THE KILLS Live In A Green Park In ANTWERP – Vintage Blues Rock Fireworks
10 July 2025
Last year, in October, seminal blues-rock duo THE KILLS – Alison Mosshart
and Jamie Hince – released their 6th album, the first in 7 years, titled
GOD GAMES. One of 2024’s best.
.
The release was followed by a long tour that still rolls on.
Last Monday, the inseparable tandem played in a beautiful green park in Antwerp.
Instantly their olden goldie Kissy Kissy kick-off got the crowd going yeahhhhhhh and
nobody slowed down from there on.
After almost 25 years VV and Hotel (their early nicknames) know how to get everybody swaying their hips to their riff-roasting blues punk-rock fireworks. Mosshart‘s puissant voice and Hince‘s sinewy staccato guitar play still are a winning combination.
As usual Mosshart runs in circles between songs, adrenalized and pumped-up, and Hince pulls his six strings nimble-fingered creating their vintage raw ‘n’ rough boisterousness.
Oldies and newbies alternated in rapid succession (despite some technical guitar problems in between) but several of my Kills favorites (like Whirling Eye, The Last Goodbye, Wait, Fried My Little Brains, Love Is A Deserter and Nail In My Coffin) didn’t make the setlist.
To be honest, that was a bit of a downer. The first time ever, I left a Kills gig (and I have seen many) with mixed emotions. Yet, still big fun to have seen them performing once again.

Track: TRIUMPH
Jim Marson (singer/lyricist): “’Triumph’ is a rallying cry for anyone who feels stifled by
societal pressures. It’s an exploration of the tension between personal desires and the pressures of society. Societal norms can suffocate the younger generation, many of whom can feel out of place in a world that demands conformity. It questions the true cost of such conformity to our own potential and values.”

Band: BARBARISM
Who: 5-piece This Manchester five-piece have been wallowing in the glittery
sludge of late-stage capitalism. They have considered that maybe, just maybe,
we shouldn’t poison the earth and condemn half the population to misery in
order to meet the gurgling whims of several man-babies with yachts.
Track: TIL ZERO
‘Til Zero is a track about the endurance of the human spirit. Born out of years of pain watching as humanity staggers into the 21st century, these words celebrate the tenacity of the joy of life, and try to find some optimism in the face of despair and destitution. The track concludes by embracing the fact that even if the struggle for a better world is utterly fruitless, there is meaning in the attempt.
Amps up, guitars up, energy up. Til Zero is a jacked jackhammer, solid as
a rock, with out-of-control guitars, frenetic vocals, and an insane bass riff.
Bingo!

Band: DEREK SMITH & THE COSMIC VULTURES
Who: Captivating pop/rock outfit from Boston with
5 LPs under their belt. Check them out on Spotify
right here.
Track: SONGBIRD
“Songbird,” with its rolling propulsion and timeless charm, is a compass for compassion; it’s a way forward, through the highs and lows of life, softening the twists and turns and highlighting the good while snuffing out the bad. Its sound rings out as timeless as echoes of ‘70s AM radio gold canvas a yearning spectrum that soars through the songs that shaped us before touching down in the modern day.”
An Americana power ballad that bewitches, captivates, and triggers instant daydreaming.
Back in the days, lighters would turn on en masse when this kind of emotions-absorbing gem came out of the giant speakers at a concert.
Feel the passion here.

Band: POINTS
Who: Indie trio from the UK
Track: STEAL TO FEED
Rob Sanderson (vocals/bass) said: “From the moment we wrote the music, images of a getaway scene in a post-apocalyptic world came to mind, like in the films ‘The Book of Eli’ and ‘Mad Max’. With that, the song evolved into a futuristic Robin Hood story. The classic tale of stealing from the rich to give to the poor. It made me think how better off we could all be if we helped each other, and even if things are looking extremely bleak, there’s probably someone out there trying to make a difference in one way or another.”
Interpol-like guitars, non-stop vocal passion, forth and back progression.
Jump on this rough roller coaster and enjoy a high-powered ride.

