THE BETHS – New Zealand’s Guitar-Pop Outfit Back With Jaunty Tune ‘METAL’

Daily noise that works faster than a stream of caffeine

29 April 2025

Band: THE BETHS
Who: Guitar pop outfit from New Zealand with 3 full lengths
on their résumé, with 2022’s Expert In A Dying Field as the
most recent one.

New single: METAL
Their first new music
in 3 years.

Elizabeth Stokes (vocalist/guitarist): “‘Metal’ is a song about being alive and existing in a human body. For parts of the last few years, I kind of felt like my body was a vehicle that had carried me pretty well thus far but was breaking down, something I had little to no control over.

And despite all the ways that my body feels like a broken machine, I still marvel at
the complexity of such a machine. I can hold that knowledge in one hand, and yet
with the other hand I can point to my reflection and just be like ‘you are shit’. Or ‘ugly.’
Or ‘worthless.’

Wake up people,
and follow your
body.

NEIL YOUNG Debuted New Robust Rocker ‘LET’S ROLL AGAIN’ Last Saturday In Los Angeles

New striking strokes

79-year-old NEIL YOUNG is one of those artists (such as Bob Dylan, Springsteen, the Stones, Van Morrison, Elvis Costello, Willie Nelson, Dolly Parton, and many more) who were born with music in their DNA. They eat, sleep and breath music and have no intention whatsoever to retire.

Young is again omnipresent, with several releases of new old/live albums, a new LP
and an upcoming world tourThe Chrome Hearts , a concert movie, titled Coastal
which premiered last week

Last Saturday he played at the Greek Theater in Los Angeles.
Here he premiered a new robust rocker LET’S ROLL AGAIN,
and rollin’ it does. I suppose it will be on the upcoming LP with
his new band.

Former colleague and friend Stephen Stills joined Young on stage for
a rendition of Buffalo Spingfield‘s big 1966 hit For What It’s Worth,
written by Stills (almost 800 million streams on Spotify).

TUTV: Holy smoke. Expect a steaming stoner rock roaster bouncing forth and back,
left and right, a jarring jackhammer motorized by a muscular drummer, chainsaw guitar riffs and vociferous vocals. Its cast iron horsepower can break a concrete wall into pieces. Sounds pretty hefty, right? You betcha.

Press play.

STEREOPHONICS – Welsh Rock Heroes By Good Numbers On New Album

28 April 2025

Welsh rock legends STEREOPHONICS have launched their 13th longplayer,
titled MAKE ‘EM LAUGH, MAKE ‘EM CRY, MAKE ‘EM WAIT on April 25.

Press info: “Stereophonics celebrate over 25 years as one of the UK’s most loved
bands, with ‘Make ‘em Laugh, Make ‘em Cry, Make ‘em Wait’, Kelly Jones – who also
produced the record – continues to cement his place amongst the great British songwriters. Stereophonics have developed an enduring success and deep-seated
bond with their audience that is like few others.”

Clash Magazine says: “‘Make ’Em Laugh, Make ’Em Cry, Make ’Em Wait’ is full of hope
and feel good offerings. It really does embody the emotions captured in its title. Whilst
it’s not necessarily reinventing the wheel, it’s yet another triumph from the Stereophonics
who offer up a precise, assured and focused album that further cements their prowess at blending rock sensibilities with those glorious soaring melodies that keeps their sound as
vital and atmospheric as ever.”

TUTV: The Welsh heroes weren’t/aren’t about experimenting and doing things they never did before. They’re the Kelly Jones-fronted singer-songwriter band that always pop out and rock out with simple, easygoing tunes. Bittersweet songs for heart and soul. Melancholia all over this record, which only contains 8 songs, all solid ones, and finishes after 29 minutes. Maybe after 25 years, Jones thinks that less is more.
