Burnout Album ‘KID A’ By RADIOHEAD Is 25 Today

Signifcant longplayers from yesteryear

2 October 2025

RADIOHEAD released their fourth LP KID A
this day 25 years ago, on 2 October 2000.

The band incorporated influences from electronic music, krautrock, jazz and
20th-century classical music, with a wider range of instruments and all sorts
of effects. Yorke wrote impersonal and abstract lyrics, cutting up phrases
and assembling them at random.

Following the critical and commercial success of their 1997 album
OK Computer, the members of Radiohead suffered burnout.

Thom Yorke became ill, describing himself as
a complete fucking mess, completely unhinged“.

Pitchfork wrote: “The experience and emotions tied to listening to Kid A
are like witnessing the stillborn birth of a child while simultaneously having
the opportunity to see her play in the afterlife on Imax. It’s an album of
parking paradox.

It’s cacophonous yet tranquil, experimental yet familiar, foreign yet womb-like,
spacious yet visceral, textured yet vaporous, awakening yet dreamlike, infinite
yet 48 minutes.”

Thom Yorke: “We toyed with the idea of making it a double album,
but I think that would only have confused everybody even more, so
we decided to stick with the songs we picked.”

MERCY LAND – New Orleans’ Electro Pop Duo Debuts With Radiant Spark Single ‘KID A’

20 May 2025

Artists: MERCY LAND
Who: Musicians Laura Jinn and Tatum Gale, starcrossed lovers chasing a crumbling dream. They make darkwave, dreampop, and alternative dance with their hearts on their sleeves and their eyes to the heavens. They tap into mall goth sarcasm and the American tradition of gambling it all away without losing sight of a cherished, ever-burning romantic optimism.

Track: KID A
Their debut single and first piece
of their upcoming Termites EP.

TUTV: Kid A is a glittery electro pop stimulant that works effectively on the spot. A titillating tune that boost your mood in an eye/ear blink. Charming duet vocals augment the easygoing sonic tone, while sparkling synths radiate brighter than Spring sun. Way to go.

“I did it all for you
I wrote this song for you
And when it all turned blue
It was really night and day
I’m chasing shadows on the wall and you’re walking
Walking away”

Amazing Artwork! RADIOHEAD With Lots Of Stuff For Anniversaries Of ‘KID A’ And ‘AMNESIAC’

23 September 2021

Record labels love anniversaries of albums. Then they can offer the fans of the artists special stuff, mostly for expensive prices as the number of copies/pressings are – in
most cases – limited. I rather look at the format/artwork that’s presented.

This time RADIOHEAD has a lot to offer. Their two experimental electro LPs – Kid A
and Amnesiac – were released, respectively on 2 October 2000 and 30 May 2001. The
label decided two put the twin records together in an 20th-anniversary special titled
KID A MNESIA. All stuff (save for the third item, has already sold out) is available on
5 November 2021.

Here’s what’s in store…

Burnout Album ‘KID A’ By RADIOHEAD Is 20 Today

2 October 2020

Band: RADIOHEAD
Album: KID A – fourth LP
Released: 2 October 2000 – 20 years ago today

Pitchfork wrote: “The experience and emotions tied to listening to Kid A are like witnessing the stillborn birth of a child while simultaneously having the opportunity to see her play in the afterlife on Imax. It’s an album of sparking paradox. It’s cacophonous yet tranquil, experimental yet familiar, foreign yet womb-like, spacious yet visceral, textured yet vaporous, awakening yet dreamlike, infinite yet 48 minutes. It will cleanse your brain of those little crustaceans of worries and inferior albums clinging inside the fold of your gray matter. The harrowing sounds hit from unseen angles and emanate with inhuman genesis. When the headphones peel off, and it occurs that six men (Nigel Godrich included) created this, it’s clear that Radiohead must be the greatest band alive, if not the best since you know who. Breathing people made this record! And you can’t wait to dive back in and try to prove that wrong over and over.
Full review here. Score: 10/10.

Thom Yorke: “We toyed with the idea of making it a double album, but I think that would
only have confused everybody even more, so we decided to stick with the songs we picked.”

Turn Up The Volume: “‘Kid A’, and his brother ‘Amnesiac’, was the result of a burnout after the global success of ‘OK Computer’. I’m still waiting for the next burnout.”
