VIVA VIDEO – Canadian Steamroller METZ Launches Animated Clip For Uppercut Track ‘MR. PLAGUE’…

Clips that will have an impact on your eyes and your ears…

16 April 2018

Canadian noise turbo METZ released brand new, third album STRANGE PEACE last year. An enormous wall-of-metallic-havoc monster. The three-headed thrash machine is ready for another extended tour around the world. To start the festivities they just shared an animated clip for MR. PLAGUE, one of the jigsaw smacks of that LP. The clip, directed by Shayne Ehman is “an animated parable about environmental decay, told through the eyes of
a man who litters and gets turned into stone.”

Brooklyn’s VEDA RAYS Share Mysterious Serpentine Video Clip For Haunting Track ‘THE UPSIDEDOWN TREE’…

Daily fuel to load your sonic batteries…

16 April 2018

Sonically VEDA RAYS is a band you’ll find at the crossroad where post-punk, darkwave, synth-pop, shoegaze and 80s new romanticism meet. The Brooklyn based collective just shared an enigmatic video clip for THE UPSIDEDOWN TREE. A track from their 2017 EP.

Frontman and clip director Jim Stark says: “The concepts which inform the song and video
are somewhat abstract but relate to the idea of inverting the accepted symbol sets in order to ‘divine’ the ‘truth’ i.e. see a clearer vision of reality, which is seldom black or white. In simpler terms, it’s about trying to peer through the heavy veil that is the seemingly hopeless madness
of the times we are living in.”

The Upsidedown Tree‘ is a spine-tingling and haunting sonic whirlwind energized with scintillating guitar waves, pushing drums and flashy synths with Stark‘s stirring vox all
over it. The song’s swirling pace will stimulate your adrenalin’s stream from the very start. Here’s the mysterious, serpentine clip…

TODAY’S YESTERDAY ALBUM – ‘The Las Vegas Story’ – By… THE GUN CLUB

Remarkable longplayers from the past

‘The Las Vegas Story’
THE GUN CLUB

Released: 15 June 1984
Third album

ALL MUSIC wrote: “Late frontman /guitarist Jeffrey Lee Pierce was writing feverish rock & roll songs that took their inspiration from Southern blues and West Texas country music all framed by an angular, jagged post-punk energy. The screaming rawness at the heart of the band’s debut, Fire of Love, had been replaced by a dry, moaning lonesome, percussion heavy desert sound, space and echo float through the mix like a ghost through Pierce’s slide guitar playing. Bass drum and tom-toms fuel the attack with a basic, primitive nocturnal energy. Topics ranged from personal disintegration in “Walkin’ with the Beast,” and the country-blues-drenched “Eternally Is Here,” and the shambolic, two-step country confusion of “My Dreams” that quotes directly from Television’s “Marquee Moon” to the disappearance of the nation in “Bad America”‘s edgy guitar wrangle. There are a couple of covers on the set tossed right in the center of the album: “The Master Plan,” a spooky, brooding, rock read of Pharoah Sanders’ and Leon Thomas’ “The Creator Has a Master Plan,” and a slovenly, funereal version of “My Man’s Gone Now,” by George and Ira Gershwin from Porgy and Bess. The Las Vegas Story is a provocative record that reveals the Gun Club was pulled in many directions at once, and though the tension is in evidence on every track, it nonetheless holds together. After ‘Fire of Love’, ‘The Las Vegas
Story’ is their most satisfying album and is, perhaps, the band’s most visionary offering.”

14 April 2018

WHO
MIEN features vocalist Alex Maas (The Black Angels), Tom Furse (The Horrors),
Rishi Dhir (Elephant Stone‘s sitar maestro) and John-Mark Lapham (The Earlies)

MUSIC
Last week this thrilling quartet released one of the best albums of the year (so far).
Their self-titled debut LP is a multi-layered tour de force. Contrary to countless other
side-projects these four most compelling musicians definitely didn’t come together
just to kill some time while their respectively bands took a pause. Oh no, not all,
the final result of their magical collaboration is nothing less than amazing. Here
is a splendiferous record full of mind-stimulating explorations, richly orchestrated compositions, transcendent soundscapes and rapturous arrangements overall. A
sonic work that needs several plays in order to discover the detailed grandeur of it.
After daily spins over the past seven days, I now fully feel and experience Mien‘s psychedelic depth and magnitude. It shows clearly that his group should go on…

TRACK LIST:
EARTH MOON: spiritual illumination
BLACK HABIT: haunting electronica
(I’M TIRED OF) WESTERN SHOUTING:
psych paranoia
YOU DREAMT: experimental escapade
OTHER: cinematic gloominess
ROPES: neurotic disorder
ECHOLALIA: freaky mindfucker
ODESSEY: astonishing groove
EARTH MOON (reprise): cinematic finale

TODAY’S YESTERDAY ALBUM – ‘Trampin’ – PATTI SMITH…

Memorable longplayers from the past…

‘Trampin’
PATTI SMITH

Released: 27 april 2004
Her ninth album

All Music wrote: “Nearly 30 years and nine albums in, Patti Smith shows no signs of giving up, or giving in, despite the fact she expected to be quietly doing her work instead of making rock & roll albums and playing in front of audiences. But then 9/11, Afghanistan, war in Iraq. Smith lives the vocation of a poet in an old-world sense of that word. Once, bards were the gadflies of society. Smith’s Trampin’ is a work that directly evolves from that tradition and fits squarely in her oeuvre. Trampin’ is Smith’s first outing for new label Columbia. She and her bandmates — Lenny Kaye, Jay Dee Daugherty, Tony Shanahan, and Oliver Ray — walk the tightrope between in-your-face garage rock, poetic ballads, and raucous, improvisational pieces. Not surprisingly, Trampin’ is a largely political album, but it is far from a didactic one. Smith’s voice of resistance is a human one, not an ideological one. This is timeless music. It knows no age or subgenre classification; it is American music as it has been spoken the world over; it is rock & roll done
as well as it can be by anybody.”

PICK OF THE DAY – Cutting British Trio NIGHT OWLS Nails It ‘BETTER WITH AGE’…

Daily fuel to load your sonic batteries…

Turn Up The Volume featured this shattering three-headed engine out of Leeds before. NIGHT OWLS consist of life-long friends William Pollard (bass, vocals) and Liam Waddell (guitar) who’ve been joined along the way by Dominic Reed (drums). Their brand new slam BETTER WITH AGE is a short, razor-sharp electro uppercut pushed by manic drums and inflamed with a jigsaw-like guitar sounding like a freakish siren. A trenchant ripper that tears the evil attraction of social media apart. Apply the cliché this time for brain-splitting purpose: PLAY IT DAMN LOUD!…
