Musical wizard and Beach Boys mastermind BRIAN WILSON passed away last month,
aged 82. He was a genius when it came to writing, arranging and producing pure pop pearls with Good Vibrations as one of the best, released in 1966.

Wilson in 2006 in Uncut Magazine: “It took six weeks to record, in five different studios.
I wrote out each musician’s part on music paper then they all played it together. I found
I could work out each part without it being too difficult. It did get tedious, though. The musicians understood it all more or less straight away. ”

14 July 1984 – PINK FLOYD’s Movie ‘THE WALL’ Premiered In London

PINK FLOYD’s psychological, musical, surrealist drama film, named THE WALL,
and directed by Alan Parker premiered in London on 14 July 1984, today 41 years
ago.

David Gilmour, Roger Waters, and Nick Mason attended the event, alongside Pete Townshend, Sting, and Queen’s Roger Taylor, and many other celebs. The movie, which starred musician Bob Geldof (The Boomtown Rats, blended live-action with animation,
and was based on Pink Floyd’s hit 1979 LP of the same name. It became a box office success on both sides of the Atlantic.

The first edition of the Atlanta International Pop Festival was held at the Atlanta International Raceway in Hampton, Georgia, twenty miles south of Atlanta, on the July Fourth weekend, 1969, today 56 years ago, more than a month before Woodstock.

Crowd numbers estimates ranged from the high tens of thousands to
as high as 150,000, with few problems reported other than those related
to the hot weather.

Band: ALREADY DEAD
Who: Over the past three, very loud years, AD have often been described as a “sampler platter of punk.” The Massachusetts band has dabbled in various strains of the genre, all while brashly tackling a spectrum of social issues and human causes, since first crashing the scene in 2022.

From ska-punk, activist folk, and hip-hop crossovers to rallying for workers’ rights and calling out the absurd cost of living, the constantly evolving project has continued to embrace the unexpected – and take a sledgehammer to expectations.

So far, they have released 2 albums.
My Collar Is Blue (2022) and
Something Like A War (2024).

NEW EP: I THINK IT’S TIME TO LEAVE…

Dan Cummings (frontman): “These were the first batch of songs we had after
‘Something Like a War’ and we were really happy with them. All five felt pretty
cohesive together, and it’s five songs in 10 minutes. All killer, no bullshit. It felt
like the right move after the long process of making an album.”

new EP is one you can split concrete with. It’s a riot-punk-gun explosion of

five wild-and-woolly knockouts. Except for closing track Nothing Wrong all songs have a Ramones playtime. All in all a sonic blitzkrieg with 5 crushing torpedos in 10 minutes and 44 seconds. If you think it’s time to leave, you’re wrong again. It’s time to pogo yourself
into oblivion. Right here and now. Gabba gabba hey.

OASIS – 30th Anniversary Deluxe Edition Of ‘(WHAT’S THE STORY) MORNING GLORY’ In October

Manchester iconic rock zealots start their big
reunion tour tomorrow Friday in Cardiff, Wales.

And their record label just announced a 30th anniversary deluxe edition of their breakthrough, blockbuster album (WHAT’S THE STORY) MORNING GLORY with
its gigantic hits Wonderwall and Don’t Look Back In Anger. It was released on
2 October 1995. It sold 22 million copies worldwide.

The 3CD set issued back in 2014 included B-sides, demos, live material and so on. This new reissue uses the same remaster as 12 years ago but the bonus material is confined to new ‘unplugged’ versions of five tracks: ‘Cast No Shadow’, ‘Morning Glory’, ‘Wonderwall’, ‘Acquiesce’ and ‘Champagne Supernova’. The deluxe edition also comes in 3 LPs.

These new unplugged versions were produced and mixed by Noel Gallagher and Callum Marinho from the original master recordings at Noel’s studio, Lone Star Sound, in London.

The deluxe reissue will be available from 3rd October on.

SCHØØL – French Shoegaze Indies With Britpop Swagger Have Their Debut Album Out In September

Who: Conceived in Paris in the fall of 2023. They united
to form the band they dreamed of as teenagers, inspired
by 90s shoegaze bands.

THE FARM – Liverpool’s Sing Along Veterans Back With New Album ‘LET THE MUSIC (TAKE CONTROL)’

Liverpool‘s Britpop pioneers THE FARM had a triumphant run between 1983 and
1996 with their No. 1 UK debut LP Spartacus from 1991 – including the irresistibly
catchy unity-chant All Together Now, followed by Love See No Colour a year later
and Hullabaloo in 1994.

In 1996 they called it a day, but returned in 2004 for tons of reunion concerts.
Lately they found their songwriting creativity again, which resulted in a new LP,
titled LET THE MUSIC (TAKE CONTROL) that came out today.

to repeated cover versions and timely re-issues of their greatest hit singles, plus
decades of well-publicised activism, The Farm’s last album was 1994’s US-only
release of Hullabaloo.
