TUTV: I always thought about NG as a melancholic boy looking over his shoulder
and wondering what ever happened in his youth (Don’t Look Back In Anger, Live Forever, Whatever, AKA… What A Life, Stop The Clocks). And I thought/think right as his new one is almost a full retrospective LP wrapped in psychedelic pop tunes. And that’s what he
always did best and still does. Writing top tunes, verse/chorus/verse/middle-eight/chorus, that appeal to millions. And one more thing, his great voice even gets better as he gets older. He doesn’t need Oasis.

THE BARNESTORMERS – Five Rockabilly Heroes Get Together And Have Their Steaming Riff-Hot Debut LP Out Now

Who: Rockabilly heroes doing it together. Featuring drummer Slim Jim Phantom
from the Stray Cats, Australian guitarist/vocalist Chris Cheney who founded The Living
End in 1994, former member of British power pop outfit Squeeze, pianist and TV-star Jools Holland and South African renowned producer/engineer Kevin ‘The Caveman’ Shirley who’s the main man in the studio and Scottish-born Australian born musician/singer Jimmy Barnes who started it all.

These four rockabilly addicts just released their self-titled debut LP. Order info here.

NME says: “While it’s the Cold Chisel frontman’s soulful tenor that piques curiosity at first, that’s just one piece of a much more complex and dynamic puzzle: Cheney’s rollicking riffs
gel wonderfully with Shirley’s groovy low-end, while Holland adds some brightness and flare
on the piano. This is ’50s jukebox jamming at it’s rockin’ and rollin’ best.”

Turn Up The Volume: I know it’s only rockabilly, but I like it, they like it and you
should like it to. Expect retro-riff extravaganza, boogie-woogie piano exhilaration, irresistible move ‘n’ groove tunes, rattle and roll electricity, all infused with classic
rawk vocals. Not one dull moment with The Barnestormers. Their debut is a more
than welcome soundtrack in these messed-up times. Move your furniture, invite
your friends and have yourself a sweaty party. Right on!

Welsh Pyschedelic Rockers THE DHARMA VIOLETS Hit Bullseye With Second Album ‘BACK IN THE ROOM’

Band: THE DHARMA VIOLETS
Who: A psych/space/indie rock band hailing from Cardiff, South Wales.
They blending rich vocal harmonies and thoughtful lyricism with swirling
guitars, spacey synth textures, hypnotic drones and soundscapes set to
driving melodic bass hooks over cool drum grooves.

New album: BACK IN THE ROOM
Their second one following Random Transmissions (2015).

TUTV: THDV embed 60s psychedelia in a blistering mix of flaming garage rock mania (Stellar Door / The Boy Who Sold The Stars / Knocked Me Sideways / Numb Serene), swaggering mid-tempo grooves (Echoes Through Time / These Are The Headlines / Plain Sailing Away / Trip The Receptor with George Harrison‘s ghost on sitar), an impressive, amplified slo-mo jam right in the middle (Lost My Halo) and a stunning opener with horns snippets of Primal Scream‘s e-tastic classic Loaded.

Overall I hear Beatles-like harmonies, multi-layered guitar extravaganza à la Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, steady drums/bass horsepower, sizzling six-string solos, psyched-out space steamrollers, 24 Karat riff-rushing rockers, some slow ones, and echoing vocals
from the eight miles high past. Final result: a hell of a must-hear record that I added to
my best-albums-of-2023 list. The Dharma Violets should be huge. FACT! Don’t miss them.

The brothers Ron and Russell Mael, famously known as SPARKS are
around since 1966, yes, that’s 57 years and no sign of calling it a day.
On the contrary.

Today they make all their fans – old, middle-aged
and young – yes 3 generations, very happy with their
25th LP. It’s titled THE GIRL IS CRYING IN HER LATTE

The Mael bros about the new LP: “As bold and uncompromising
as anything we did back then, or for that matter, anytime throughout
our career.”

Mojo Magazine (UK): “Ron Mael’s lyrics are elegiac, witty and forensically
detailed; Russel Mael delivers them exquisitely and they specialise in ear
worms.” Score: 8/10.

TUTV: Since their massive 1974 breakthrough hit This Town Ain’t Big Enough
For The Both Of Us the Mael brothers took the world in order to have a place for
them both. Almost 50 years later they still know accurately how to write/make top pop tunes. And even after 50 years, they do it with a fresh, desiring, and masterful approach. Their music is elevating, enrapturing, and entrancing. I know it’s only pop, but I like it,
I like it, I like it. A lot of inspiration at play here for young artists.

Masked Hellraisers SLEEP TOKEN Ready To Conquer The World With New LP ‘TAKE ME BACK TO EDEN’

SLEEP TOKEN is a mysterious industrial post-metal phenomenon from London.
The band members wear masks and claim to be united in their worship of an
ancient deity identified by them as ‘Sleep‘, who appeared to the band’s ominous
lead singer, Vessel.

