Wake Up Lovers, It’s VALENTINE’s DAY With Chicago’s Indies HORSEGIRL
Daily noise that works faster than a stream of caffeine
3 female indies from Chicago got together in 2019, formed a band, named themselves HORSEGIRL, launched their debut album Versions Of Modern Performance, stuffed with simple, but very effective jangly pop tunes and generated lots of critical acclaim and fans with it.
Today they release their second longplayer, called PHONETICS ON AND ON.
NME says: “The Chicago band strip back the layers – sonically and lyrically – as they
continue to discover their own sound and voice… ‘Phonetics On And On’, works because
of its lack of pretensions and its back-to-basics spirit. Second time around, Horsegirl are
still recasting past greats in their own vision but finding more of themselves as they go.”

It’s deadpan lead single 2468 (no, not a cover of British punk rockers Tom Robinson
Band‘s 1977 hit 2-4-6-8 Motorway) is my 2025 Valentine’s song. I know, it’s weird, it’s whimsical, it’s comical, and that’s exactly why I like it instead of your next average,
sugary, slimy love song.
Wake up all you lovers out there (and me right here)
and surprise one another with this teasting tune.
