KERRANG’s BEST ALBUM OF 2025

29 December 2025

Band: TURNSTILE
Who: Baltimore‘s notorious
hardcore mavericks.

Album: NEVER ENOUGH
Their 4th.

Album artwork

“The Baltimore punks found themselves riding the crest of a wave of their own making.
Indebted to a love of Bad Brains, Nirvana and Fugazi, their unique sound was just as informed by passion for shoegaze, pop and R&B, and through this blurring of the lines, they became the gateway drug for a generation of fans now packing out venues everywhere, having captured lightning in a bottle.”

Primal JOHN LENNON Scream Single ‘MOTHER’ Came Out 55 Years Ago

Top singles from the past

28 December 2025

JOHN LENNON released his hit single MOTHER
on 28 December 1970, today 55 years ago (only in
the US).

The B-side Why was credited to Yoko Ono.

It featured on the John Lennon/Plastic Ono Band
the first post-Beatles LP by Lennon.

The song’s lyrics address both of Lennon‘s parents, each of whom abandoned him in his childhood. His father, Alf, left the family when he was an infant and his mother, Julia, did not live with her son, although they had a good relationship. She was killed in a car accident on 15 July 1958 by an off-duty policeman when Lennon was 17.

Lennon was inspired to write the song after undergoing primal therapy with
Arthur Janov initially described the therapy as “something more important to
me than The Beatles”.

Mother, you had me but I never had you
Oh-oh-oh, I wanted you, you didn’t want me
So I, I gotta tell you
Goodbye, goodbye

Mother, you left me but I never left you
Oh-oh-oh, I needed you, you didn’t need me
So I, I gotta tell you
Goodbye, goodbye

Children, don’t do what I have done
Oh-oh-oh, I couldn’t walk, I tried to run
So I gotta tell you
Goodbye, goodbye

Mother, you had me but I never had you
Oh-oh-oh, I wanted you, you didn’t want me
So I gotta tell you
Goodbye, goodbye

Mama, don’t go
Daddy, come home
Mama, don’t go
Daddy, come home

SQUEEZE – British Guitar Pop Monument Premier Their 16th Album ‘TRIXIES’ In March

28 December 2025

Band: SQUEEZE

Who: British guitar pop monument, formed in 1974 in London.
Unfortunately they lost their drummer Gilson Lavis who passed
away last month, on November 5th.
Active: 1974–1982, 1985–1999, 2007–present.

Album: TRIXIES
Their 16th.

Press info: “The new studio album by Squeeze, could have been their very first record. Written by Chris Difford and Glenn Tilbrook when they were just 19 and 16 respectively, Trixies is a concept album born of imagination and nostalgia. Inspired by a fictional members’ club dreamt up in the early ‘70s and imagined as existing in the “future” (the ‘80s), the album channels a world reminiscent of a ‘20s or ‘30s speakeasy – glamourous, smoky, and populated by colourful characters.

Although the album was demo-ed at the time it was never released, and only revisited decades later. Now, the record is fully realized with today’s musicianship and production, combining teenage brilliance with seasoned artistry; its lyrical themes and narrative sweep offering fertile ground for storytelling and immersive campaign touchpoints.”
