GETDOWN SERVICES – English Daft Disco-Punk Groovers Turn It Up And Get Down On 2nd LP ‘MASSIVE CHAMPION’

20 August 2026

Band: GETDOWN SERVICES
Who: Wacky disco-rap-punk duo
from Bristol, UK

Album: MASSIVE CHAMPION.
Their sophomore one.

Press info: “An odyssey of anarchic joy, seditious wit and boundless energy, the LP finds Josh Law and Ben Sadler pushing deeper into the singular world they have been building for years, while opening up new emotional and lyrical ground. The record was written in green rooms, on long car journeys and in the gaps between relentless touring.”

Album artwork

NME: “The buzzy Minehead-via-Bristol party-starters shake off the ‘joke band’ label and
face up to doubt on nuanced album number two. Getdown Services are not Sleaford Mods
for the microbrew crowd or the Yard Act fit for a stag do, they are something of their own
and something to be taken quite seriously.

We could have done with a bit more of the party to beat the pity, but they’ve at least
delivered one of the unlikeliest real pleasures of a bleak 2026, so suck on that.”

TUTV: They go up, they get down. Up again. Down again. At first I was confused by the
by now pretty famous indie duo’s changing sonic moods breaking down the record’s
flow.

Lullabies, rock outs, moony mid-tempo reflections. One tune they put you in a soothing modus with a lullaby. The next tune they plug in their amps for a couple of pelvis-shaking firecrackers. And then back to some life-reflecting/watching thoughts, daily reveries, existentialist questions, and some depressing moments. Quite something else than
their non-stop groovy fiesta debut.

But I didn’t give up, as I felt some sort of connection anyway, and I kept on listening,
and it all started to make sense. This record’s emotional fluctuations, musically, vocally
and lyrically, became one full Getdown Services picture/experience that sticks seamlessly
in the end. I wonder if you will be affected to or not, people?

MAN/WOMAN/CHAINSAW – Wayward Brit Indies Have Bodacious Debut Album ‘CANNONBALL’ Out

19 August 2026

Credit M/W/C

Band: MAN/WOMAN/CHAINSAW
Who: Unadulterated indies
from London, UK.

Album: CANNONBALL.
Their debut. Buy here.

NME: “Arty South London upstarts evolve into an inescapable 12-legged beast on expansive album to make you dance, smile tremble and weep. Here’s a band for whom perfection is just around the corner as they fine-tune the engine to reach a cleaner and more regular lift-off, but for now enjoy one of the most accomplished debuts of the year and a surefire Mercury Prize 2027 nominee. This cannonball makes one hell of a splash.”

TUTV: Man/Woman/Chainsaw join the (new) generation of new Brit-post-punk artilleries that started sometime post Brex-shit, with innovative bands such as Black Midi (already gone), Black Country New Road, Squid, Ditz, Bdrmm and newcomers Modern Woman, Westside Cowboy, Mary In The Junkyard, and My New Band Believe.

They have one thing in common: looking for new musical angels, exciting ideas
and unconventional soundscapes, within the broad rock-pop-punk universe, without
being arty farty.

M/W/C does it now for the first time with this debut LP. Whimsical, chopped-up song structures, spine-tingling melodiousness, two perfervid vocalists, nightmarish stories, versatile violins and capricious orchestrations. Everything in place to score a bodacious firstborn. Have a bloodcurdling trip.

KEY TRACKS: Goddamm, LizardMan! / Nosedive / Flick Of The Wrist / The Thing / Still Angry

ECHO & THE BUNNYMEN Have Their 12th Album Out On September 18th – Info & Its 2 Anthemic Singles (thus far) Here

Photo by Turn Up The Volume

19 August 2026

Photo Turn Up The Volume – Leuven, Belgium

No expiration date for Liverpool‘s indestructible post-punk-pop rockers
ECHO & THE BUNNYMEN (one of my all-time fav bands, on record and
on stage), fronted by big mouth/songwriter Ian McCulloch.

On 18 September they will share their 13th LP with the world.
It’s their first in 12 years, titled APPLES FOR ISAAC. No idea who
that Isaac guy is. Order info here.

Album artwork

Press info: After years spent performing their immense catalog of classics to
audiences around the world, the Bunnymen have recorded an album that is as
bold as it is vulnerable, that perfectly captures the essence of what makes
the band so great.

