BOB DYLAN – The Living Legend’s 6th LP ‘HIGHWAY 61 REVISITED’ Is 60

Significant longplayers of yesteryear

31 August 2025

Living singer-songwriter legend BOB DYLAN (my all-time fav songsmith), now aged 84, released his 6th longplayer HIGHWAY 61 REVISITED, 60 years ago on 30 August 1965.
It featured his best known song/hit Like A Rolling Stone (#2 in the US, #4 in the UK).

It peaked at #3 in the US and #4 in the UK.

Dylan about the album’s title: “I wanted to call that album Highway 61 Revisited. Nobody understood it. I had to go up the fucking ladder until finally the word came down and said:
Let him call it what he wants to call it’.

Rolling Stone Magazine said: “The strangest, funniest, most baffling and most perfect album. It arrived just five months after his previous masterpiece, Bringing It All Back Home, but this was a different guy making a different album, a folk rogue embracing the weirdness and spook of electric rock & roll.”

Dylan: “The songs on this specific record are not so
much songs but rather exercises in tonal breath control.”

BRIGHT EYES Share Endearing Musing ‘DYSLEXIC PALINDROME’ From New Upcoming EP

Reveries for the laziest day of the week

31 August 2025

Nebraska‘s pop/rock trio BRIGHT EYES, formed and conducted
by singer-songwriter Conor Oberst released their top-shelf
11th album, named Five Dice, All Threes, last year.

The trio are in a productive flow. They have canned an
8-track EP now, titled Kids Table. It’s out on Sept 26.

A month ago we got the first track with the ska-juiced tune 1st World Blues.

The 2nd preview DYSLEXIC PALINDROME is a country-tinted musing,
perfect for Oberst characteristic melancholic voice. It features vocalist and
songwriter Alynda Segarra from Americana band Hurrah For The Riff Raff.

Oberst: “Alynda Segarra is one of the most soulful people I have ever encountered.
Everything that passes through them is haunted by the weary ghost of American music
past. I have had the good fortune of recording and performing with them on many occasions and I am always blown away by Alynda’s ability to channel what is both intangible and universal.

Touching.
Endearing.

MUTATIONS FESTIVAL – BRIGHTON UK – 6/7 November 2025

MUTATIONS FESTIVAL
Brighton, UK
Indoors
6/7 Nov 2025

Wow. This is a dream line-up, when you love, like I do (post)punk, rock, psychedelia etc. by relatively small indie bands.

Note: I saw Lambrini Girls for the first time 3 years ago playing for 50 people, in a cafe in my hometown of Ghent, Belgium, now they headline a festival.

BEST ALBUM OF THE MONTH – AUGUST 2025

30 August 2025

Band: THE NEW EVES
Who: Must hear/see indies from Brighton (where everybody is in a band).
They cruise from folk to punk, using, besides traditional instruments (guitar,
bass and drums) also cello, flute, violin and other classical gear.

I saw them performing in Brussels 2 years
ago. It was a sterling, ear-and-eye spectacle.

Album: THE NEW EVE IS RISING.
Their debut.

NME said: “The Brighton band are unconcerned by modern trends, building
their own singular free-spirited world where they make the rules. You won’t
find a hint of jittery post-punk or cavernous stomp-clap pop on the band’s
debut album.

A record that instead mines the unpredictable free-spiritedness of freak folk,
the loose, louche nature of rock’n’roll and the no-rules attitude of punk.”

TUTV: Eccentricity is the new normal. Poetic, medieval music is among us.
The New Eves are something special, really special. Next to drum/bass/guitar
they use more untraditional instruments such as cello, flute, violin and other
classical music gear.

At their core, musically, they’re a folk punk rock band, an outlandish one, that is.
One of those that play gloriously out of tune at times, enthuse up with splendacious chants and have your bewildering attention for the full 40 baffling minutes. One of
the most innovative records of the year. Hands down.

Singles: Highway Man / Rivers Run Red / The New Eve / Cow Song

– HIGHWAY MAN –
Modern-day punk cry out.

– THE NEW EVE –
Cacophonic spiritual.

– RIVERS RUN RED –
Wayward flute-guitar-drum hypnotizer.

– COW SONG –
Moo-tastic.

Daily noise that works faster than a stream of caffeine

30 August 2025

Band: BELIEVE IN NOTHING
Who: Eastbourne-(UK)-based sludge/noise band founded in 2023.
They utilise layers of cacophonous and erratic noise, overlaid with
gruesome harsh vocals to build up a bleak atmosphere of dread
through both their on-record and live performances.

ELIAS RØNNENFELT – Frontman Of ICEAGE Tackles America On New Feverish Single ‘USA BABY’

Daily electricity to load your batteries

30 August 2025

Album artwork

It’s been 4 years now since Danish amplified pop darlings Iceage released
their top drawer album Seek Shelter. In 2022, they kept their fans happy
with a collection of rarities and outtakes.

On the other hand, their charismatic leader Elias Rønnenfelt is a busy man.
He wrote a book of poetry, worked with other artists, and released his notable
solo debut LP, named Heavy Glory, last year, in October.

Earlier this year, he shared a couple of stand-alone singles,
and now the news came in that he has recorded a follow-up
full-length. It’s baptized Speak Daggers and comes our way
on October 17. More info here.

Artwork single

Lead single USA BABY is sung from the perspective of a non-American
watching his American girlfriend get messed up by her home country’s
political administration.

Affecting, feverish and magnetic. Top-tier track.

Oh mama, mama come back to me
Streamlined baby in Delaware
Oh, like that and like this and there
Your love’s at range, but only God knows where

Dumb rider of nowhere
La lune regarde, devil may care
Sleepless mon cheri
Hope I’ll land on my feet

Oh my baby’s known better days
They cut her off, that’s how they play
Oh my baby she doesn’t care
In the USA they rip and tear

Hold for famine, gotta get a grip on my soul
There I’ll open damn near every openable hole
Hey hey hey
