Happy 75 To Fabulous Singer/Songwriter And Compelling Storyteller RAY DAVIES…

HappyB

21 June 2019

Sir Raymond Douglas Davies, the former frontman of THE KINKS, one of the most
iconic bands ever, was born on 21st June 1944. Happy 75 to a brilliant singer/songwriter,
a compelling storyteller and an engrossing observer. A genuine British pop star who wrote countless gems and is still active as a bona fide solo performer! To celebrate this truly extraordinary phenomenon’s 75th birthday Turn Up The Volume selected five big ones
(not the massive obvious ones like You Really Got Me/Lola/Sunny Afternoon and Victoria
as you would expect, but five ace pearls nonetheless). Here we go…

– WHERE HAVE ALL THE GOOD TIMES GONE –

– DANDY –

– A WELL RESPECTED MAN –

– APEMAN –

– BRINGING UP BABY –
(From 2018 solo LP Our Country: Americana Act 2 )

New York City’s RUSSIAN BATHS Astounds With Their Newest Grungy Slam… ‘PARASITE’

Daily fuel to load your sonic batteries…

Band: RUSSIAN BATHS

Who: Engrossing duo producing “Intertwining feedback and harmony with equal
significance, Russian Baths paint in searing strokes finding beauty in towering, looming, incendiary noise-rock. Influenced by Sonic Youth, Nirvana, Archers of Loaf and more…”

Track: PARASITE

Score: ‘‘Parasite’ sounds both weirdly seducing because of its reflective duet vocals and overall menacing because of its heavy droning grunge sturdiness. This is an intriguing, zestful and haunting stroke that begs for more. Find out why right here…

Irish up and coming underground misfits FONTAINES D.C. led by charismatic frontman Grian Chatten released their razzmatazz debut LP ‘Dogrel‘ last April, one of the most awe-inspiring longplayers of 2019 so far. A modern day post punk record about anxiety and apprehension. The band just shared a fresh clip for one of the rather quiet, yet disturbing meditations of the LP. Listen/watch SHA SHA SHA here…

FLEETWOOD MAC Topped The US Singles Chart With ‘DREAMS’ 42 Years Ago…

Knockouts from the past

19 June 2019

I know the original FLEETWOOD blues MAC led by the eccentric and cranky Peter
Green
was the real deal with imperishable diamonds such as ‘Oh Well‘, ‘Albatross
and ‘The Green Manalishi‘. After Green and others left co-founder/drummer Mick Fleetwood and bassist John McVie transformed the band into a gigantically selling
Americana divorce pop band with the 1977 mega bestseller longplayer ‘Rumours‘ as
their magnum opus. ‘DREAMS’ was the 2nd single from that LP. A smooth mid-tempo ballad, written and sung by the wonderful-tastic Stevie Nicks. It topped the US Singles Chart today 42 years ago, on 18 June 1977. Here’s the gorgeous Stevie…