Last year they shared Herculian noizzz experiences with their 2nd album This Place Will
Become Your Tomb. And their new one, out today, baptized TAKE ME BACK TO EDEN
will make them global metal stars.

NME says: “The mysterious group have become one of the scene’s most talked-about
bands. Their latest album more than justifies the intrigue… Doubters dismissed their
shadowy anonymity and eclectic sound as a gimmick, but this band’s star isn’t burning out. Their unpredictability, more than ever, is part of their very essence, and there’s a lot here that seasoned Sleep Token fans will recognise as unchartered territory. There’s more risks on ‘Take Me Back To Eden’ than Sleep Token have ever taken before, but there’s never an opportunity to doubt whether anything they attempt will succeed. It’s an ambitious, emotional monolith of a record, with all the hallmarks of future classic status.” Score: 5/5.

TUTV: What Sleep Token do is not new, they didn’t reinvent the metal wheel. But their imaginative mix of all things monumental metallica is wholly worth exploring even if
you’re not a fanatic fan of the genre, like me. Their towering classical melodies, their massive quiet/Loud/quiet orchestrations, their jawdropping mood-swing eruptions
and their bombastic and theatrical trickery combine for an overwhelming opus.

FRED AGAIN… Teams Up With His Mentor BRIAN ENO For Trance Trip Album ‘SECRET LIFE’

New album: SECRET LIFE

NME says: “Introduced by a friend of his who happened to be Eno’s neighbour, 16-year-old Fred Gibson started attending some of Eno’s legendary a capella performances at his home, going on to become his unofficial protégé… Eno lets his protégé take the narrative reins, laying soundscapes behind Fred’s soft-focus storytelling. This surprise album – despite its frequent beauty – works best as a puzzle piece rather than a standout record in its own right.”
Score: 3/5.

TUTV: Weird collaboration? No, certainly not. The very popular EBM/house/hip-hop/DJ FRED and legendary sound wizard ENO complete each other here on this surprise album. They created a sonic labyrinth where Eno‘s hallucinatory ambient waves progress in slow motion causing a trance trip in a foggy environment and Fred‘s rare (ghostly) vocals seem to come from his mysterious universe. A hushed, soothing soundtrack for late-night mind-entertainment after a busy day and too much noisy music. 4/5.

Dance Diva ALISON GOLDFRAPP Celebrates Her 57th Birthday With Her First Solo Album ‘THE LOVE INVENTION’

British synth duo Goldfrapp, Alison Goldfrapp and Will Gregory ,
fabricated 7 LPs since they started dancing in 1999.

Both were involved in several other projects and now after all
these years, Alison finally has her first solo full lenght out.

It’s named THE LOVE INVENTION and features renowned producers such
as Richard X (Pet Shop Boys, M.I.A.), James Greenwood (Daniel Avery, Kelly
Lee Owens), and Toby Scott (The Gossip, Annie). Order info here.

Evening Standard (UK newspaper): “The listener can take the songs at face value and relax into the blissful disco grooves. “I feel like there’s a lot to be said for pure unadulterated fun,” she has said, and she definitely says it here… It’s best to give up looking for any underbelly and give in to the emotion. It may be a minor name change but it’s an entirely fresh start.” Score: 4/5.

TUTV: I don’t know if it was meant to be, but today is Alison‘s 57th birthday and yesterday her very first solo album came out. A groovy-disco record to hake your booty to. The ideal EBM soundtrack for late night summer parties. But for now let’s dance to celebrate’s Goldfrapp‘s birthday.

THERAPY? Beat METALLICA With New Towering Album ‘HARD COLD FIRE’

Northern Irish rock heroes Therapy? are survivors. They went through a lot, good and
bad things since they hit the scene back in 1989, but they’re not quitters. The release of their new, 11th LP baptized HARD COLD FIRE is solid gold proof of that.

I’m not gonna dissect Hard Cold Fire song by song, I leave that to professional critics.
I rather express what I think of it this way. Last month noise giants Metallica released their new album 72 Seasons and when I heard Therapy?‘s new opus my ears told me right away that there’s a similar hard-hitting, sky-scraping wall-of-big-banging sound between the two longplayers. Similar, not identical, it’s not like they are copies, whatsoever.

So, what’s the difference between these two splendid records? Hard Cold Fire feels more like it comes from the heart and soul of the makers than from a fans-first mind, from indie-land instead of corporate-land, more like what-you-hear-is-what-we-stand-for than what-you-hear-is-what-our-producer-registrated. Mind you, I still think 72 Seasons is top, but Hard Cold Fire hits me inside out and therefore my ears and my emotions conclude that Therapy? beats Metallica.
