JOHNNY CASH – Posthumous Album ‘AMERICA VI: AIN’T NO GRAVE’ Came Out 15 Years Ago Today

Reveries for the laziest day of the week

23 February 2025

On 23 February 2010, today 15 years ago JOHNNY CASH‘s (1932-2003)
album AMERICAN VI: AIN’T NO GRAVE was released posthumously.

The songs were recorded during the same sessions as American V: A Hundred Highways (2006), in the final months of Cash‘s life. His voice sounds weakened and vulnerable at
times.

The LP peaked at #3 on the US Billboard Chart, selling 54,000 copies in its first week. American VI was the first release in the American Recordings series to contain no re-recordings of previously released songs.

The Times (UK) said: “Most soulful performances on
American VI are invested in Nashville standards”

Nashville Country Star ASHLEY MCBRYDE Thinks That There ‘AIN’T ENOUGH COWBOY SONGS’

Reveries for the laziest day of the week

15 December 2024

Nashville-based country starASHLEY MCBRIDE (aged 41) has released
4 LPs so far with The Devil I Know as her most recent one (2023).

For the upcoming holidays the romantic Americana voice wrote a vintage,
sepia-coloured country ballad, called AIN’T ENOUGH COWBOY SONGS.

McBride: “This one was all about where we live and the genre we love and realizing that the horse I rode in on got put out to pasture. Instead of us saying, ‘Work ethic’s out the window, stick-to-it code’s pretty much dead and idealism is gone,’ it was easier to say that by saying there is no wild out west. That’s all gone.”

Don’t forget about the Indians, Ashley.

Last July the news of the passing New Zealand‘s indie hero
MARTIN PHILLIPS at the age of 61, was a real shocker.

Phillipps was the mastermind/voice/guitarist, and only
permanent member, of jangly-pop band THE CHILLS.

The band recorded/released 7 albums between 1987 and 2021.

Now, the group’s label Fire Records have announced the posthumous
album SPRING BOARD: THE EARLY UNRECORDED SONGS. It’ll feature
20 tracks and will be out on 28 Feb 2025. More info here.

Press info: “A dedicated reimagining of his earlier unreleased songs that became
his artistic farewell, a lasting legacy, and a reminder of his huge, underappreciated
talent. The album has been finalised for release with the love and support of his band,
family and friends.”

One of the songs is this lovely romantic gem,
IF THIS WORLD WAS MADE FOR ME.
