31 May 2024 – From FRIDAY To SATURDAY With THE SPECIALS

Friday 31 May 2024

The weekend starts here with 1980 feel good tune
Friday Night, Saturday Morning by THE SPECIALS.

Out of bed at eight am
Out my head by half past ten
Out with mates and dates and friends
That’s what I do at weekends
I can’t talk and I can’t walk
But I know where I’m going to go
I’m going to watch my money go
At the Locarno, no

When my feet go through the door
I know what my right arm is for
Buy a drink and pull a chair
Up to the edge of the dance floor
Bouncers bouncing through the night
Trying to stop or start a fight
I sit and watch the flashing lights
Moving legs in footless tights

I go out on Friday night and
I come home on Saturday morning
I go out on Friday night and

I like to venture into town
I like to get a few drinks down
The floor gets packed, the bar gets full
I don’t like life when things get dull
The hen party have saved the night
And freed themselves from drunken stags
Having fun and dancing in
A circle round their leather bags

I go out on Friday night and
I come home on Saturday morning
I go out on Friday night and
I come home on Saturday morning

But two o’clock has come again
It’s time to leave this paradise
Hope the chip shop isn’t closed
Cause their pies are really nice
I’ll eat it in the taxi queue
Stand in someone else’s spew
Wish I had lipstick on my shirt
Instead of piss stains on my shoes

I go out on Friday night and
I come home on Saturday morning
I go out on Friday night and
I come home on Saturday morning

A salute to the late great frontman Terry Hall

27 May 2024 – LEAD BELLY On A Blue Monday

That first day of the week

Monday 27 May 2024

Infamous blues pioneer LEAD BELLY (1988-1949)
knew everything about blue(s) Mondays.

ON A MONDAY

Last Monday, I was arrested
On a Tuesday, I was locked up in jail
On a Wednesday, my trial was attested
On a Thursday, nobody wouldn’t go my bail

Almost done, yes I’m all, almost done
Yes I’m all, almost done
And I ain’t gonna bring them yellow women no pail

Take these stripes, stripes from around my shoulder
Take these chains, these chains from around my legs
Lord, these stripes, stripes sure don’t worry me
But these chains, chain’s is bound to kill me dead

Almost done, yes I’m all, almost done
Yes I’m all, almost done
And I ain’t gonna bring them yellow women no pail

On a Saturday, me and my baby went out walking
On a Sunday, she locked me out doors
On a Monday, we were sitting down and talking
On a Tuesday, she had pawned all of my clothes

11 May 2024 – Saturday With DAVID BOWIE

Saturday 11 May 2024

Let me put my arms around your head
(Dom do ah) Gee, it’s hot, let’s go to bed
Don’t forget to turn on the light
Don’t laugh babe, it’ll be alright
(Dom do ah) Pour me out another phone
(Dom do ah) I’ll ring and see if your friends are home
Perhaps the strange ones in the dome
Can lend us a book we can read up alone

And try to get it on like once before
When people stared in Jagger’s eyes and scored
Like the video films we saw

His name was always buddy (got got do ah aah aah)
And he’d shrug and ask to stay
She’d sigh like twig the wonder kid (got got do ah)
And turn her face away

She’s uncertain if she likes him (got got do ah aah aah)
But she knows she really loves him
It’s a crash course for the ravers (got got do ah)
It’s a drive-in Saturday

Jung the foreman prayed at work (dom do ah)
Neither hands nor limbs would burst
It’s hard enough to keep formation with this fall out saturation
cursing at the astronette
(Dom do ah) who stands in steel by his cabinet
He’s crashing out with Sylvian
The bureau supply for aging men
With snorting head he gazes to the shore
Once had raised a sea that raged no more
Like the video films we saw

His name was always buddy (got got do ah aah aah)
And he’d shrug and ask to stay
She’d sigh like twig the wonder kid (got got do ah)
And turn her face away

She’s uncertain if she likes him (got got do ah aah aah)
But she knows she really loves him
It’s a crash course for the ravers (got got do ah)
It’s a drive-in Saturday

His name was always buddy (got got do ah aah aah)
And he’d shrug and ask to stay
She’d sigh like twig the wonder kid (got got do ah)
And turn her face away

She’s uncertain if she likes him (got got do ah aah aah)
But she knows she really loves him
It’s a crash course for the ravers (got got do ah)
It’s a drive-in Saturday, yeah, yeah

It’s a, it’s a, it’s a drive in Saturday (It’s a drive-in Saturday)
It’s a, it’s a, it’s a, yes sir, yes sir, yes sir, yes sir, yes sir,
Yes sir
