DEPECHE MODE On The Telly With New Single ‘GHOSTS AGAIN’ And Their Golden Oldie’PERSONAL JESUS’

25 February 2023

Dark-synth-pop-wave giants DEPECHE MODE are back in the spotlight
after the passing of their co-band-founder and keyboardist Andy Fletcher
who passed away last year in May following an aortic dissection, only 60.

Next month – 24 March – the duo share their new, 15th longplayer
named MEMENTO MORI and will embark on a massive world tour.

So it’s promotion time now. Last Thursday DM were on The Late Show
with Stephen Colbert
for a special edition in the Ed Sullivan Theatre on
Broadway. They performed new single Ghosts Again and imperishable
1990 golden oldie Personal Jesus.

David Gahan‘s performance was highly passionate and
intense and caused a standing ovation by the audience.

On The Telly – 73 Million Viewers For THE BEATLES This Day In 1964

9 February 2023

This day in 1964, THE BEATLES made their first of several appearances
on The Ed Sullivan Show, one of the most-watched TV variety shows ever
in America.

The immortal Liverpool heroes played 5 songs, including
their then No.1 hit I WANNA HOLD YOUR HAND.

The show received over 50,000 applications for the 728 studio seats.
Richard Nixon’s daughters and Olympic gold medalist Terry McDermott
were among the lucky ones to see The Beatles so closely.

A record-breaking 73 million people saw the live performance.
It was Sullivan‘s top rating for the first time in seven years.

IGGY POP And His LOSERS Go FRENZY On American TV

Last Friday, the ultimate Caesar of Punk IGGY POP unleashed
his 19th solo LP, named EVERY LOSER. A hold/cold affair for
Turn Up The Volume‘s ears (review here).

To give his new record a kick up the ass Pop does some promo.
Yesterday, he set the Jimmy Kimmel Live show on fire with the most
FRENZY
-ied track on the longplayer.

Jimmy Kimmel announced his musical guests as Iggy Pop and The Losers.
Famous losers that is: Guns N’ Roses bassist Duff McKagan, Red Hot Chili Peppers
drummer Chad Smith, former RHCP’s guitarist Josh Klinghoffer and Andrew Watt.

At 75 the Stoogefather is still full of frenzy.
The audience agreed and went bonkers.

Pitbull Punks IDLES Go Mental On Amercian TV Show

It’s already 2 years since Bristol punks and, yes, first-time Grammy nominees IDLES unleashed their 4th swell album CRAWLER followed by a long post-lockdown tour.

And their promo work for the LP isn’t done yet. Yesterday they set The Tonight Show Starring Jim Fallon on fire with a steamed-up rendition of cannonball CRAWL from that longplayer.

Watch pitbull Joe Talbot – with mustache now – go mental.

LCD SOUNDSYSTEM Does His ‘NEW BODY RHUMBA’ On TV

James Murphy and his musical vehicle
LCD SOUNDSYTEM
is still alive and kicking.

As part of the soundtrack of the movie White Noise based on the 1985
novel by American author Don DeLillo he has a new track out called
NEW BODY RHUMBA.

It’s pure LCDSoundsytem. A familiar, hypnotic and speed-up steamer propelled
by a steady bass riff, guitars popping up now and then and Murphy singing
with his characteristic, nervous voice.

ANGEL OLSEN Played Masterly Version Of Her Country Tearjerker ‘ALL THE GOOD TIMES’ On TV

Reveries for the laziest day of the week

The angel that sings gorgeous, sounds gorgeous, and looks gorgeous
released her new, heart-and-soul-and-mind chilling LP Big Time last June.

Yesterday night she went on The Tonight Show where she played, with her
big time band, that sublime country tearjerker ALL THE GOOD TIMES (best
ballad of the year so far, to my ears).

And Olsen also surprised when she thanked, midway during the song, the audience
and host Jimmy Fallon, and she wished co-host Demi Lovato a happy birthday. Lovely.

Dim the lights, lit a candle,
and enjoy this gorgeous angel.

COURTNEY BARNETT On American TV

Australian songstress COURTNEY BARNETT released her,
critically acclaimed, third LP Things Take Time, Take Time
last year.

One of the tracks is a simple ditty, titled BEFORE YOU GOTTA GO
It’s so sickly sticky that I played it about a hundred times so far.

This week she played it live on the American TV Show ‘CBS Saturday Sessions’

Sing along, whistle along, hum along…

“Before you gotta go, I wanted you
to know, you’re always on my mind.”
