PERFUME GENIUS Entrances Once Again With His New Orchestral Torch Songs LP ‘GLORY’

31 March 2025

Artist: PERFUME GENIUS
Who: Iowa-born, L.A.-based singer-songwriter,
born Michael Alden Hadreas, 43 years ago.

Album: GLORY
His 7th one.

The Guardian: “Glory was intentionally written as a group effort and sounds like it,
with Hadreas, now based in LA, and his longtime collaborator and partner, the multi-instrumentalist Alan Wyffels… For all the sombre maturity often shrouding this record,
it’s full of energy and biting nuance. The vigour of Hadreas’s lyrics once again confirms
Perfume Genius as a consummate chronicler of 21st-century sensuality.”

TUTV: Perfume Genius is one of a rare kind of emotive, evocative and expressive songsmiths/performers that always open their heart and soul, grab your aural
attention and make you listen, very closely.

Glory is another glorious accomplishment, one of his absorbing best with several orchestral torch songs that drown out all surrounding noise and drags you into
an utopian space. Entrancing all the way.

COCOROSIE – Wayward Theatrical Pop Sisters Excel Gloriously On New Album ‘LITTLE DEATH WISHES’

28 March 2025

📷 Kate Russell Photography

Artists: COCOROSIE

Who: American folktronica siblings Sierra Rose Rosie” and Bianca Leilani “Coco” Casady who have, for over 20 years now, transmuted the love, hardship, and ecstasy of sisterhood into some of the most daring, dangerous, and wildly original music our increasingly sanitized culture has known.

New album: LITTLE DEATH WISHES.
Their eight one.

Press info: “Little Death Wishes is as open and tenderhearted as anything they’ve ever created. The songs tell a kaleidoscopic story of the generational hardship of women and the shattered realities of their lives, the precarious and precious nature of being human, of being done wrong by love, and a final wish to be unbroken. It boils everything CocoRosie down to its most brutal essence: turning pain into knowledge, sisterhood into polemic, trash into treasure, and recalcifying kitsch and cliché into fresh truths.”

TUTV: Sierra and Bianca relive, musically and lyrically, being CocoRosie for
20 years and creating transfixing pop theatricality. They do it, as usual, in their own fascinating way, as if they are at the center of a melodramatic musical, with a vibrant variety of sonority – folk, pop, EBM, rap, R&B – and their unique voices as the record’s entertaining stars up front. Give it a couple of spins and discover this multi-faceted
opus in all its detailed glory.

THE HORRORS Take You On A Mood Swings Roller Coaster With New Album ‘NIGHT LIFE’

27 March 2025

Band: THE HORRORS
Who: Psychedelic synth-dark-wave dropouts from
London
. They will celebrate their 20th birthday
as a band next year (hard to believe).

New album: NIGHT LIFE
Their 1st in 7 years
and 6th overall.

New album artwork

Press info: Whilst the end results have changed, however, at their core has always
been the same unbending commitment and bloody-minded allegiance to the cause.

The Horrors are not and will never be a band that approach the job lightly. They’re musicians who’ll funnel everything they are into the process, at the expense of health, wealth and sometimes sanity. And so, whilst sixth album Night Life sees the band once more shapeshift into a new form, with a new sonic outlook and – this time – a new
line-up, in some ways The Horrors are still as they ever were.

NME‘s verdict: “Viewing their discography today, it’s as though The Horrors arrived
in the early hours, pushed on through the brightening stages of the day, through the
vibrant glory of the early evening and have now returned to the depths of the darkest
night. It feels like this is where they belong.”

TUTV: Their second, 2009 album Primary Colors is my favorite Horrors LP
in my book and in many others’ too. This new one will not change that fact.

Night Life is, sonically, an unbalanced affair. The band alternate soft, musing pieces with industrial outbursts. From dreamland to our messed-up times. It takes the rhythm out of the record way too much. On the other hand, you won’t find a bad track, and Silent Sister, Trial By Fire, and More Than Life are the stand-out ones.

MR BILLY FRITZGERALD – Irish Indie Pop Songsmith Organizes Funky Party On Debut Album ‘A GRAND ROMANTIC GESTURE’

24 March 2025

Artist: MR BILLY FRITZGERALD

Who: Dublin based singer-songwriter writing lush indie-pop songs that simultaneously bathe in the faded light of heartbreak while pulling you on to the dancefloor. Formerly
of Dublin alt-popsters The Dead Flags, when that band came to an end Billy made the conscious decision to take a step away from music.

After his self-imposed exile and following a long journey back, he gathered his array of drum machines, synths, a half-broken Micro Korg along with his acoustic guitar and an assortment of pedals and amps. This became the sonic palette he would use to begin crafting his new indie-pop sound, leaning into 80’s inspired sounds that rubbed shoulders with hip-hop tempos while juxtaposing the pain of heartbreak against sweet pop-centric vocal melodies.

