Who The Fuck Is MICK JAGGER? A Man Who Was Knighted SIR 20 Years Ago Today

Back in 1975 Keef Richards was so fed up with ballerina Mick Jagger that he got
him a t-shirt made with the question Who The Fuck Is Mick Jagger printed on it.

It became a hot selling item for clothing manufacturer back then, but also when
Jagger was knighted SIR 20 years ago today in Queen’s Birthday Honours. The Queen
wasn’t present. Story goes that she didn’t like the fact that a rolling stone became a Sir.

C’mon Elizabeth it’s only rock and roll,
but we know you don’t like it…

It’s all over by now. Touring again this year…

JOHNNY MARR Plays SMITHS Classic For Foo Fighter TAYLOR HAWKINS

Last Sunday Johnny Marr played in Cardiff, Wales. To pay tribute to Taylor Hawkins,
the Foo Fighters’ drummer who passed away March 25 at the age of 50, he played
a classic he wrote with Morrissey for his former band The Smiths.

Before going into There Is A Light That Never Goes Out Marr said: “This is a song
that we’d like to dedicate to our friend Dave Grohl. Lots of love going out to you guys and
all the Foos family. We miss you Taylor, we won’t ever forget you. God bless you. This is
from all of us.”

What Turn Up The Volume watched/played between two coffees this morning

Between 1988 and 1993 Keith Richards wanted to do what Mick Jagger did
for years (and still does), fronting a band of his own. He called some friends
and recorded with them two studio LPs and one live one under the moniker
of X-PENSIVE WINOS

A couple of nights ago he played with his pals once more
at a benefit show at New York’s Beacon Theatre. Here’s the
three-song set.

British performance poet JOHN COOPER CLARKE
was born 73 years ago Salford, Lancashire.

Happy B. to JCC!

He enjoyed his heyday in the punk era, late 70s and early 80s,
collaborating with several punk bands now and then.

He fabricated several EPs and 6 studio LPs between 1978 and 1981
and released a covers album with former Stranglers frontman Hugh
Cornwell in 2016. The utterly cool weirdo is still going strong
(UK/Ireland tour this spring).

The iconic boys band THE MONKEES was all over the news last December
as their most (solo career-wise) successful member Michael Nesmith past
away. He was 78.

This day in 1967 the TV pop darlings scored their only No 1 hit in the UK
with their classic cracker I’M A BELIEVER, sung by drummer Mick Dolenz
(now the last surviving Monkee). written by Neil Diamond.

What Turn Up The Volume is playing/ watching in between two coffees

Today 51 years ago, on 7 January 1970, metal freaks BLACK SABBATH released their
2nd LP PARANOID. The longplayer was originally titled War Pigs (the opening track) but the record company made it change in the end, out of fear for criticism from supporters of the ongoing Vietnam War. Anyway, the album topped the UK Charts and peaked at #12 in the USA.
