DEVO Played Their Tiny Desk Concert Last Week

14 August 2024

NPR Music is a project of National Public Radio, an American privately and
publicly funded non-profit membership media organization, that was launched
in November 2007 to present public radio music programming and original
editorial content for music discovery.

In 2008 the network started Tiny Desk Concerts which grow slowly but surely
into wide-known-watched, mini events where countless alt artists/bands have
passed the revue.

Post-punk weirdos – for 41 years now – DEVO did their thing in the by now familiar
(for music junkies) small place (4 songs) last week. They don’t like weird any more,
but still have fun, and perform with ardency and satisfaction.

SONGS

“It Takes a Worried Man”
“Blockhead”

SNÕÕPER – Supersonic Nashville Punks Rip DEVO To Shreds In Just 50 Seconds

Daily noise that works faster than a stream of caffeine

27 May 2024

SNÕÕPER, the 5-piece trash-and-slash pop-punk squad from Nashville, TN
unleashed their unbridled debut LP Super Snõõper last summer. A peppy
blitzkrieg punk record. 14 songs in 22 minutes, like in the good old Ramones
days.

Last March they dropped their first music of 2024 with
riot-gun rant On Line that lasted for only 73 seconds.

And they go even shorter on a cover of an unreleased Devo track that they
only played live. It’s called I Think I’m Falling In Luv Again. Snõõper rip it to
shreds in just 50 seconds.

A couple of eye/ear blinks and it’s over.

Gerard Casala (vocalist/guitarist): “In the past this information has been suppressed. But now it can be told. Come celebrate 50 years of De-evolution with a mind-blowing, 50th Anniversary box set from Devo.”

Mark Mothersbaugh (keyboardist/producer): “This box set represents a great cross section of early experiments and later creations. I was looking to create a new sound, a concept in art and music that represented a new way of thinking about life on planet earth. With Devo, I think we did just that. Farewell to the first 50, Let’s get the next 50 started!”

‘JOCKO HOMO’ by DEVO – 1978

23 March 2023

Band: DEVO
Active: 1973–1991, 1996–present
Albums: 9 – with Something For Everybody
as the most recent one (2010).

Track/clip: JOCKO HOMO
From their 1978 debut LP
Q. Are We Not Men? A: We Are Devo!

The song introduced the call-and-response “Are we not men?” / “We are Devo!” and
took its title from a 1924 anti-evolution tract called Jocko Homo Heavenbound
by Bertram Henry Shadduck, where it is explained as meaning ape-man.

In the video, Devo collaborator  Mark Mothersbaugh plays a professor, lecturing
to a class of students in surgical masks, caps, and 3-D glasses. As the song progresses,
the class begins to riot.

Roll the tape.