Album: A GRAND ROMANTIC GESTURE

Press info: “The album’s title is representative of the story being told across the 10 songs. The album documents the experiences of a protagonist who has spent years in unlucky or poorly handled romantic entanglements, failing to learn from these then struggling to win over new romantic partners without ever addressing their own shortcomings.

Prioritising the romantic gesture over the honesty and work that go into a proper relationship. Immature and idealistic, he wants to win somebody over rather than
be vulnerable or honest. This image of a guy trying to find the right symbolic gesture rather than looking inward stuck with Billy and became the narrative of the album.”

TUTV: We know there are different ways to deal with post-relations traumas.
I really dig Fitzgerald’s remedy way. He throws a funky party, and knocks his
demons to the dancefloor. He rocks and rolls, moves and grooves, raps and
claps and twirls himself in a state of fuck you all rapture.

Except for the hopeful adn affective ballad Lovers he keeps the vivid vibrations going
with confident vitality and firm, healing vocality. I guess the message here is crystal clear.
If you’re in relational trouble, put Mr Billy on the stereo and tranquillise your heartache.

JAPANESE BREAKFAST Cause Relaxation With New Dreamy Pop Album ‘FOR MELANCHOLY BRUNETTES (& SAD WOMEN)’

21 March 2025

Album Artwork – 📸 Pak Bae & design by Min Chai Lee

Much lauded indie act JAPANESE BREAKFAST, fronted by vocalist, guitarist
and primary songwriter Michelle Zauner formed back in 2013 in Philadelphia.

Today, on the first day of spring they launched their brand new
4th LP, named FOR MELANCHOLY BRUNETTES (& SAD WOMEN) .

Press info: Produced by Grammy Award winner Blake Mills, the record sees Michelle Zauner pull back from the bright extroversion that defined its predecessor Jubilee to examine the darker waves that roil within, the moody, fecund field of melancholy, long held to be the psychic state of poets on the verge of inspiration.

The result is an artistic statement of purpose: a mature, intricate,
contemplative work that conjures the romantic thrill of a gothic novel.”

Zauner says the record is inspired by : “The record is ithe plight of Icarus
and other such condemned ones, where characters are taken through cycles
of temptation, transgression, and retribution.”

Rolling Stone: “For Melancholy Brunettes is an evolution of everything that came before — mixing and merging imagery both mythic and mundane with A-class instrumentation from the likes of Bob Dylan guitarist Blake Mills (who produced the record), legendary session drummer Jim Keltner, and vocals from actor Jeff Bridges on ‘Men In Bars’.”

TUTV: With Japanese Breakfast, you just can sit down, listen and let your thoughts
run free, far away from the depressing outside world. This new full-length creates
that imaginative, dreamy pop sentiment once again. Subtle, and oh-so-effective.

Orlando In Love, Little Girl, Picture Window and Men In Bars with, what a surprise, actor Jeff ‘The Dude’ Bridges in duet with Zauner, are my highlights, but it’s the overall relaxing and tranquillizing atmosphere that stands out. Brunettes is a cloud nine soundtrack to be consumed slowly.

VUNDABAR – Boston’s Psych Punks Score High-Voltage Triumph With Their 6th LP ‘SURGERY AND PLEASURE’

15 March 2025

Band: VUNDABAR
Who: Indie act from Boston who forged their sound in mythical underground
venues in the early 2010s. Musically, they meld post-punk, math-rock, surf-guitar,
jangle-pop and grunge scuzz into sharp, compact songs.

Album: Surgery And Pleasure
Their 6th one.

Paste Magazine says: “Hearing the loose, uneven ends of these 11 songs might raise suspicions that Vundabar were a pre-COVID anomaly, but the album still boasts not only
their oft-brilliant, angular guitar playing and odd, unpredictable vocal showings, but slow
signs of reinvention… This album doesn’t illustrate a band in disarray; they point towards
a renewal you can’t capture all of in just one pass.”
Full review here.

Album artwork

TUTV: On two occasions (I Need You / Why Is It So Hard To Say Goodbye?) these Boston gunslingers take it easy, but they’re at their stupendous best when they turn up the amps and let the beat and the heat do the talking. Nine rock-solid sucker-punches stand tall and lift this record to a ripping riff-insane level. Surgery And Pleasure is a high-voltage triumph.

BOB MOULD Still Rocks With Inflamed Intensity – Discover New Album ‘HERE WE GO CRAZY’ Here

10 March 2025

Artist: BOB MOULD
Who: Former Hüsker Dü frontman.

New Album: HERE WE GO CRAZY
His 15th solo one.