All but one of the tracks features the late Blondie drummer
Clem Burke, who sadly passed away during its creation.

2 appetizers, thus far.

– BRUSSELS IS HAUNTED –

The song explores the ghosts and characters of the Belgian
capital haunted by World War 2. I’m from Belgium, Ian. What
do you actually mean here?

– THE LIGHT THAT SURROUNDS YOU –

McCulloh offers hope, redemption
and another anthemic gem.

KING GIZZARD & THE LIZARD WIZARD – Out Of The Blue The Hardest Working Band In The World Released Their 28 LP In 14 Years

17 August 2026

Credit: Maclay Heriot

I guess for the Australian psych-prog-rockers
KING GIZZARD & THE LIZARD WIZARD a day
counts 48 hours.

I must be something weird like that.

They just released their 28th LP in 14 years.
It’s named ALIEN METAL. Order info here.

And it’s quite a special record for the riff junks from down other, as
they have thrown their guitars through the window and surprise with
a full electronic one.

Stu Mackenzie (vocalist/guitarist): “We’ve never scrapped so much material
as we have for this album. Entire albums, entire universes that were formulated,
created, recorded, deleted and started again. The project was finally unlocked
during a late night jam session that went on for more than an hour with every
track evolving from the same source performance.”

They actually announced the album a couple of weeks ago, along
with its single Level 5, but no release date was communicated, and
last Friday it came falling out of the blue.

Billboard US: “Alien Metal is arguably the biggest swing in a catalog full of them,
as the sextet best known for wild, garage-meets-psych-rock ditched its guitars in favor
of a hulking Eurorack, a type of modular synthesizer developed in the ’90s that all of
its members could play simultaneously.”

TUTV: Back to the British 90s techno raves. Alien Metal resonates as if KG&TLW
locked themselves up for a couple of weeks playing Underworld, The Prodigy and
Leftfield
records on repeat.

Expect an incessant tsunami of hyperkinetic beats, mind-blowing electro
Krautrock madness, and deformed vocal flashes. Full blast forward without
breaks. Not one moment to have a much-needed breather. E-cstatic.

HOLY COVES – Welsh Indie Rockers Have Their Milestone Album ‘HIRAETH’ Out

14 Augustus 2026

Band: HOLY COVES
Who: Ardent Welsh indie outfit, fronted
by singer-songwriter Scott Marsden.

Album: HIRAETH
Welsh for ‘longing‘.
Their 4th.

Press info: ‘Hiraeth‘ is a brave offering, orchestrated by a band with a clear vision,
free from genre confines, pushing it to new levels. Scott Marsden’s songwriting is more personal than ever, delving into difficult topics of childhood trauma, addiction, recovery, love, loss, tragedy and death, which cuts deeper than ever before.”

Marsden: “We tried our best to lock ourselves away from the outside world. At times that felt impossible when life was living harder than it ever has before. I used writing as a way to process everything that was happening around me. The real world crept into the band room and into the songs we were writing together.

It was one of the hardest moments of my life, but at the same time it was very therapeutic.
The band showed up for me when I needed them the most. I can’t think of any better therapy
to losing your Mum than writing and recording a record. It gave the record so much more meaning, we put everything into this album, it was beautiful.

“This record means everything to me, Hiraeth is something I’ve been feeling for years as
an adult but didn’t really understand fully when I was younger, it’s hard to put into words exactly what it means, it’s more of a feeling. For me it’s in the mountains, the forests, the trees, the meadows, the rivers, the beaches and the sea. It’s in everything I see that’s beautiful, the echoes of what was once there before me, my ancestors, I feel it deeply.

TUTV: Hireath is a genuinely soul-stirring and brutally honest record.

Singer-songwriter/guitarist Scott Marsden recalls his past demons and finds comfort
in the beauty of his beloved Wales, its compelling history and the making of this new formidable album. He’s an emotive storyteller, blessed with a heartwarming voice that
fits his self-exploratory quest in every respect, spiritually and musically.

The songs are embedded in sonic captivatingness and sepia-colored melancholia. At its core, you get impassioned by the tracks’ rich and arresting melodies. Arousing guitar play makes its impressive mark all around without being dominant or getting in the way of the full euphonious picture. Holy Coves are a tremendously close-knit trio of emotionally engaged musicians.

