat It’ by SHEER MAG (Philadelphia)

Philly‘s garage punks SHEER MAG launch their 4th album, titled
Playing Favorites on March 1. And they keep on throwing new tracks
off it around. The 4th one is named EAT IT AND BEAT IT, a raw rocker
that rattles and rolls all the way. Hail hail.

Sheer Mag: “‘Eat And Beat It’ is an anthem for the next generation. The legacy acts that we grew up admiring and styling ourselves after aren’t going to be around forever, and nor should they be. It’s high time for a new cohort to take over and carry the torch for rock and roll in the 21st century.”

Go.

2. ‘Velveteen’ by OLIVER HOHLBRUGGER feat. Pal Jackman (Norway)

Oliver Hohlbrugger is a Norwegian singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and
producer who carves out his own high energy 60’s pronto-punk/psychedelic pop.

He obviously has a very hot spot for the jangly side of legends The Velvet Underground.
His velveteen VU tribute is part of his new, upcoming album ‘Nothing’s Changed Everything Is New’ to be released digitally and on vinyl on 19 April 2024 via REVIR / Moon Flower Music.

The track is an intoxicating psych jam that goes on like forever. High-energetic electricity.

Run Run Run

3. ‘Mindcave’ by DREAMWAVE (Bristol, UK)

‘Mindcave’ was heavily inspired by FrodoBagg ins’ harrowing escape through the labyrinthine tunnels of Shelob’s Lair, home to the giant spider in ‘Lord of the Rings’.
Its frantic tempo mirrors the panic of the chase, underscored by the haunting lines”
Gravity apparates, and breaks in the depths of the cavity.

These steamrolling Brits go fast-forward with no brakes nor breaks. It’s like if
a whole army of guitars try to crush your ears, assisted by distressed vocals.
Glorious. Striking stroke.

Let’s roll.

4. ‘Cross Your Fingers’ by THE BLACK CROWES (USA)

Press photo

The brothers Robinson return with their 9th LP, called Happiness Bastards on March 15.
They still do what they did their whole career, playing vintage old-school blues-rock with flaming brio.

________________________________________________________________________________________________

5. ‘Selling Lies’ by STEFSKI & HUTCH (Paris/Warsaw)

📸Antek Bogacki, via Decent Music Pr

Stefski & Hutch is a rock band founded in 2016 by a songwriter born in Paris and
a guitarist, composer and producer from Warsaw. New cooking Selling Lies, is a protest song addressing the confusion resulting from the flood of information and disinformation.

No, they’re not the legendary glamorous detective duo. They’re a high-voltage
tandem that combines hard-rock riffs with garage-punk gusto. And the candescent
telling lies chorus completes the sharp-cutting fake news message.

Check-in.

6. ‘Gen-X Cops’ by VAMPIRE WEEKEND (NYC)

Press photo

Back in town. VV share their upcoming, fifth LP,
titled Only God W with planet Earth on April 5.

One of the two dropped tracks is this elevating pop injection.

.
________________________________________________________________________________________________

7. ‘Hungry Moon’ by GLAS (Denmark)

Lisbet Fritze and Louise Foo have shared artistic trajectories for half of their lives. As Glas, the duo reveals a patchwork of everyday observations rooted in significant life changes while their alternative pop sounds convey a quest for balance, riding the line between doomy drama and playing it cool.

New piece Hungry Moon “raises the impossible questions about the well-being of our planet, addressing big-scale frustrations while simultaneously delving into human feelings of big dreams, loss and insufficiency. Musically, we also wanted to create a duality with two distinct vocal parts. Almost like a duet between night and day. In one, dreamy vocals are interwoven into a fabric of layered guitars, creating a chant. In contrast, the other features a groovy, spacious arrangement with dry vocals.”

Hungry Moon mesmerizes and magnetizes with its part ghostly, part crystalline vocals,
its shoegazy dreamy feel and its moony atmosphere. Beguiling and compelling.

8. ‘I’m A Man’ by KIM GORDON (US)

(photo by Turn Up The Volume)

As announced a couple of weeks ago Gordon has bagged
her 2nd solo LP. It’s titled The Collective and it’ll land
on March 8.

Second single I’m A Man is a slo-mo industrial shocker with Gordon‘s
spoken-word vocality adding a cold-blooded perturbation.

Listen/watch.

9. ‘Smack Water’ by JACK MANLEY (NYC)

Hudson Valley-based singer-songwriter Jack Manley gears up for his upcoming
debut EP Unmeasurable Terms, out on May 10. Pre-order info here.

Smack Water is a “relaxed yet aggressive vibe—I wanted this song to have
a lot of space and attitude with moments of distortion, swells and feedback,
so that it raises the stakes as the tune progresses.”

I hear echoes of the late great Alex Chilton. Jangly and rousing, soothing and
entrancing with commanding vocals. An electrical and melancholic thrill.

