New Compilation – LOU REED As Paycheque Composer At Pickwick Records 1964/1965

26 October 2024

Record label Light In The Attic in cooperation with Laurie Anderson and
the Lou Reed Archive, released an album, named of Why Don’t You Smile:
Lou Reed at Pickwick Records 1964-65

It’s a compilation of pop songs penned by Lou Reed during his mid-60s
stint as a staff songwriter for the long-defunct label Pickwick Records.

Before establishing himself as an enduringly iconic singer, songwriter, musician,
and poet, the late legend (1942-2013) was an in-house songwriter (and occasional
session guitarist/vocalist) for Pickwick Records, a label specializing in sound-alike
recordings that emulated the major pop hits of the day.

Encompassing everything from garage-rock and girl-group pop to blue-eyed soul
and teen-idol balladry. Reed’s output ultimately offers a fascinating early glimpse
at his ever-evolving and truly limitless artistry.

The original album has been restored and remastered by GRAMMY®-nominated mastering engineer John Baldwin. It features rarities, cult classics (The Primitives’
“The Ostrich”
), and previously unreleased material.

JOE MAXI – Irish Crackpots Explode On New Ballistic Burst ‘BUTTERFLY’

Daily electricity to load your batteries

26 October 2024

Band: JOE MAXI
Who: 4 Irish crackpots.

Single: BUTTERFLY

Press statement: “A chaotic whirling dervish of a track that slams the visceral
expression of Minor Threat against the angular prog tweakiness of King Crimson
via the pop sensibilities of The Beatles and indie darlings, The Strokes. All providing
the landscape for an usual love song that speaks to long distance relationships
and the adoration of one’s partner.” Eh, come again!

TUTV: Garage punk rock havoc, bringing riff maniac John Dwyer and his Osees gang to mind. Butterfly cuts like a new razor blade. It’s a bang-on left/right sucker-punch cranked up by schizophrenic guitars and a frantic spitting/sneering loudmouth who just got out of his straightjacket. Lots of horsepower, lots of sonic insanity. Ballistic burst. Badass shit.

Album Tracks That Should Have Been Singles – ‘BORN AS GHOSTS’ By RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE (1999)

Band: RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE

Album: THE BATTLE OF LOS ANGELES
Their 3rd one, released 25 years ago,
on 2 November 1999. No. 1 in the US.
3 singles: Guerilla Radio, Sleep Now In
The Fire
and Testify.

Track: BORN AS GHOSTS

The hills find peace, locked armed guard posts
Safe from the screams of the children born as ghosts
Gates guns and alarms, shape the calm of the dawn
Peering down into the basin where death lives on
When young run foaming at the mouth with hate
When burning batons beat the freezing who shake
Under the toxic sunsets they dine and toast
Of walls deny the terror faced
By the children born as ghosts

Born as ghosts
A warning, you sufferers, begin to speak our word
Born as ghosts
A warning, you sufferers, begin to speak our word
Born as ghosts
