‘Temporal’ by LAS COBRAS

LAS COBRAS out of Canelones, Uruguay is an invigorating and experimental psychedelic duo. They got our attention earlier on when they shared some intriguing tracks from their debut album TEMPORAL which is out now via Fuzz Club describing the band’s very first achievement as: ”influenced as much by psych/krautrock greats as it is wildly immersed in
the lysergic sounds of South America – at times delving into lush and textured afro-beat and tropicalia influences.

It’s really an amazing record. A haunting and enthralling trance trip from start to finish
with a tremendous mix of electronics, glowing guitars and twilight vocals. At times their soundscapes are dark, far-out and mysterious, but Sofía Aguerre and Leandro Rebella‘s overall groovy approach turns the whole journey into a thrilling and ongoing energizing experience. They explore sonic waves from the past, the present and create some of their own for the future. Definitely one of the best debut albums of the year. Here’s why…

DEUX FURIEUSES – Back With Crystal Clear Anti-Establishment Single ‘SILENCED BY THE ROAR’…

‘Silenced By The Roar’ by DEUX FURIEUSES

After last year’s excellent and highly praised powerhouse debut album TRACKS OF WIRE
– one of the best LP’s on my 2016 list – outspoken and socially caring London-based duo DEUX FURIEUSES is back with brand new digital single SILENCED BY THE ROAR. The two vital savages, Ros Cairney (guitar, vocals) and Vas Antoniadou (drums, vocals), clarify the fury behind the fresh, cutting post-Brexit track : “it is about the ascendancy of the English ‘roar’, how we feel increasingly silenced by the government’s ‘Crush the saboteurs’ mentality and let down by ‘piss poor politicians’ who are unable to articulate a response to the failures of democracy and the big issues of our times. The song ends with a rallying cry of intent
influenced by protests we have been part of outside Downing Street
.”

This gloriously noisy and sharply observant tandem realize perfectly that our daily life
is affected by politics, that politics dominate society 24/7. And as dangerous and idiotic politicians rule this troubled world today DEUX FURIEUSES step up – again – and use
their vivacious voice and sonic vehemence to ventilate their justified critical anger and social concern. This is an important band. This is a crystal clear frustration stroke…

If you dance with the devil
You’re gonna get burned
Are you ready for the sound
Of tables being turned?
Enemies of the people
Stand up to hate
Citizens of nowhere
Die at the gate
We’re all just sleepwalking into hell

England has roared
Silence the hope
Red lines are crossed
Give me the rope
We’re all just sleepwalking into hell
Give me some hope
We can break the spell
Just say the word
And we’re hypnotised
This world’s a mess
And we’re paralysed

Trick of the light
Twist of the tongue
Looks like the truth
Is not for everyone

We will not be silenced
We will not be silenced

We’re all just sleepwalking into hell
Give me some hope
We can break the spell
Just say the word
And we’re hypnotised
This world’s a mess
And we’re paralysed

We will not be silenced
By history repeating
We will not be silenced
By racist propaganda
We will not be silenced
By piss poor politicians
The will of the people
Is not what I believe in

Last March Jon Spencer and his femme fatale Cristina Martineza plus some New York blues freaks revitalized their band BOSS HOG and released their first new album, titled BROOD X , in nearly two decades. BRITISH SEA POWER – Anthemic Guitar Pop Avalanche In Antwerp…

Finally after four years Brighton‘s BRITISH SEA POWER are back. Their new, sixth album, the excellent and hopeful post-Brexit record LET THE DANCERS INHERIT THE PARTY is
just one of their best longplayers ever to my ears. The sparkling sextet always combined their crystal clear views on the complex society we live in with optimistic sonic ecstasy
and the new record just does the job perfectly. For some strange reasons the band never became a big act outside of the UK. As a fan myself from day one I actually don’t care as long as they spoil us with amazing music and as long as they come out to play in Belgium. Like yesterday in a cosy, small club in Antwerp. Dazzling exhilaration from start to finish.

The set evolved from anthemic pop euphoria to steamy rock vivacity with a vibrant mix
of new elevating crackers (Bad Bohemian / The Voice Of Ivy Lee / Don’t Let The Sun Get In
The Way
/ Saint Jerome) to several electrifying golden oldies (Waving Flags / I Remember /
No Lucifer / All In It
) and turning up the heat at times with some mind-blowing jams. The jubilant audience, all devoted fans, just loved every second of it and left afterwards with
a big smile on their radiant faces. That is what British Sea Power do to your state of mind. Despite the troubled times we all experience(d) they always give you the heartening and blissful feeling that, without being blind for reality, live is definitely worth living. Music is the dope! Welcome back BSP

COURTNEY BARNETT – New Jingle Jangle Track To Boil Eggs To…

The wonderful COURTNEY BARNETT recorded a new track as part of the Split Singles Club series, a collaboration between Barnett’s own Milk! Records and Bedroom Suck Records. The cool Australian singer/songwriter revealed that: “Technically, it’s an old song. I used to perform it at all the open mics when I was 21. It never got recorded, so for personal-posterity
I updated it and made this version recently when I was bunkered up in the bush doin’ some demos for my next album. In tradition of the Milk! Records compilation releases, I wanted to include a song of mine for Split Singles Club that was a tad left of album-centre. So it’s a songwriting experiment that doesn’t really belong anywhere else.”

Here’s the catchy jingle jangle swagger…
