A tribute album to the late great glam rock icon Marc Bolan and his legendary
band T. Rex. The tribute was put together by producer Hal Willner who sadly
passed away on 7 April from coronavirus, only 64.

Released: 4 September 2020

Willner about this project: “I became immersed in this artist by listening to everything,
talking to Bolan experts and fans, researching his reviews and interviews. And I found that Bolan was hardly ever talked about as a ‘composer’. It was all about what a great rocker
he was, how innovative he was. I put him in the same pantheon as other composers that
I’ve explored before. So, the concept for the album became to show Bolan as a composer
with our typical cast of artists from different worlds that one rarely sees in the same place.”

JOAN JETT Loves Glam And Glitter Rock ‘N’ Roll – Here’s Her Cover Of Classic Cracker ‘JEEPSTER’ By T.REX

16 July 2020

AngelHeaded Hipster: The Songs Of Marc Bolan And T. Rex is a tribute compilation project realized by the late Saturday Night Live music producer Hal Willner who spent years working on it with several big names covering T.REX songs, the immensely popular and influential (then and now) 60s glam act led by the great, late rock icon Marc Bolan.

The compilation features Nick Cave, Devendra Banhart, Father John Misty, Perry Farrell, Lucinda Williams, and U2 with Elton John and several other stars. The release was announced in April, a few weeks after,  Willner died, unfortunately, of coronavirus.

JOAN JETT also picked a T.Rex classic, 1971 hit JEEPSTER. Her version is faithful to the original. Pretty cool, but I wished she had injected the jangly glam and glitter jingle with some ‘I Love Rock ‘N’ Roll’ energy, black leather swagger, and tons of guitar decibels. But
she didn’t phone me for advice, so here’s what she wanted to do…
