Who: “Three noiseniks producing “loud garage rock ‘n’ roll with plenty of fuzz, slapback-vocals, delays & chorus and infinite dance riffs.”

Track: VILLAGE PEOPLE – new single from upcoming album

KRISTIN HERSH Released Her Reflective Debut Solo Album ‘HIPS AND MAKERS’ 25 Years Ago…

Going back in sonic history looking for memorable albums…

23 January 2019

Artist: KRISTIN HERSH

Album: HIPS AND MAKERS – first solo LP

Released: 24 January 1994 – 25 years ago

ALL MUSIC wrote: “Kristin Hersh dug into her backlog of compositions for material of an intensely personal nature that she felt wouldn’t be suitable for her band on her solo debut,
‘Hips and Makers.’ In stark contrast to her work with Throwing Muses, ‘Hips and Makers’ is almost entirely acoustic. She embellishes her waifish voice and acoustic guitar with touches
of cello and piano on this album, which offers a despairing and introspective tone that fails
to submerge her considerable inner strength and fortitude. Recorded in a mere two weeks, this collection of haunting and confessional songs was produced by ex-Patti Smith Group guitarist Lenny Kaye, who has also produced Suzanne Vega. Hersh’s voice and lyrical tone, however, are considerably more brittle and coarser than Vega’s. The opening track, “Your Ghost,” features a duet with R.E.M. singer Michael Stipe.”
– Score: 4.5/5

TURN UP THE VOLUME! says: Personal, stripped to the bone reflections wrapped in delicate, forthright and human songs. Stirring voice, entrancing guitar play, intriguing musings.

Philly’s Duo Rockers INSTANT SMILE Desperate For More Time On Brand New Single…

Daily fuel to load your sonic batteries…

20 January 2019

Philly‘s DIY rockers, husband-wife duo INSTANT SMILE are back with brand new single GIVE ME TIME. Probably their most accessible track so far, although their own peculiar approach of rockabilly is all over the place. Drummer Erin Berry who wrote/sings the song said she was actually inspired by “my repeated failure to manage my time well. Also, there’s a certain time of day into the evening here in the summertime when we do porch beers out front as the sun sets, and I sit there wishing it could last forever. Which got me thinking about chasing the sunset.”

Despite the song’s wishful content and nostalgic edge ‘Give Me Time‘ bounces from riff to riff with an energetic sonic urgency creating an intriguing vibe along the way. Experience the truth-searching fever right here…

Brooklyn Duo HANFORD REACH Shares Sensivite Track From Forthcoming EP – Here’s ‘ASUNDER’…

Daily fuel to load your sonic batteries…

21 January 2019

Band: HANFORD REACH

Who: A Brooklyn based neo-psych-gaze band formed by Chris Sherman
and Leah Cinnamon in late 2016.

Track: ASUNDER – Track from their upcoming EP. A song “about anxieties
that leave you feeling scattered in a few different directions, but learning the
need to stay in the moment to take yourself away from that mindset.”

Score: ‘Asunder‘ is a captivating shoegaze-y soundscape of multi-guitar layers that
gently weep with Chris Sherman‘s both mournful and longing voice adding a vulnerable sentiment of uncertainty as well as hope for a better future. The song’s human confusion is recognizable for many of us, and therefore easy to connect with. Catch the whole-hearted mood right here…

Singer/Songwriter Globetrotter M.REXEN Whispers Intimately On New Single ‘RED HOT FIRE’…

Soulful reveries for the laziest day of the week…

Artist: M.REXEN

Who: “A globetrotter in inner and outer space, M. Rexen was born in the United Arab Emirates and is now living at some unknown location in Denmark. He writes his music without feeling confined by conventions, and his genre is a manifestation of the meeting of experimental,
tribal and commercial. In October 2018 the singer released his debut album, ‘An Endless Sea of Honey’, as the first part of the trilogy ‘The United Kingdom’. The second part will be released in March 2019.”

Track: RED HOT FIRE – the first track from the upcoming, 2nd LP
from ‘The United Kingdom‘ trilogy

Score: Here’s an intimate whisper with an enigmatic touch of magic that connects easily with your heart, your soul and your imagination. The female harmonies add a sensuous tonality you heard frequently on Leonard Cohen‘s ballads. Alo this silent beauty reminds me of the darkest moments of Bonnie “Prince” Billy and the vulnerable sentiments of the late great Sparklehorse‘s frontman Mark Linkous. Mysterious, appealing and poetic. Catch the contemplative mood here…
