Amazing Grace – SARAH WALK With Goosebumps Version Of ‘NOTHING COMPARES 2 U’

24 March 2021

SARAH WALK is a Los Angeles based singer-songwriter with
a crystal voice balancing between chanteuses Angel Olsen and
Sharon Van Etten.

She recently shared an amazing version of global hit Nothing
Compares 2 U
written and recorded by the late great Prince
and made world-famous by Sinead O’Connor back in 1990.

Walk: “I didn’t want to get too inside the other versions that
already existed because I wanted to make sure I approached
it my own way.”

Her version is wholly affecting with an ongoing magnetic piano
touch, a heavy-hearted orchestration, and her goosebumps
voice. Mesmeric rendition!

FUTURE ISLANDS Cover TINA TURNER

15 March 2021

Baltimore’s pop combo FUTURE ISLANDS led by energetic frontman
Samuel T. Herring delivered their sixth LP As Long As You Are
last October.

And now they do what so many did/do since that vicious pandemic
changed our lives: covering other artists. The band picked a big 1985
Tina Turner hit. If you never heard of Tina and her moody beauty
WE DON’T NEED ANOTHER HERO you really would think that it’s a
new Future Islands song.

FRIPP & TOYAH (Sexy As Hell) Strike To #FreeBritney

8 March 2021

ROBERT FRIPP (best know as member of legendary prog-rock band King Crimson)
and his equally famous British wife TOYAH WILLCOX (8 top 40 hits and over more
than 20 LPs) continue their weekly Sunday lunch cover sessions. And it’s getting
better and better.

This time they want to set Britney Spears
free with her mega 2003 hit Toxic.

Robert is looking at Toyah – sexy as hell – as if he sees the classic
movie Clockwork Orange for the very first time. I love it, I love it!

Don’t miss the Britney message and
blooper in the end! JUST HILARIOUS!

I’m addicted to you
Don’t you know that you’re toxic?
And I love what you do
Don’t you know that you’re toxic?…

MONALISA TWINS With Striking BEATLES Cover – Here’s ‘NOWHERE MAN’

24 February 2021

The MonaLisa Twins – twin sisters and singer-songwriters Mona and Lisa
Wagner
– were born in Austria, but are currently based in the Liverpool area.

They’re pretty famous on YouTube for their video covers of Beatles classic and
versions of other 60s hits, many of which have been released on albums. Their
newest Fab Four cover is Nowhere Man. A poignant 1965 Lennon song about
many of us.

The Wagner sisters explain why they chose this one: “We like to focus on the things we
do have, we can control, we can change and all the good people we have in our lives. And to remember those that are no longer with us, too. We sadly lost Steve, a very special friend in October 2019, right before the madness set in. He was a huge Beatles fan who loved intricate harmonies as much as we do. That’s why we recorded this song for him.”

New Hype BLACK COUNTRY, NEW ROAD Covers MGMT – Time To Listen!

16 February 2021

To my ears, 2008 single TIME TO PRETEND still is the best thing
American electro pop eccentrics MGMT ever did. A gloriously
catchy fantasy tune about being a rock star.

New British hype BLACK COUNTRY, NEW ROAD launched their
highly praised art rock-jazz-pop debut LP For The First Time two
weeks ago. Just before the release, they shared their interpretation
of Time To Pretend. They slowed it down and turned it into a
stunning, melodramatic ballad.

Here’s their pretty WOW version…

I’m feelin’ rough, I’m feelin’ raw
I’m in the prime of my life
Let’s make some music, make some money
Find some models for wives
I’ll move to Paris, shoot some heroin and fuck with the stars
You man the island and the cocaine and the elegant cars

This is our decision to live fast and die young
We’ve got the vision, now let’s have some fun
Yeah, it’s overwhelming, but what else can we do?
Get jobs in offices and wake up for the morning commute?

8 February 2021

MILEY CYRUS played her first live show in a year with
her TikTok Tailgate pregame show performance in Tampa
Bay
before the Super Bowl 55.

At one point former face and voice Billy Idol of 70s punk Brits
Generation X took the stage and had a steamy White Wedding
(Idol’s massive 1982 hit) with Cyrus who overwhelmed poor Billy
with her high-powered act.

Watch and rock out

When WIDOWSPEAK Covers DIRE STRAITS You Get Magic

13 January 2021

Last August Brooklyn‘s daydreamers WIDOWSPEAK – singer Molly Hamilton and guitarist Robert Earl Thomas – released their highly acclaimed fifth LP Plum with a 4/5 review from AllMusic writing: “Plum finds them at their most immediate and compelling.”

And they start 2021 with a new 5-track EP, planned to go online on 22th January. Honeychurch, like the 17th-century tile on its cover, is a nod to E.M. Forster’s A Room
With A View
and was originally a working title for Plum.

All EP info here.

One of the tracks is a Dire Straits cover of their 40-year old song (released as a single
on 9 Jan 1981 – from the band’s third LP Making Movies) Romeo and Juliet . Thomas’ glimmering guitar glow and Hamilton’s sensuous voice make it sound as if they wrote
the humdinger themselves. Magic, just magic!

Have a listen