Mould about the album: “On the surface, this is a group of straightforward
guitar pop songs. I’m refining my primary sound and style through simplicity,
brevity, and clarity. Under the hood, there’s a number of contrasting themes:
Control and chaos, hypervigilance and helplessness, uncertainly and
unconditional love.”

Rolling Stone says: “It’s the sense of constant growth and accrued wisdom in these songs — the honest ambivalence mixed with desire mixed with dread mixed with hope — that makes them sink in.”

TUTV: At 64 an angry young man‘s fire is still burning in Mould‘s heart and soul.
Inflamingly passionate discharges dominate this hellacious record. Sometimes
too predictable in melodiousness and resonance.

Maybe therefore one of the rare slower ones, the instantly impactful Lost Or Stolen
stands out from the rest of the tunes. It reveals a mental Mould breakdown. Overall,
it’s quite clear that the former Hüsker Dü‘s guitarist/vocalist isn’t done yet, far from.

DARKSIDE – Electronic Experts Released Their New Spaced-Out And Reflective Album ‘NOTHING’

6 March 2025

Hello, guys

Band: DARKSIDE
Who: The lauded trio, featuring Chilean-American electro musician
Nicolas Jaar and Brooklyn multi-instrumentalist Dave Harrington.

Album: NOTHING
Their 3rd one.

Press info: This album slips through the cracks of convention with serpentine guitars, extraterrestrial static, and cavernous drums. Haunted rhythms, distorted vocals, and uncanny beauty. No band but Darkside could have made Nothing, and in no moment
but now. The outcome is magnetic and hieroglyphic.

Pitchfork:This isn’t an album about clearing one’s mind. It’s raw and frenetic,
a blistering and desperately beautiful soundtrack to the mounting chaos.”

TUTV: A varied work of synth-dominating atmospherics. At times spaced-out,
at times reflective and trancy. A left field, electronic score for ruminative
relaxation. Ideal headphones music.

ANDY BELL – Ride Bassist Offers Light-Hearted Vibes On 3rd Solo Album ‘PINBALL WANDERER’

4 March 2025

Artist: ANDY BELL
Who: Veteran musician best known as a member
of British shoegaze old-timers Ride and temporary
bassist for Oasis.

He recorded/released (so far) 7 longplayers, with
last year’s Interplay unquestionably their best.

Bell needs a space of his own and released a couple of
collaboratives and a couple of solo albums. And here’s
his brand new one, his 3rd, titled PINBALL WANDERER.

Press info: “The albums is an otherworldly collection of intergalactic wizardry that
mixes psychedelic melodies, Can-via-The Stone Roses grooves and Arthur Russell-style experimental textures.

With guest appearances from Dot Allison and Neu! legend Michael Rother on a cover of The Passions’ peerless post-punk classic ‘I’m In Love With A German Film Star’, it is perfect for both deep-listening headphones moments and cutting across the coolest, most understated dancefloors.”

AllMusic says: “The essence that Bell distills on Pinball Wanderer is one of happy
exploration, indeed wandering from one creative idea to the next with very little second guessing or restraint. If there are any unfinished thoughts or untidy loose ends in that approach, they’re easily outshined by the feeling of radiant joy that carries the album.”

TUTV: Bell, is as we known him for years now, a vivid vibe aficionado. He confirms
his appetite once again here with subtly funky and boogielicious jams. Think Madchester‘s rave and wave champions The Stones Roses. Glittering guitar rhythms, bouncy bass riffs, breezy synths and other psychedelic dynamics create a light-hearted ambiance for some
shadow dancing.

HEATHER NOVA Entices With Candlelight Pearls On Her 12th Album ‘BREATH AND AIR’

26 February 2025

British songstress HEATHER NOVA (born in Bermuda, 57 years ago) marks her 35th
year in music this year. She does it with her 12th longplayer, titled BREATH AND AIR.

It’s a charming collection of evocative candlelight pearls that are rich in melody, lyric and arrangement, with Heather’s signature vocal as strong and ethereal as ever. The album enfolds you in a timeless atmosphere; Inviting you to forget everything for a moment, while simultaneously coming home to yourself.

Heather wrote the songs over the past 2 years and spent 4 weeks in the Devon countryside in England holed up in an enchanting studio with Chris Bond (Ben Howard) putting down the tracks.

Nova: “It was mostly just the 2 of us, with Midori Jaeger coming down from London for
a few days to play her beautiful cello. Out the window was a field. I would watch the light change there throughout the day. There was a rare albino pheasant that would come and
go. I took it as a good sign!”

“As I get older I notice I have repeated patterns my whole life, even the ones that don’t serve
me. Thought patterns, relationship patterns. We repeat the cycles until we truly learn what our core wounds are and how to heal them. Songwriting in itself is a search for meaning and clarity about ourselves and the world we inhabit.”