Play.

10. ‘New’ by LUNAR PATHS feat. Ben Keaton (Chicago)

Veterans of the original UK northern goth scene, Lunar Paths are a transatlantic musical duo. With memorable hooks woven through intricate, powerful percussion, laced together with haunting vocals, their eclectic sound shares traits with goth & alternative indie artistes.

New is a psychedelic and darkwavish slo-mo trip with a trancy effect.
Its glowing, shadowy The Cure-like guitar radiance and its hallucinatory
female/male vocals lead to an eerie experience. Intriguing stuff.

1. ‘When The Laughter Stops‘ by YARD ACT (UK)

Press photo

British indie rockers Yard Act shot to the indie top like a comet,
last year with their superb debut long-player The Overload.

They decided to keep the celebrity moment going. Their second LP, baptized
Where’s My Utopia
will show up on 1 March. This new single features Kate J
Pearson
on vocals.

Let’s roll.

________________________________________________________________________________________________

2. ‘Someday’ by THE PETAL FALLS (UK)

Someday’ is the newest single of this English act’s 4th album, titled ‘The Rhythm Train‘.

It’s a stellar guitar-synth pop-rock slice of music.
Totally infectious, anthemic and spiced with vivid
vocals and a mighty chorus.

Listen up.

.
________________________________________________________________________________________________

3. ’21’ by BAD PONY (Australia)

21 tells us the complicated story of an old flame of frontman Jarred Young.

15 years and a not insignificant amount of therapy later, Young turns his gaze
back on that period of time with a sense of closure and resolution, and a degree
of compassion for his past self.

21 sounds like NYC darlings Vampire Weekend on a roll with jangly
guitars, a firm drum/bass collaboration, eager vocals, and a rad chorus.

“Nostalgia: Friend or foe? Probably both tbh

4. ‘Aphrodite’ by DONNA BLUE (The Netherlands)

Aphrodite is a piece from this Dutch duo’s second album Into The Realm Of Love
which lands on 8 March. “A duet written as a sort of myth”, is about a man trying
to prove his worth to a woman who Is only interested in what he can do for her.

If you never heard of 60s glam-pop duo Nancy Sinatra & Lee Hazzlewood you’ll
have a crystal clear idea of those sensual stars when Donna Blue lands on your
earphones with this seductive, idyllic and alluring tune. Fanciful voices, Chris Isaak-like guitar play, and a glowing 60s Hammond-sounding organ are beautifully interwoven,
with a bittersweet pop pearl as the final result.

Watch/listen.

5. ‘Texas Hold Em’ by BEYONCE (US)

Last night at the Super Bowl game a Beyoncé commercial was screened announcing her new album Act II, the sequel to her 2022 album Renaissance. It’s out on March 29. And today the giga star dropped 2 new tracks, with earworm Texas Hold ‘Em as one of the two.

Yep, Beyoncé goes country.

6. ‘All The Love We Bring’ by THE GOODIES (San Diego)

California reggae/rock/soul band The Goodies founded/led by Justin Goodman (“Goodie”) and Zan, launched their self-titled, 6-track Debut EP last week with ‘All The Love We Bring’
as the focus track.

Goodman: “It’s a liberating song about how at the end of the day, love is really all we have to give and receive. It’s upbeat and to the point incorporating Reggae, Dub, rock, and soul. “All the Love We Bring” is a song for the people who suffer at the expense of the elite, intended to set us all free!”

Stimulating tunes like this elevating one are always welcome on my headphones, in these anxious and disturbed times. Its sunlit melodiousness, reggae vibrations, sprightly vocals and hip-shaking chorus will put a big smile on your face.

Dance around.

7. ‘Oh Hi’ by CROWDED HOUSE (New Zealand)

The New Zealand celebs are coming and going and coming
back again (1985–1996, 2006–2011, 2016, 2019–present).

The band’s orchestrator Neil Finn already shared a demo of this song
a couple years ago, and it’s inspired by his work with the non-profit
organization So They Can, which builds schools in Kenya and Tanzania.

“I’m hoping the song comes across without needing to know the backstory.
But it’s very much inspired by these incredible kids and their magnificence.”

HO HI is a glorious sing/hum/whistle along pop
ditty with joyful choir harmonies on the chorus.

Enjoy.

8. ‘Silent Solitude’ by AVES feat. Markus Perttula (Finland)

This Finnish three-piece launch their debut album Transformations
on 22 March via Kieku Records.

“Being present means embracing the current moment, allowing yourself to disconnect from distractions and fully engage with what’s happening now. It involves focusing on what truly matters, letting go of unnecessary worries or minor details that might cloud your perception. Ultimately, it’s recognizing that in the grand scheme of things, many of the small stressors or concerns fade away when we prioritise the present and cherish what’s essential in our lives.”

