Libertine PETER DOHERTY Is Better Alive
20 June 2025
Since Doherty got clean (already several years) and living in France with his wife and big dog, far away from the temptations of party cities he became quite productive releasing albums with one-time outfit Puta Madres, with French musician Frédéric Lo and with his first-and-forever band The Libertines he scored one of the best albums of 2024 with
All Quiet On The Eastern Esplanade.
And he launched his 3rd solo LP, baptized
Felt Better Alive a month ago. An endearing
and alluring record for lazy moments.
The Independent (British newspaper) says: “These new songs are charming, callous,
witty, boorish, tender, transcendent and obnoxious by turns or all at once. Doherty remains
a charismatic scene evoker – even though you can’t follow the thread of all his tales, he still makes you feel you were there.”
Last Friday, he stopped in Brugge, Belgium, to play oldies and newbies (setlist below).
And it was special. Doherty and his acoustic guitar silenced the crowd for 90 minutes. People just watched and absorbed what the libertine had to offer. And it was a lot.
He entertained us as a professional busker with perky song arrangements, crystal clear vocals and some dry humor in-between. A mesmerizing non-rock evening for all, including himself.
Legend!