The 8-and-a-half-minute bittersweet symphony Wich Way The Weather is the epic centrepiece of the LP where the band peaks with gripping intensity and orchestral
voltage, turning this staggering roller coaster jam into a truly stupendous opus. It’s surrounded organically by the 3 top-drawer singles (hear them below) and 5 equally powerful and spellbinding pieces.

This is unquestionably the band’s most coherent, engrossing, and complete work,
excelling on every level and showing the cathartic power of music, once again. Mind
you, their previous work is more than noteworthy, but Hiraeth‘s full-blown execution makes it a grand achievement to cherish for a long time.

Along with the new album by The Strokes and the new Tricky one
I played Hiraeth every single day (even more than once) for the
past 2 weeks. And many spins will follow.

One of the best indie guitar rock-pop albums of the
year. A milestone for the Welshmen. Hands down.

The 3 singles.

THE MARY WALLOPERS – Irish Folk Team Release Their 3rd LP ‘PADDYWACKERY’ On September 18th

11 August 2026

Band: THE MARY WALLOPERS
Who: Irish folk team based in Dundalk, County Louth. They’re well known for their opposition to far-right and anti-immigration politics, and their support for the liberation of Palestine.

Album: PADDYWHACKERY.
Their 3rd longplayer. Out on September 18th.
More info here.

Press info: “Paddywhackery finds them leaping forwards to create an album that sounds like it’s been made by a band with a tightness and a power that’s unparalleled in music right now.

Recorded in an intense two-week period in Liverpool with The Coral‘s frontman James Skelly and engineer Chris Taylor, Paddywhackery lets the band’s grand wildness shine through and allows their songs to flow out of the speakers with the kind of verve and potency that will make you – the listener – press play again, and again, and again.”

TMW: “It’s mainly about the fact that people would call us “paddywhackery” because we are
too Irish or whatever, but it’s all very fucking hip to be Irish the last couple of years, and maybe that’s performative too, it’s very sincere. If all you do is serious songs, it sterilises everything.

It becomes like there’s only one human emotion and its seriousness. People are terrified of being laughed at. If people are going to call us paddywhackery anyway, we might as well just call the album Paddywhackery. So its more of a “fuck you” than anything else. We want to spread like a virus and destroy anyone who thinks they are above The Mary Wallopers.”

Thus far, 3 singles to jump and bounce yourself nuts to.

THE DURUTTI COLUMN – Woolgatherer VINI REILLY Has New Ambient And Cinematic LP ‘RENASCENT’ Out

10 August 2026

📸 @micksteff64

Band: THE DURUTTI COLUMN

Who: Post-punk project of Manchester-born, experimental singer-songwriter-guitarist Vincent Gerard “Vini” Reilly (now 72). The band’s name refers to the Durruti Column,
an anarchist military unit in the Spanish Civil War, named after Buenaventura Durruti.

Album: RENASCENT.
His 28th.

Press info: “This album marks the long-awaited return of legendary
Manchester outfit The Durutti Column, their first new studio album
in over 15 years.

Around the guitar work of Vini Reilly, the album plays between sonic atmospherics and structure: warm ambient washes, piano, beats and guest vocal turns by a new generation (Caoilfhionn Rose). Both contemporary and otherworldly.”

MOJO magazine writes: “Listening to the music of Vini Reilly is a process of divine adjustment, a blissful adaptation to a unique sonic environment that feels simultaneously of the past and future but never the present.

Renascent combines luminescent indie pastoralism with ghostly flamenco shadows
and vocal samples that summon dancefloor ghosts of the Haçienda, but also push
forward into new realms with the juddering Afro-futurism of Your Shadow At Evening
and the Beckettian unravelling of Scammer.”

TUTV: This is a soothing, ambient Eno-like soundtrack for a melodramatic movie.
Reilly offers cinematic, dreamy soundscapes, rather than conventional song structures.
His singular, crystalline, finger-picking guitar playing style commands the aural tone throughout.

7 out of the 11 tracks are instrumentals. Caoilfhionn Rose sings on 3, Lucas Elliot
on one, and Reilly stirs with vulnerable vocals on the album’s best piece, the wondrous musing Scammer. Give Renascent a couple of spins, once you’re connected with The Durutti Column‘s imaginative and blue-sky world, you’ll enjoy a very gratifying record.