This quixotic synth-pop piece invites you to live in the moment. Silent Solitude attracts with its ongoing dance groove, its sticky beats, and its utopian vocals. Sonic food for blue-sky daydreamers.

Press play.

9. ‘Vuja De’ by LOVETTA (Canada)

‘Vuja De’ flips the words “déjà vu,” delving into the essence of Lovetta’s breakup song.
It takes you on a journey of something or someone once familiar feeling strange and unfamiliar, echoing the universal ebb and flow of relationships.

This haunting tune driven by an entrancing, rotating riff and Lovetta’s emotive vocals
draw your aural attention from start to finish. Its tantalizing flow works like a magnet. Irresistible.

3. ‘On The Road’ by BAD RITUAL

Bad Ritual is a Polish trio formed at the beginning of 2020 by three architects.
They play songs immersed in a dark and unsettling atmosphere. Their music is
a blend of indie-folk, swampy blues, and rock ‘n’ roll. It often evokes associations
with David Lynch‘s films, spaghetti westerns, and film noir.

They just released their arresting self-titled debut album. Stream it here.

Standout track On The Road gets you in Bad Ritual‘s sonic/cinematic world. It’s melancholic timbre and shiny guitar sparks, make me think of romantic glam legend Chris Isaak. Bad Ritual‘s idol David Lynch directed Isaak‘s Wicked Game video that featured flashes from
his 1990 Wild At Heart movie).

Press play, get puzzled.

.

4. ‘Stars Spangling’ by LATO

Lato is a three-piece act from Italy that brings together different influences blending them into an original form of rock. Vocals, guitars and rhythm section carefully entwine with a touch of electronica, and ethnic vibes go hand in hand with a natural propensity for psychedelia.

Stars Spangling is a piece from their new, upcoming album Karisma, out on 29 February.
It’s an impassioned guitar-pop gem. Arousing, transfixing, and anthemic. Top-tier score.

8. ‘Impetus’ by CEREMONY SHADOWS

Portland‘s dark-dance-wave trio say about their new single Impetus: “While creating this track, we all pushed our creative boundaries to write a song that reflects our desire to grow

Impetus is a sensual mid-tempo electro tease that creeps under your skin
without asking. Seductive, flirtatious and tempting. Dim the light and move
in mysterious ways.

Right here.

its towering chorus, and Farrell‘s distinctive, absorbing vocals.

Enjoy.

New track: INTO THE LIGHT
Piece from her upcoming 4th album, named ‘The Glass Dress and a Ringing Bell’
and will land on 8 March via Sukie Smith’s own label Shillingboy Records.

A song about leaving a turbulent relationship Smith found herself trapped in during lockdown, as Smith succinctly says, “I wrote this, then escaped,” with its focus a celebration of the jubilation felt in newfound freedom and the liberation found in the enlightening processes of recovery.

Into The Light grooves and moves pushed by dynamic eurythmics from the get-go and keeps on cruising throughout its ablaze 3.07-minute duration. Glowing jingle-jangle guitar play, rock-solid drumming and Smith‘s impassioned vocals combine for a striking juggernaut. Top-tier score.

Track: ARKANSAS
From their brand new EP Hey You!

Arkansas is my ears’ favorite track. It rocks, it rolls, and it rattles with
vivid vehemence, fueled by greedy guitars, a robust drum/bass duo and
firm vocality. Bang-on.

Band: OPINION

Who: It’s the pseudonym under which French musician Hugo Carmouze chose to release his solo albums at the age of 13, marking the ordinary chapter of a garage rock fan born into the internet generation… Well, not quite, as the young Occitan has never stopped producing an impressive number of albums since, reminiscent of his great master Ty Segall.

Track: HYPERGLAM
Piece from upcoming album
Horrible, out 23 February.

Grungy chaos, glammy disturbance, fuzz and buzz stir.
Yep, Ty Segall would like this riff-ripper.

Infamous British misfits FAT WHITE FAMILY have their
4th longplayer out on 26 April.

Second eerie single BULLET OF DIGNITY sounds like FWF have

Doom and gloom.

The British folk-pop sisters THE STAVES release
their 4th LP, baptized All Now on 22 March.

I DON’T SAY, BUT I FEEL IT is the 3rd taster.

“The song came from a train-ride down to Brighton with friends with the scenery whizzing
by the transient flashes as things come in and out of focus. It is built around this two-chord pattern that kind of chugs along and motors through, picking out these jolts of feeling or memory that rush by.”

Totally entertaining.

Who: Singer-songwriter from
Cardiff, Wales

New single: MURMURATIONS

Isn’t it wondrous that it only takes a spellbinding voice, an acoustic
guitar and a tantalizing tune can combine for a delightful aural
experience.

This is what happens here. Grinter enthralls and enchants
with this melodic lullaby flavored with crystalline harmonies.

Wondrous, indeed.
