It’s Already Five Years This Day Since Legend TOM PETTY Passed Away

2 October 2022

Five years ago today, on 2 October 2017, the pure all-around Americana (from Gamesville, Florida) rocker at heart TOM PETTY passed away following an accidental drug overdose.

He was only 66. With his band The Heartbreakers he made 13 studio LPs, solo
he canned 3 longplayers and he released two albums with supergroup Traveling Wilburys (Roy Orbison, Bob Dylan, George Harrison and Petty).

To remember the legend Turn Up The Volume picked 3 great Tom Petty moments.

TOM PETTY AND THE HEARTBREAKERS – New ‘LIVE AT THE FILLMORE 1997’ Album(s) Out In November

26 September 2022

The late TOM PETTY (already 5 years gone) and his HEARTBREAKERS played
no less then 20 nights at the legendary The Fillmore in San Francisco in 1997.

Six of the shows were professionally recorded and this special release features some of the high points of the residency. The small venue allowed the band to vary their sets each night. They included re-arranged and distinctive versions of their hits, deep cuts, and many cover versions – paying tribute to the artists that Tom and the band had been influenced by.

On 25 November a special live regsitration album(s) of great moments of said concerts, titled LIVE AT THE FILMORE – 1997 will make their millions of fans happy. More details and pre-order about the 6LPs/2CDs/4CDs formats HERE.

TOM PETTY & THE HEARTBREAKERS Released Self-Titled Debut LP 45 Years Ago Today

Back in time

10 November 2021

Band: TOM PETTY & THE HEARTBREAKERS (Florida, US)
Active: 1967-2017 / 13th studio LPs

Tom Petty passed away on 2 October 2017 following an
accidental drug overdose. He was only 66. Rest in peace.

Anniversary album: Self-titled debut LP
Released: 10 November 1976 – 45 years ago today

AllMusic says: “At the time Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers’ debut was
released in 1976, they were fresh enough to almost be considered punk.
They weren’t as reckless or visionary as the Ramones, but they shared a
similar love for pure ’60s rock and, for the Heartbreakers, that meant
embracing the Byrds as much as the Stones. And that’s pretty much what
this album is — tuneful jangle balanced by a tough garage swagger.”

Full review here. Score: 4.5/5.

Turn Up The Volume: Tom Petty was a pure all-around Americana
rocker at heart. Single Anything That’s Rock ‘N’ Roll is an
absolute classic in my book.
