‘WAKE UP THE NATION’ By PAUL WELLER Came Out 10 Years Ago…
Old and new albums to make your day…
19 April 2020
The imperishable Modfaher PAUL WELLER released his tenth album WAKE UP THE NATION, on 19 April 2010, ten years ago. One of his best works in my book. A return to brilliant form with Weller as greedy, fervent and angry as in his good old days, showing
he’s still committed and caring. The record, no fillers all killers, inspired him to make another duo of impressive follow-up LPs Sonik Kicks (2012) and Saturns Pattern (2015).
The album features contributions from Bruce Foxton, former bassist of legendary band
The Jam. Weller said about the new collaboration: “We’d both lost loved ones and without getting too spiritual that was the spur of it. I spoke to him this time last year when his wife Pat was ill and that broke the ice. There was no big plan, it was easy, a laugh, and nice to see him and work together again. We just slipped back into it.”
NME wrote: “After three decades, he’s still at the top of his game – still reinventing, still chasing melodic perfection. Only difference now is that he’s pretty much on his own; nobody else flits from style to style with as much ease and precision. Modlike and Godlike – ‘Wake Up The Nation’ shows just how lucky we are to have Weller.” Full review here. Score: 4.5/5
