MUSIC DECLARES EMERGENCY is a group of artists, music
industry professionals and organisations who believe that…
MUSIC, MUSICIANS AND MUSIC BUSINESSES, THROUGH THEIR UNIQUE CULTURAL AND ECONOMIC POWER, CAN LEAD THE WAY IN DEMANDING THE SYSTEMIC CHANGES REQUIRED TO SECURE ALL LIFE ON EARTH.
MDE has now launched its US initiative with support from artists who are passionate about the climate crisis, with artists including Billie Eilish, Bon Iver, Arcade Fire and Brian Eno supporting the cause and many more join on a daily basis.
Initially started in the UK in 2019, MDE is now also operational in France, Germany, Switzerland, Chile and Canada. It’s gathered over 6000 signatures from across the music industry supporting a declaration that calls for an immediate governmental response to do more to combat climate change.
In a new statement, MDE said: “Now, more than ever is the time for the United States to loudly and proactively join the rally to curb and reverse greenhouse gas emissions. The climate crisis is the greatest challenge of our time, and the power of music should take its place at the forefront of this important movement to create a safer, fairer, more sustainable world. The climate crisis is about science, not politics. There is #NOMUSICONADEADPLANET.
Chrissie Hynde: “This declaration needs to be the moment where music steps up and really pushes the truth to our audiences and confronts governments so that things happen much more quickly.”
