TOYAH And ROBERT FRIPP Relax With Magical Slow-Mo Version Of FRANKIE GOES TO HOLLYWOOD Classic

5 December 2023

British famous singer-songwriter-producer TREVOR HORN (now 74), who scored
a huge No. 1 UK hit in 1979 with his one-time project Buggles and their catchy pop tune Video Killed The Radio Star (more than 323 million streams on Spotify) has released an album with 11 covers. It’s called Echoes: Ancient & Modern. The record features several celebrities such as Iggy Pop, Marc Almond, Seal, Tori Amos, and Rick Ashley.

Longtime famous British songstress TOYAH and husband/guitar virtuoso ROBERT FRIPP (co-founder of legendary prog rockers King Crimson) are also part of the cast of guests.

Their take on Frankie Goes To Hollywood‘s 1984 glorious debut classic Relax
is pretty special. The by now cover experts’ (after about 3 years of their weekly Sunday Lunch Sessions) version is a bewitching slo-mo beauty, with emotive Toyah vocals, Fripp‘s glowing and sparkling guitar play (with backwards recorded fragments?), and soothing synth-symphonic waves.

Orchestral, ambient, and spellbinding.
And, of course, Horn‘s production is perfect.

Magic.
