VIAGRA BOYS – Swedish Mean Groove Machine Strikes Again With New 4th Album ‘VIAGR A BOYS’

New longplayers

25 April 2025

Band: VIAGRA BOYS
Who: Swedish punk-rock dropouts fronted
by the human tattoo Sebastian Murphy.

New album: VIAGR ABOYS
Not their smartest LP title, but
already their 4th one.

Press info: “The LP sees VB turn inwards, leaving the acid-laced, conspiracy-addled societal commentary of previous LP Cave World behind to journey into the acid-laced, conspiracy-addled landscape within. Absurd, intense and surprisingly tender, viagr aboys shuts out the noise to find that the important part of being alive in the big, stupid world is figuring out that the world inside of you that is equally big and stupid.”

NME says: “Eclectic art-punk for the end times. The album is a fun, funny and wise portrait of contemporary anxieties. Perhaps this is the simple and stupid philosophical truth that Viagra Boys are getting at: love is the only thing that will stop us losing our minds in the face of reality’s horrors.” Score: 4/5.

TUTV: At their core, Viagra Boys still are the mean groove machine we know from
their swirling start. Whether they speed up, slow down or move somewhere in
between (except for the closing, tender piano ballad), they always have an intense
impact on your body’s movements.

Wordsmith Murphy still keeps on rattling and rap-like rolling non-stop, but the overall
sonic vibe is more varied this time. From catchingly capricious to one-direction punk crazy, to sultry saxy. I’m not sure all the time what Murphy rambles about, but our messed-up times are always in the middle of his bizarre stories. Ultimately, it’s all about love, the only answer to hate. Another great job, boys.

JOHNNY MARR Will Shine His Light That Never Goes Out Next Fall On Europe

Ex-The Smiths guitar hero JOHNNY MARR who played/worked with countless

tandem from Hull, UK.

Track: ONE SHOT
2nd single from their upcoming
debut EP, titled Pump Funk.

TUTV: Only their 2nd single, but it’s clear that Cutty is here to stay. One Shot is a groovy jam that satisfies your avid ears on the spot. You can hum, sing or whistle along until the shaky finale sets in. The repeat button was invented for sickly sticky tunes like this. Bullseye.

Artist: KENTUCKY
Who: The musical project of Canadian singer-songwriter Jordan Holman.
His songs, a quicksilver blend of acoustic rock, indie folk, and subtle ’90s alternative
glow, carry stories shaped by extremes: from near-death hushes to the hard-won
hope of second chances.

Track: THE FIRST DAY OF THE REST OF MY LIFE

The song marks a shift in tone for Kentucky, offering a clear-eyed, quietly triumphant reflection on renewal after pain. With its steady acoustic build and gentle optimism, it feels
like the emotional breakthrough following a long internal storm.

TUTV: Hail hail Rock ‘n’ Roll! Kentucky keeps it simple with this irresistible, straightforward steamroller. Foot on the gas, incessant riffage and feeling-good vocals. Amidst all the chaos that plagues our planet, a hopeful booster like this is very welcome.

YUNGBLUD Detonates A Second Time On New Belter ‘LOVESICK LULLABY’

Daily noise that works faster than a stream of caffeine

25 April 2025

As all his fans already know for some weeks British showy indie biggie YUNGLBUD
has canned his full length number four. But they still don’t know when it’ll appear.

Yungblud told NME about the new one: “I’ve been listening to a lot of, old-old school music, going back to people like Bonnie Raitt and Linda Ronstadt and Led Zeppelin and kind of even Elton John,” he added. “Rock is my genre. I feel like I’ve been dabbling in many different things and trying to twist rock, but I feel like at the minute it’s exciting because rock music feels spherical… it needed to sound big, it needed to sound cinematic.”

New Track: LOVESICK LULLABY It’s the 2nd single, following
the astonishing 9-minute first one Hello Heaven, Hello.

Yungblud: “Making this song was a f*cking party and you can hear that on the recording.
I tried to let my subconscious do a lot of the talking and then make sense of my words the following afternoon in a kitchen, hungover, eating fish and chips with a cup of tea.

I’ve been on
a journey trying to find meaning in different places all over the world, for which I am forever grateful, but it felt as though my feet left the ground a little too much and I had
to bring myself back to British music, to British art and culture.”

Wake up people, lullaby
or not, Yungblud rocks his
ass off.

PERE UBU’s Giant Mastermind DAVID THOMAS Passed Away At 71

24 April 2025

Florida-born, UK-based singer/songwriter/activist/rocker/poet/storyteller DAVID THOMAS,
best known as the mastermind of wayward alt-rock legends PERE UBU has passed away, following a long illness. He was 71.

The sad news was announced on the band’s socials.

Pere Ubu released 19 LPs between 1978 and 2023, with
Trouble On Big Beat Street as the most recent one.

With multiple amazing records, his revved-up live performances
and his giant presence, he will never be forgotten. R.I.P.

I saw Thomas and PU 7 years ago on one of their last tours, when they played a small
club in Diksmuide, Belgium. Already back then, physical problems nailed him to his chair the whole concert, but it didn’t stop him from deliver a kick out the jams performance.

NERVES – West-Irish Indies Split Your Brain With Their ‘DIRTY FINGERS’

Daily electricity to load your batteries

24 April 2025

Band: NERVES
Who: West-Irish indie punks. They released
their impressive 8-track debut EP Glórach
last year.

New single: DIRTY FINGERS

Kyle Thornton (frontman): “With ‘Dirty Fingers’ we wanted to come out of the gates with something that was fast, intense and sonically overwhelming… It’s the abrasive, danceable and industrial side of this band taken to its extreme, with the added vulnerability of starting a tune with just vocals, something which freaked me out enough at the time that I knew it was probably a good idea.”

Lyrically, the track wrestles with personal collapse and the slippery process of trying to rebuild – its feverish intensity reflecting a psyche at war with itself, reeling from substance-induced ruin while clawing toward redemption. “Dirty Fingers” doesn’t offer a resolution, only the desperate momentum of someone sprinting from the wreckage they helped create.

Single artwork

TUTV: Dirty Fingers is a psychotic-industrial sledgehammer, splitting your brain with
nine inch nails. It’s a nasty piece of drill punk, a maddening mindfucker. Drone, drone, drone. Deranged guitars, scary spit and sneer vocals, relentless pounding all contribute ominous amok to this horror-ific nightmare. Alert your neighbours before you press play.

Ryan Mortel (bassist and video director): “The video is about questioning if you can
truly ever leave your home, or will there always be a part of you left behind? What demons
will pursue you in order for you to accept that home is truly where your heart lies? It’s a fundamental Irish question that we all find ourselves asking in an age of mass emigration.”

OASIS Released Their First No 1 Hit Single In The UK ‘SOME MIGHT SAY’ This Day In 1995

Top singles from the past

24 April 2025

OasissOME

30 years ago today, on 24 April 1995, Manchester‘s rock kings OASIS released
SOME MIGHT SAY from their million-seller LP (What’s The Story) Morning Glory?
It was their 6th single and first No. 1 in the UK.

The single was also the last to feature all five original members,
as drummer Tony McCarroll was fired shortly after its release.

The sleeve artwork was created by Brian Cannon. It was shot on the
disused platform of Cromford, a railway station in Derbyshire, England.

This is how cool rock ‘n’ roll clips look like.

Their Top Of The Pops appearance was definitely cool too.
