Iconing pop-rock celebrities QUEEN filmed the video for huge hit
I WANT TO BREAK FREE (more than 205 million streams on Spotify)
on this day in 1984.

Directed by David Mallet, it was a parody of the British soap Coronation Street
with the band members dressed in drag. Guitarist Brian May later said the video
ruined the band in America and was initially banned by MTV in the US.

C’mon, ladies, break free.

THE CURE With ‘PICTURES OF YOU’ – This Day In 1990

Pictures Of You is an epic standout single by goth
icons THE CURE from their 1989 album Disintegration.

It was released 33 years ago, on 19 March 1990, ago as
the 4th single of that mega successful LP, their eight LP.
The inspiration for this classic came when a fire broke loose
in Robert Smith‘s home. After that day, Smith was going
through the remains and came across his wallet which
had pictures of his wife, Mary.

SHAM 69 With Punk Anthem ‘IF THE KIDS ARE UNITED’ In 1978

Band: SHAM 69
Who: Rough pub punks from Hersham, Surrey, England, led by dynamite
vocalist Jimmy Pursey who fabricated several hit chants between 1975-1980.
They reunited in 1987. Pursey left in 2006.

Their massive scream-along hit IF THE KIDS ARE UNITED
was a classic punk anthem and would a good idea to reissue it this year. Unity is the only answer to get us all through the daily BS.

‘OCEAN RAIN’ By ECHO & THE BUNNYMEN On THE TUBE In 1983

Liverpool’s heroes ECHO & THE BUNNYMEN wrote/recorded
one of the best ballads ever in music history with magical gem
OCEAN RAIN, the title track of their 1984 magnum opus.

The live rendition of this diamond on British legendary music TV Show
The Tube (1982-1987) on 16 December 1983 is vintage Bunnymen with
big mouth Ian McCulloch doing what he did/does all his life. Singing cool,
performing cool and looking cool.

Band: D.A.F. (Deutsch Amerikanische Freundschaft)

Who: An infamous electropunk/Neue Deutsche Welle quartet formed
in 1978 in Düsseldorf. In 1981 it became a duo with the two founders
Gabriel “Gabi” Delgado-López (vocals) and Robert Görl (drums, percussion,
electronic instruments). Delgado-Lopez passed away in 2020, only 61.

(a double one) from 1992.

The accompanying culture sluts video clip still is as fab as the day
it came out, featuring the late Richey Edwards who disappeared
mysteriously in 1995. Still sorely missed. R.I.P.