Artist: CARLA AARKE
Who: Songstress from Helsinki
Track: Watercolour
This track also signals her forthcoming
full-length Things I Forgot to Tell You.
Aakre: “‘watercolour’ is an ode to friendship. Sometimes you need someone to remind
you of the beauty around you. With the help of friendship, even in difficult moments, you
can find something you want to cherish.”
Dream-pop at its seducing and entertaining best. watercolour moves swiftly and sensually, circling around magnetic guitar lines and propelled by foot-stomping drum drive, while Aarke‘s arresting vocals roll all over it. Top-drawer tune.

THE KILLS Have Endearing Acoustic 5-Track EP ‘HAPPIER GIRL SESSIONS’ Out
26 September 2024
Last year THE KILLS, singer Alison Mosshart and guitarist Jamie Hince,
scored one of the best 2023 albums (in my book) with God Games
Last weekend they launched a 5-track EP,
called HAPPIER GIRLS SESSIONS.
It was recorded at Grammy-winning producer Paul Epworth’s Church Studios in London.
The EP has a physical and digital released. A 7” vinyl features a soulful cover of Happier Than Ever’s titanic hit single ‘Happier Than Ever’ on the A-side and a new non-electric version of ‘My Girls My Girls’, a top piece from that album.
You can buy the 7″ here.
The digital EP features both aforementioned songs and acoustic versions
of three more God Games cuts: 103, New York and Better Days.
How can you not love Mosshart‘s room-filling, heart and soul voice.

THE KILLS Sound Happier Than Ever Covering BILLIE EILISH
18 September 2024
Blues-rock duo THE KILLS – vocalist Alison Mosshart and guitarist Jamie
Hince – released their excellent 6th full length God Games last October.
Some time ago they did an acoustic session for Sirius XM Radio. One of the songs
they played was a cover of massive Billie Eilish hit Happîer Than Ever (more than
1,3 billion streams on Spotify).
And now we get a bluesy, electric version.
Sounds like Eilish wrote it for Mosshart.
Mosshart: “It’s all Sirius XM’s fault. We were asked to do an acoustic session with them last year and they’d asked for a cover as part of the session. I’d always really dug “Happier Than Ever” and found myself singing it around the house all the time. After that radio session hit the airwaves, we were asked us to do an electric recording. Here we were in London, recording a non-electric EP, and what’s the first song on it? An electric cover of the acoustic cover we did… and the more electricity, the better. Thank you, Billie, for writing such a brilliant song.”

THE KILLS – Alison Mosshart And Jaimie Hince Played Godly Blues Rock Games In Brussels
11 May 2024
Last October iconic blues-rock duo THE KILLS – Alison Mosshart
and Jamie Hince – released their 6th LP, the first in 7 years, titled
GOD GAMES. One of 2024’s best.
TUTV wrote: “God Games features fewer fireworks than on previous LPs, but the pair still move and groove with sonic fervour and melodramatic tunes, as we know them. Sultry, delirious and passional. When Mosshart sings the blues, her heart-and-soul vocality draws all attention. Her tantalizing timbre and her midnight hour tone combined with Hince‘s edgy riffs and roasting hooks are what made me a Kills fan from day 1.”
Last Saturday, the duo landed in Brussels as part of their God Games tour. It was the first time since 2016 that we could enjoy their rad riff-rippin’ live force again. In an eye/ear blink Mosshart and Hince got the eager audience on their hands.
Stripped down to just the two of them (after touring with a full band the previous time) and a booming backing track the heat actually turned on the moment Hince hit his first burning chord and Mosshart swayed her hair in all directions and start howling in the micro. Charisma in motion, badass blues exaltation and godly tunes, this is what The Kills are about on stage. They still rule, hands down.
